...and I am slowly learning to simply say "yes, dear" ...
-
Well guys, it's the woman's multi-tasking gene that get's things done all at once. Why would we women be single focused when multi-focusing allows us to start a 'conversation' and at the same time decide what's on our to do list, decide what to make for dinner, where can I find those shoes I need, prioritize what needs to be done for the household, remember to call the kids and my mum, and come down from working at the office all day. It's possible to do it all at once. However, thank goodness my one at a time, single focused husband can bring me back into the conversation he thought we were having! And that's why we need the objective man and the many objectives woman riding together. See what I mean? No? Hmmmm...

yes, if anyone can grab a copy, I'd love to see it. Guess I could call the casting company. -
Wife and I were talking about a movie we watched the other day (The Blind side)... had Sandra Bullock in it. Anyway, she (my wife) said she had been talking with her boss about it. She (her boss) had also seen the movie and really liked it. She (my wife) commented how ironic it was that she (now here's where I got mixed up) had just adopted a black baby. Now since she (my wife) continued to use the word "she", I thought she (my wife) meant her boss (as that is who were were talking about) but since she (my wife) didn't specify she (meaning Sandra Bullock) I thought she (her boss) just adopted a black baby. "Really?" I said... "wow... when did she (her boss) do that?" She (my wife) said "oh... I think it was about 3 months ago" ... I then said "I'm surprised you didn't tell me that she (her boss) had adopted a baby" ... She (my wife) said "it was all over the papers and the news" ... OK, now I'm thinking... "why would my wifes boss's adoption be all over the papers, etc???" LOL... then I asked.... "you're talking about your boss....right?" ... NO she (my wife) says.... Sandra Bullock!! Well, the reason there's a problem in communication between a woman and a man is that a man thinks logically and literally whereas a woman's thoughts can dart from one thing to another and then to another and while speaking, not necessarilly articulate the change in direction. You have to be a good listener (or another woman) to stay in "tune". .... we had a good laff about that one!

Fairing Crack Question
SilvrT replied to MPK's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Personally I would not use fiberglass to repair ABS plastic. It may work in certan situations but the best thing is a 2-part ABS epoxy such as Plastex. Also, prior to using an ABS epoxy, you could do some plastic welding with an electric soldering gun...if for nothing else but to "tack weld" the item in place. I've also seen specialized ABS welding kits for these situations...somewhere here on the site someone has posted info about this.- 20 replies

This was nominated for best joke of the year.

Nina & I work in the heart of downtown Vancouver. We ride the skytrain every day to get there. The majority of the folks on the train are from other countires and similarly are the people walking around downtown. They are either immigrants or tourists and many have origins in other countries only one or two generations back. What is really bothersome is that you never see any of them "homeless" along with all the other homeless people who are generally white (several generations Canadian or native people or folks who are mentally challenged). Canada does so much for the immigrants and refugees yet very little for our own. this is is gonna turn political if I keep going so .... bye! -

oh yes... we got a nice chunk of the green stuff! We got paid good for the shoot and a good lump as a buyout ... conditional on us making the "cut" and obviously we did as we got the money... and we're on the tube. -
So what is this stuff everyone is drinking that they can't stand??? When I had mine, doc told me to use "oral fleet" ... small bottle...maybe 10 oz. Mixed it with some water and downed it ... 15 min later it was all over (not literally).

and are you saying that getting our autograph now that we're famous is different? -
yep... they're really getting strict around here....and it's about time I say. Frankly, I cannot afford to loose my D/L or do anything that will jeopardize my good driving record so, I am now limiting myself to 1 drink and not driving for at least an hour afterwards. Anything more than that and driving is out of the question.

YESSSSSSSSSSS.... that is me and Nina ... I recognize the white strips they put on the helmets and some distinguishing things on the scoot! -
Well, I know (or at least figgure) I'll get a lot of flack from what I have to say but here goes.... I do not see this (VR.org) as a "club" but rather, a group of folks who've joined into an on-line forum because of a few commonalities. We ride a motorcycle and moreover, we ride a Venture. We have various "get-togethers" and rallys but as yet, we are not a "club" as other clubs go. The minute it becomes a club, with "rules and regulations", etc, etc... that will be the day I depart. As for the drinking and riding... I do admit, I will allow myself a max of 2 beers and frankly, if anyone isn't happy with that, they can choose to not ride with me. If, because of the 2 beers, they don't want me riding in their "group", so be it... I am just as happy to ride alone and I'll see ya all at the next stop...or not.

Leveling links off/front forks raised in tree
SilvrT replied to theostar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
How much did you raise the forks? Any "technical tips" you'd care to share on doing this mod? -
My stock tires were the D404 and I got excellent mileage out of the rear but the front wore out pretty quick. I replaced the front with a 130 and saw an immediate improvement in low speed handling and less effort in the twisties but I don't like the way they track on roads with parallel high/lows or grouves. Seems the front or rear wants to slide sideways while the other doesn't, giving the bike what I call a "squirelly" feel. I recall having that same feeling when a rear tire gets worn out while the front isn't. I'm replacing the front this winter with a 150 and installing the levelling links.

