  1. I wouldn't buy a Shim Kit. You never will get use out of at least half the Shims in such a Kit. Mostly you'll need 260, 265 for the EX and 280, 275, 270 for the IN Valves. The 280/275 are common and mostly come out of the Factory Settings and pile up over several Settings and 260, 265 and 270 are running low. So my Advice would be: buy 1 with 250, 3 with 255, 6 with 260, 8 with 265, 4 x 270, 4x275, 2x 280, 1x285, 1x290. That should cover all you need for one Motor and you will have some left over for the next Time. Or you check the Clearances on all Valves, take those out which need replacement, count out the interchangeable and order the missing Remainders. Might take Week until you can finish the Job, though.
  2. Oh sorry, i messed this up. Dodge is a Chrysler Brand, not a GM ... but i'd buy a Charger anyway i'd afford one.
  3. Charger SRT-8, but that's just me. I like the "stealth" Sedan Look and most of what's underneath the Hood. Or a Viper SRT-10.
  4. I'm sorry Dan, but i wasn't aware that the '09 VMAX have been sold in different Colors ?
  5. I figure this means People have too much Nails in Minnesota and no loose Bolts in Washington ??:crackup:
  6. Don't try that at Home ?? Pahhh .... This Folks should take a Journey throughout Europe's Streetfighter Scene and over think their Words. I got a good Laugh out of the Obstacles they had to solve, just because i already knew this before. If they had asked some knowing Guys from the Internet, they sure would have told them before. They made the wrong Decision in keeping the Vmax Heads. They sure would made it easier when they use RS Heads and modified the Valves. Anyway, it's a good Read and even tough i personally don't like the Style of the Bike, i admire the Passion which led to a fine Bike.
  7. This is somewhat normal Behaviour, but only to a Point. I'd say live with it and let the Dealer bleed the Clutch Line when you taking the Bike in for 1st Service.
  8. I'd say you can do that. Maybe you can get the Carb Cleaner to assist you ? Just read the whole Process in the Shop Manual once or twice or even tripple before you get a Head Start. It's not an easy Job, because the Flywheel tends to stick on the Crank and getting this undone is the main Problem. You will need a 32mm flat Box Wrench to hold on the Flywhel while maintaining Pressure to the Center Bolt of the Puller. Just make sure you have all the Parts at Hand, including both Gaskets and a Sealer for the rubber Grommet Area of the Stator Wires. For a first Timer, i'd expect about 3 Hours Work Time, Beer and Smoke Breaks not included.
  9. Do you mean Novice as "can't tell a inch Wrench from metric Socket" or, I've done work on my old Cars, but none on a Motorcycle as of yet ?
  10. Blasphemy !!! Not even the worst Beer in the World is worth to be spilled.
  11. Firing Order is 1-3-2-4. Let this thing rev, get a Tach and don't run it under 3500. These Motors actually love to run.
  12. You're probably right on that I've test ridden some of the, but i can't get over the opposing V. I've sat on a LT and my mind was telling the beginning of the the old Chris the Burke Song .. "A Spaceman came travelling .... " :D Seriously, congrats on the new Ride and i hope you like it in the long Shot. It's too much off a Spaceship for me. V4 still rules, ever will !!
  13. Yesterday, for the first time, I noticed a sound like the starter was slow to turn (like a weak battery) and then it almost immediately seemed to disengage wtih a clunking sound. Normally, my new 88VR starts like a dream. This only happened immediately after I stopped from a high speed run. I tried it again immediately after another run with the same result. If I let the bike stand for a short while, starting returns to normal. Is this more likely to be week battery and/or dirty connections or undersized battery cables? I checked out the connections and they appear clean. I have followed the current thread about replacement battery cables and I was thinking of asking to be put on the list for these cables. Any comments? Evan If the Starter is weak when hot, most likely a bad Ground inside the Starter is the Culprit. Here the Story and a Description to cure that. http://members.chello.nl/c.cornwall/Startmotor/startmotor.htm This is about a Vmax Starter, but Venture Starter Motors are the very same. I disagree here with George. The 72th Wheel has to be replace also. The Surface Area where the Roller run onto, are Part of the Clutch and they are damaged when the Clutch is clunking. One could probably put the Wheel on a round Grinding Machine and grind some Material off until the Surface is perfect again. but who has such a Grinding Machine or a Buddy with one ? But when you insert the new Rollers into the Clutch Assembly, you place them on a uneven Surface with flat Spots, and they soon will be damaged again. Next Thing is, you gotta consider, the Flywheel is turning all Time(who would have thought that) and the 72th Wheel is in stand still. Which means, the Roller move a Lot of the Time when the Flywheel runs. When you run them on the damaged Surface your basically make them run, tumble, run, tumble .... this is putting a Lot of Stress onto the Springs and they are not designed to take that Stress. So, my Suggestion... You you won't do that Job again soon, replace the 72th Wheel also and be done with it for a long Time. Other than this, i fully agree with Georges Comment.
