  1. I've got a great "BOSS" 3 pocket windshield bag on my RSTD, love it. But I would like to know, what 3 pocket bag members are using on their RSVs? Web links would be good for pics and price. I have a wide F4 windshield without a vent. But I would say anything that fits stock will fit the same. Thanks, Mike G in SC
  2. Ok, today I installed my Yamaha brand trunk rack. It went well. I also have a Yamaha brand bag for it. So I went and placed it on the rack and the velco straps for the front part of the bag do not line up properly with the bars on the rack. Anyone have this problem? The rear velco straps line up just right. Thanks Geoff
  3. One of my saddle bag rail bolts loosened up, and the bolt and end cap are missing-in-action. Any chance somebody out there has these parts on the shelf from a rail that that got wrecked in a drop, or who knows what happened??? Pictured below are the 2 pieces I'm missing, the bolt and the cap that is ahead of the saddle bag guard. The bolt goes thru the cap and the guard, and into the front end of the bag rail. 2006 RSV, by the way. Thanks for looking. Larry http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w317/larrykir/Venture%20Saddle%20Bag%20Rail%20Parts/100_2777.jpg http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w317/larrykir/Venture%20Saddle%20Bag%20Rail%20Parts/100_2778.jpg
  4. Some of you may have read my thread about the hit and run Saturday. Now it appears I'm going to need a new fender. If I could save enough to cover the deductable I might try to make the repairs myself. Does anyone know how big of a job to replace the rear fender, right saddle bag support and trunk bucket? What all has to be disassembled? Here are photos of the parts that need to be replaced. www.traynorphoto.com/rockytop Thanks, Dennis
  5. Hi group, Dunno about everyone else but been chasing missing bolts, and having problems with the hex / allen key heads stripping on my 03 Venture. While stored in my garage for our great Canadian winter, I noticed both sides saddle bag rail's front bolts missing. Anyone know the part number or a suitable replacement? Also noticed 2 small leaks of coolant under the cooling fins that cover the cylinders on the left side. Took it to a shop who removed them and told me it was the coolant plugs - a quick fix. I got the bike put away just before the snow flew and finally picked up the replacement plugs, figuring I would replace all 4. Well, I did 3. Why? Because the shop who discovered the leaky plugs must have stripped the head on 1 of the 3 bolts. Frustrated that every time I go to do something on the bike, there is always 1 allen/hex headed bolt that is either seized or stripped. I removed the backrest due to getting sore knees from the forward leaning position I was in, despite adjusting it all I could....and had 1 seized bolt, that I stripped the head from trying to remove. Tried removing the saddlebags to switch back to stock exhaust from Barons Custom Bag Slash....stripped 1 bolt each bag. Got the quick release ones (Butlers?). Frustrating.
  6. I'm trying to install a brake speedbleeder on the rear of my 89 VR. I've removed the 2 side bolts, the 2 bottom bolts. the 3 reflector nuts and the 3 bottom screws for the lower chrome piece. The Bag is loose but can't seem to wiggle it out. The center reflector screw is giving me some challenges. What is there left for me to do? Also the bottom, front there is a metal bracket revitted to the floor can someone tell me what that is for?
