  1. Darn, I just saw this answer back to me on the bolt. I do not know the length but will take my right one out tomorrow and check. If you still have it let me know what you want. I am also trying to figure out how to attach a drink holder and I see Kuryakyn has one that mounts under these bolts. But I will check mine out and let you know. Top looks right. Thanks
  2. I have not checked my '89 for a cable upgrade but I bet I need it. I would want one too.
  3. This is a good read for me. All my past VRs had this problem and my now '89 is the same. Guess I need to start looking for a starter that fits it. Not sure how hard it is to change out. but I hate that not wanting to start after getting gas and crossing fingers it will spin over.
  4. I found this thread that is not too old yet instead of starting a new one on windshields. My'89VR came with what looks like the same one from Precision Plastic Products. It works well, except it is much taller than I am used to on my previous ones. If rain or fog hits me I am blind. I like to be able to raise up taller and still look over the top when needed or even most of the time for the longer distances. This one also is in need of clearing up. It is supposed to be lexan which I prefer over the acrylics. I have hit big birds on my previous ones that came on the VRs I had and not a scratch or crack. I have one small crack in mine as well. So cutting it down not too bad I see online. What about polishing to clear up? I have read where some do this. But then the hardening is gone. thoughts or do I just find a new one but I also want the newer wider versions as well. thanks.
  5. I am not sure which ones you are wanting to see. Here is my '89 VR.
  6. Thanks a lot and I appreciate the photo with the lights. Mine is an '89 White. I am removing my black vent panels and vent frame to expose the engine more. I see mods done to yours exposing a lot more. I will keep all my fairing. I am using blue as the regular color to offset all the red I have. None shining out, just to accent the engine and highlight the bike edges etc. I am wanting to shine into the front wheel if I can. Not sure where to mount for those. I like the under rear trunk shining on the side bags. I assume two lights on each side for the engine. I have heard some accent the radiator but I have not looked at that yet to decide. I am using the Kuryakyn Lizards. Still have to get switch for it to to mount with others. Much appreciated for the ideas.
  7. Being a pro gun person and involvement in several groups such as IDPA competition and NRA safety officer, may I suggest a few sites to review? One is a Texas group with heavy legal support of persons in the NRA and other groups. It is the Texas CHL Forum obviously by the name strong in the discussions of Conceal Handgun License issues but also many other main topic threads covering selection and uses. My interest is in carrying while riding so it does have a topic of interest for those of us who do carry and ride.... ah at the same time. As noted here though, like fruit which is your favorite. My standard is 9mm and 45acp for both carry and competition. Many flavors of each fruit too from the plastic guns in double stack to the ole favorite 1911. I use and carry both types in both flavors. My recommendation is finding a gun range where they rent and try out several and with someone who can give information of differences and reasons to help narrow your seleciton to fit your needs.
  8. OK, got the bike back last week with a new clutch and ready to start adding the Lizard Lights which I know I will have to add an additional pack. But before I do, I want to put the first set on to see what else to buy and add. I know I will need extra wires to reach to the back etc. Taking out the panel vents to show the engine. Anyone have pics of their 83-93 Ventures showing where they put their lights? Curious about the right way to do the front wheel. thanks
  9. thanks guys and you are absolutely right, there is not any real force needed to hold the covers on. I have a paper towel under it right now so it fits snug and works fine. I also like the helmet holder idea and would like to see that too. Still waiting for my all important call to come and get her.
  10. thanks and when I get the bike back, (OH PLEASE BY FRIDAY) I will do that. I owe a picture of my upper brake light to another person. My bike guy is an ex Yamaha specialist for the VRs who now works at a Kawasaki shop so I don't get top speed. But all the Yamaha shop repairmen here in Houston all take their old bikes to him because he is so good on them. The won't work on my VR and all send me to this one guy. He does great work though. So I will show the cover. He told me my bike is covered with Unobtainium parts so I have to be careful not to lose most or damage them.