  14. That was a good One !!! :crackup::crackup:
  15. The Spring goes between Filter and Filter Housing. The clunky Noise was the Starter Clutch loosing Grip and renengaging. Sound slike your banging a small Sledgehammer to the Motor. This needs to be adressed soon, because the three Bolts are loose already and they will will rattle themself loose completely and find a Way into the Guts of the Motor. You'll need the Clutch repair Set which contents three Rollors, three small Springs and three Caps, the 72th Wheel which the Clutch Rollers engage to, three Allen Head Bolts from Yamaha (or M8x25 in Grade 10.9) and Stator and middle Drive Gear Cover Gaskets. If the Clutch Housing isn't broken, you can reuse this. The biggest pita is undoing the Flywheel. You need a fitting universal 3-Leg Puller (Bolts M8x100mm go into the Flywheel) to get it undone. Just make sure to cover the Area where the Flywheel will hit the Ground with a good Portion of Pillions. Other than this, it's a straight forward Job.
  16. Adoption ??? Go buy yourself a Busa, don't try to appoint yourself as Heir !!! :rotf: I glad you found the Culprit. Come on over here Earl, i'll teach you some Electric on Bikes and whatnot else.
  17. I split Lanes every Day, even if it's not allowed here in Germany. Whatever Bike and whatever Lane. I do it on Highway occasionally on up the 110 mph, if the Behaviour of the Cars isn't too suspicious. But it's dangerous and you have to be very alert. It's allowed in Austria while Traffic isn't moving and the Rider has to act very carefull. Nowadays, Car even give Room to split, 20 Years ago you'd better be aware to the Fact some HAS to open the Door right in front of you. I agree Paris, France is a crazy City, also regarding Traffic. My Drivers (Class 8 Trucks) are all LESS than excited when i have to send them there. I didn't expect them going after Americans too, normally Germans are not so well seen there from most Folks. This is because of some Remainder of WWI and II. A Lot of French can't get over that, still after 60 Years. But it's much worse on the Atlantic Coast. Watch out for "Bosch", no that's not meant to be the Auto Parts, it has another Meaning in french Language.
  18. I sure don't like to read such Story. But when reading the Rider(s) are OK, i feel better. Metal/Plastic can be repaired or replaced, Humans not. I hope the Wunds heal quick and for the Rest, well Goose is tripple Adress all by himself, i'm sure he will make all taken care of. Best Regards from Stuttgart, Germany
  19. I assume your talking about a Dyna 3000 Ignition ? Don't mistake a Powercommander, which is a Device to alter EFI Timing Signals with the Dyna3000 Aftermarket Igniter Uint. A Powercommander won't work on a carburated Bike.
  20. I'm just glad you found the Culprit. Now get out and ride !!
  21. Nope, i got a Head Start !!! :bluesbrother:
  22. Take the Cover off and undo the six Bolts. Turn the Clutch Plate for each 60 Degrees until it slips INTO the the Basket. I think all will be fine then. The Plate won't fit at any Place there are only one or two Position where it will fit snug.
  23. Jeremy, you're right, there's nothing tapered on the Stem.
  24. Sure, if you have a Carb Set or all Jets at Hand, you can "just" change them. They interchange without a Problem. But you have to change most, if not all Jets, Air as well as Fuel Jets. Needle Jets(Emulsion Tubes), Jet Needles. Depends on what Years you have lying Side by Side on the Bench. Buying them all new might cost you an Arm and a Leg, if not more.
  25. Yes, that's right. The Ring Gear throws Oil up to the Pinion Gear Shaft and through those two Holes the Spline is lubed by Design. I personally think a very minor(!!) Touch of Moly60 wouldn't harm in any Way, since the Moly attaches to the Material of the Spline it would be helping to keep the Splines in good Shape. Very minor actually means a minor and thin Layer !!