  7. Lesson 1 1. Go to the grocery store. 2. Arrange to have your salary paid directly to their head office. 3. Go home. 4. Pick up the paper. 5. Read it for the last time. Lesson 2 Before you finally go ahead and have children, find a couple who already are parents and berate them about their... 1. Methods of discipline. 2. Lack of patience. 3. Appallingly low tolerance levels. 4. Allowing their children to run wild. 5. Suggest ways in which they might improve their child's breastfeeding, sleep habits, toilet training, table manners, and overall behavior. Enjoy it because it will be the last time in your life you will have all the answers. Lesson 3 A really good way to discover how the nights might feel... 1. Get home from work and immediately begin walking around the living room from 5PM to 10PM carrying a wet bag weighing approximately 8-12 pounds, with a radio turned to static (or some other obnoxious sound) playing loudly. (Eat cold food with one hand for dinner) 2. At 10PM, put the bag gently down, set the alarm for midnight, and go to sleep. 3. Get up at 12 and walk around the living room again, with the bag, until 1AM. 4. Set the alarm for 3AM. 5. As you can't get back to sleep, get up at 2AM and make a drink and watch an infomercial. 6. Go to bed at 2:45AM. 7. Get up at 3AM when the alarm goes off. 8. Sing songs quietly in the dark until 4AM. 9. Get up. Make breakfast. Get ready for work and go to work (work hard and be productive) Repeat steps 1-9 each night. Keep this up for 3-5 years. Look cheerful and together. Lesson 4 Can you stand the mess children make? T o find out... 1. Smear peanut butter onto the sofa and jam onto the curtains. 2. Hide a piece of raw chicken behind the stereo and leave it there all summer. 3. Stick your fingers in the flower bed. 4. Then rub them on the clean walls. 5. Take your favorite book, photo album, etc. Wreck it. 6. Spill milk on your new pillows. Cover the stains with crayons. How does that look? Lesson 5 Dressing small children is not as easy as it seems. 1. Buy an octopus and a small bag made out of loose mesh. 2. Attempt to put the octopus into the bag so that none of the arms hang out. Time allowed for this - all morning. Lesson 6 Forget the BMW and buy a mini-van. And don't think that you can leave it out in the driveway spotless and shining. Family cars don't look like that. 1. Buy a chocolate ice cream cone and put it in the glove compartment. Leave it there. 2. Get a dime. Stick it in the CD player. 3. Take a family size package of chocolate cookies. Mash them into the back seat. Sprinkle cheerios all over the floor, then smash them with your foot. 4. Run a garden rake along both sides of the car. Lesson 7 Go to the local grocery store. Take with you the closest thing you can find to a pre-school child. (A full-grown goat is an excellent choice). If you intend to have more than one child, then definitely take more than one goat. Buy your week's groceries without letting the goats out of your sight. Pay for everything the goat eats or destroys. Until you can easily accomplish this, do not even contemplate having children. Lesson 8 1. Hollow out a melon. 2. Make a small hole in the side. 3. Suspend it from the ceiling and swing it from side to side. 4. Now get a bowl of soggy Cheerios and attempt to spoon them into the swaying melon by pretending to be an airplane. 5. Continue until half the Cheerios are gone. 6. Tip half into your lap. The other half, just throw up in the air. You are now ready to feed a nine- month-old baby. Lesson 9 Learn the names of every character from Sesame Street , Barney, Disney, the Teletubbies, and Pokemon. Watch nothing else on TV but PBS, the Disney channel or Noggin for at least five years. (I know, you're thinking What's 'Noggin'?) Exactly the point. Lesson 10 Make a recording of Fran Drescher saying 'mommy' repeatedly. (Important: no more than a four second delay between each 'mommy'; occasional crescendo to the level of a supersonic jet is required). Play this tape in your car everywhere you go for the next four years. You are now ready to take a long trip with a toddler. Lesson 11 Start talking to an adult of your choice. Have someone else continually tug on your skirt hem, shirt- sleeve, or elbow while playing the 'mommy' tape made from Lesson 10 above. You are now ready to have a conversation with an adult while there is a child in the room. This is all very tongue in cheek; anyone who is parent will say 'it's all worth it!' Share it with your friends, both those who do and don't have kids. I guarantee they'll get a chuckle out of it. Remember, a sense of humor is one of the most important things you'll need when you become a parent!
  8. While wandering thru websites looking stuff today I stumbled on a nice looking RSTD with some road rash on it. Its a write off from insurance but if someone could buy it cheap enough it might be worth while. I know the side bag and the tank damage is pricey to buy new, but a guy might be able to find used. Does anyone know If this one of our members old machines? http://www.crankyape.com/default.asp?pg=DispSingleItem&ItemNumber=24503 Brian

    Bag Rails

There are a few sellers on ebay that have are selling bag rails, and they can be had for 100.00 including shipping.. So my question is what is a good price for them? I kind of doubt if they are OEM for this price and they don't claim to be either but hey if they look good and mount ok who would know..