  11. OK, I have the chrome covers that go over my brake and clutch reservoir. My brake cover bolt is missing. It turns out to be a left hand thread and I think about 7mm. So I need one and I don't care if it is chromed or not, but shop guy is having a hard time finding one. Anyone have a good place to go check? thanks
  12. thanks and actually this is my 4th VR and they all had the same issue so it is ME that has the issue I guess. they just don't move outward or pivot as far as I would like to see. Never seems to adjust out enough. So have been hoping there are replacements or other ways to deal with it. Then my original mirrors can be spare parts should I ever need one. thanks.
  13. Same here on bell and t-shirt. Just go in my patch and decal and have the flag. Now to get proper flag poles or way to hold onto bottom of antenna.
  14. Not to Hijack the goal of this thread but I too would like to change out my left mirror on my '89 VR. All my past VRs had the same problem, the left mirror just does not adjust out enough. Right side is fine. so looking for mirror upgrade replacements. Plus that would give me a set of replacements when my BAD drop comes... thanks
  15. WOW, that horn cover switch plate looks interesting for the garage door or similar need. giving me more ideas. I think I need to rummage around the Radio Shack or my local electronics computer parts house. thanks. Gary
  16. Squidley, thanks and may do that after I get her back. Hope this week. Have not looked at the Kuryakyn to see the size. I have seen others as well. The homemade unit Snaggletooth listed was interesting too. I will have to look at the switches mounted there now. There is room for another switch but even the two I have are on part of the plastic rib support on that black fill in area around the head. I may look at doing a similar homemade unit mounted over that area. Have to do some looking. Thanks for all the ideas and help. Now to get her back and hope the shoulder is well enough to handle it. 6 weeks out from surgery and doing well but I know it is still a little weak.
  17. OK, I have light bars in the back of my 89VR and a set of fog lights on the lower crash bars. Each has a lighted rocker switch. Installed I am assuming originally in '89. They are getting corroded. I am adding new LED accent lights. So I need to put in another switch. I was thinking of replacing the two existing switches when I add the third so they all match. I have seen for new bikes master and cluth cylinder covers with built in switch assemblies from a few places. Has anyone used these on the VRs? Otherwise, looking for a good replacement switch for the ones I have. One issue is they are mounted now on the right side plastic under the handlebars like many are done. Round holes and new switches are square. Not wanting to do a lot of removal cutting etc. If needed then so be it but looking to learn from someone who has already been down this road. thanks.
  18. Would you by chance have an extra audio cable for the head phones that plugs in to the system and come out for the helmet connection? I am trying to get a SENA 10 connected for my bluetooth system and the pins in my cable won't stay connected. I have to twist mine so suspecting bad plug pins. thanks Gary
  19. thanks I will look but I have not seen that name in our area here in the Houston. I will take the other bolt into my local Home Depot or Lowes etc and find something that fits. Hope my mechanic has one I get use. He has one I think, just not chrome. thanks. Gary
  20. I just noticed my '89 VR is missing one of the bolts that holds the chrome covers over my brake reservour. Not sure of the thread size on that and could just go to the hardware store but would like a true chrome replacement. Anyone know the screw size and if I can find one somewhere? thanks. Gary
  21. I too am interested in this. One of my complaints has always been the left mirror on my last 3 VRs and now still my 4th one, the 89 VR. It just does not adjust out enough. Are there any replacements for these without doing a lot of fairing work to get it attached and looking nice? Thanks. Gary
  22. Squidly I hope weather is good and it is a great time. Wish I could get away to meet everyone, perhaps one day I can ride up your way and we can meet. I have too many guests coming in that weekend and commitments I have already that weekend. But we will meet up sometime I am sure. Have fun! Gary
  23. OK, got my bike back from the shop for some maintenance and worked on the SM10 with my '89VR. It works great but still the plug issue remains. I suspect the plug on my 24 year old VR is not in great shape on the inside. Where can I find a new cable that you plug into for headsets that plugs into the audio system? I would like to change my out. Other wise the SENA system works great with my phone, switches to phone and cuts out bike radio like it should. Audio level could be a bit higher. As for the CB, I need to find someone around here with a CB and try mine out. thanks. Gary