I've gone thru a few "down times" when I haven't had a bike. Once for almost 6 years. While riding is a predominant "summer" thing in my life, that is usually only for 3-4 months of the year so during the rest of the time and in those down times, I've always found many other things to fill the void. That being said, there is always this feeling of "wish I could be riding". Since meeting Nina 5 & 1/2 years ago and introducing her to riding, it has become one of the primary common interests in our life together. We both live for the summer riding season.

SilvrT replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
I really don't know where or when or even IF the commercial will be used. Our contract states that if we make the "final cut", we get the buyout. .... we got the buyout cheques yesterday and that's about all I know ... wish I knew more. -

Well..... it appears the commercial has or will be aired as we got our buyout cheques yesterday!! woop! woop! -
The trailer pulled really good. Seemed as tho it stabilized the bike some even. Handled the twisties with ease although I did take them a bit slower and even at 100 mph (160 km/h) it was no problem (hit that while passing a string of RV's) I never checked fuel mileage but we seemed to do pretty good most of the time. The added weight was noticeable tho when cranking it on or pulling the hills. Yes, even tho the weather wasn't what we'd hoped for, we still made the best of it and enjoyed ourselves. Heck, I even got "overserved" a few times LOL. The pics of us clinking the wine glasses was at a Keg restaurant in Calgary (great place for steak dinner). We blew $100 that evening wining and dining on steak and lobster and shrimp! I didn't post the pic Nina took of me passed out on the bed afterwards LOL (the rum was very smooth)!

So we've been planning this biking/camping trip since last spring. Bought a trailer, bought all the camping gear we'd need, made our plans and a few reservations, checked the weather forecast, loaded up and headed out Sep 4th early AM. First stop Osoyoos, BC for 3 nights/2 days of camping in one of BC's "hot spots". Booked a spot right next to the lake. Planned to soak up the sun, swimming, rent a sea-doo, go trail riding... blah blah.... and it all went downhill from here. The wind was so bad we could barely pitch our tent. Sand was blowing into everything. We slept overnight and in the morning the wind was still blowing and picking up so down came the tent and we headed out. Rode into Trail and stayed a night in a motel, visited some relatives and headed out the next morning. Weather wasn't too bad up to this point but that would be the last we'd see of the sun and any warmth for the next several days. We were bundled up pretty good to keep warm and dry and rode the Nelson, Balfour ferry, Creston route in cloudy, cool, and some rain ending up in Cranbrook, BC. Original plan was to camp over here for a couple nights but, no such luck as it was still cloudy, a bit of rain, and quite cool so, another night in a motel. Left Cranbrook the next morning and headed north to Radium, thru the park to Banff and on to Calgary. Again, the weather just wasn't with us so into a motel we go and stayed over a couple nights to visit friends. Poured rain the first night and all the next day so we decided to rent a car to get around .... just our crappy luck all they had was a Mustang convertible...oh well lol. Original plan was to ride to Biggar Sask to visit Nina's mom, stopping over at Drumheller but considering the weather forecast, we elected to leave the bike and trailer in Calgary and take the rented car. Due to this added cost, we also shortened our trip there and went straight to biggar, only stopping there for 2 nights, then back to Calgary. For most of that leg of the trip it was cloudy, rainy and quite cool although we did hit a bit of sun on the way back to Calgary and enjoyed riding with the top down on the car (for about an hour). Back in Calgary we stayed another night in the motel and lit out the next morning, heading south to Fort MacLeod and then west towards Cranbrook, ending up in Creston for the night. This had to be the worst part of the trip and probably the worst riding I've ever experienced. From Ft MacLeod onwards thru to Pincher Creek and Coleman, the wind was so bad I could barely keep the bike in my own lane of the highway. At one point we dropped down into a gully and across a bridge and as we were going down the hill, the sign said "Caution - Extreme Wind gusts". Now, I've ridden this route many times and have never hit wind like this and when we crossed that bridge, a gust of wind nearly knocked us right off the road. It was about all I could do to maintain some level of control over the bike.... totally scared the crap out of both of us. Left Creston the next morning and headed for Osoyoos once again, the plan being that if we didn't have some nice weather, we'd just continue on home. If we did, we'd look for a place to camp. Luck was with us as most of that ride was in nice weather. We were finally able to shed some of our several layers of clothing and get back to just jeans and riding jacket. The weather in Osoyoos was great! Mostly sunny and fairly warm so we started looking for a suitable camping spot, finally finding a great little government camp ground (8 camping spots) along side of a lake (Vaseau Lake sp? for those who know the area) and just one spot was left...and it had our name on it. So finally we got to utilize all our camping gear and the weather held out for us for a few days and we got to kick back and relax. We decided to head for home on Thursday (yesterday) as according to the forecast, it would be the last relatively nice day and we didn't want to be riding home in crappy weather. The ride home was great until about an hour away ... then we hit rain and by the time we got to our doorstep, it was coming down pretty good. Since we were so close, we didn't even bother to put our raingear on... just decided to keep on going even if we did get wet. Surprisingly, we barely got wet at all...just a little dampness on our knees and shins. All-in-all it was quite the memorable trip and Nina & I are still married! LOL here's some pics for ya'll to view...(they appear to be in either reverse or random order) http://s393.photobucket.com/albums/pp16/SilvrT/Holidays%202010/