  10. Any recommendations on a good tank bag for an 89 VR? Also for a good rear passenger bag. Like to know what kind of features to look for and why.
  11. Need a fast answer... What is a good price for 2nd Gen Saddle bag rails ???? NEW Thanks for any input
  12. Any of you guys out there ever fitted a tank bag to your mount? Having traded my Pan European in for my 2000 RSV I was left with a brand new Baglux bag but no way of getting a tank bag cover for it to fit on (Baglux don't make one for an RSV). I've tried to see if anything else in the Baglux range might fit ie Kawa, Suzi etc but no luck. Any ideas?
  13. I just received an e mail from this ebay seller that I bought a tail bag from a couple of years ago (Motopak Luggage Roll). They have a new web site and have a 35% discount on a bunch of items. I can only speak for the Motopak roll bag and it is quality gear! Keith http://redlinemotoparts.com/
  14. I want to put one on my first Gen. Don't want a leather bag! Don't want to spend a fortune either. What do you have....any with pics?
  15. So I decided to spend the next week going over the bike changing oil etc. in preparation for Biketoberfest (I hate it when friends use the week of the event to get their maintenance done) Today I went over 4800 miles and decided to start with the saddlebags. I had read that the screws holding the hinges on need to be checked for looseness. I never really looked close at where those screws are. Good thing Yamaha put them behind the fabric. Out of the 8 screws only one was loose, but I took all of the screws out that were going into metal and put a dab of blue loctite on them. Anyway as others have said here before, check your hinges.
  16. Fall is upon us, and with it getting darker earlier and with our white tail friends getting ready to run amok, I added a few very inexpensive safety items that I picked up at Wally World today. The LED lights are mounted on both right and left side saddle bag rails and can be solid or blinking for additional visibility from the sides at night. They take 2 AAA batteries each and will run for 400- 500 hours continuous before needing new batts. They cost $8.95 each. I took the bike out for a quick ride tonight, and man can you be seen! The chrome deer whistle is mounted under the right side bag to catch the max amount of wind, and is barely visible, and is also removable by sliding it off the stick-on holder. They came 2 to a package for $7.95, so I mounted the other one under the right side foot pad on the wife's Harley. For that price, I'll probably get two more for the left side of each bike. Can't be too careful this time of year.
  17. No changes, just more chrome...and more $$$$$ http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/products/products.php?model=3589&class=1&group=M|&LANG=en Lunch bag let down! gunk:stirthepot:
  18. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Utopia-driver-backrest-/280551056609?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories Thought this might be great deal for somebody. Trying to find a 86 - 93 one but when I'm going any distance I have my bag back there and don't really need it.
  19. Was there ever any type of soft bag designed to fit inside the hard side bags? Does anyone use something like this? If so what do you use?
  20. Help! I can't get one saddle bag open on my 07 RSV. I push the button and it doesn't feel like it is doing anything. Do you know of any way to get the dang thing open? I may not care so much except my wife's purse is in there! Thanks for any advice!
  21. The bag liners donated for St.Jude auctions was won by Bruce Miller aka Bruce47. Thanks to all that bid and Congratulations Bruce!!! :clap2::clap2:
  22. Does anyone have a picture of their Yamaha trunk rack and Yamaha bag mounted that they could post? I was also wondering how well the velcro straps line up with the rack? Thanks in advance.

I have a bag of chrome you wanted:banana:
  24. I asked this at maint day of muffin man (think thats right) but I didn't have a pen. Was curious what was in your tool bag when you traveled. I am not a competent mechanic, but I still like the idea of having the tools if I get stuck so that if a competent person came by that wanted to help would have the tools. Thanks folks. Bob
  25. I had a spill a few weeks ago and I'm looking for a right side saddle bag hinge emblem with "Midnight Venture" on it. I know a few years ago someone was making custom inserts......soooooo does anyone have one kicking around they don't need? Thanks Keith
