1. I'm sorry but I can't offer any help on this. I'm in a similar situation. I had the RK's (completely drilled out) on and after a while on a long trip mostly pulling hills and a trailer, I got tired of the noise so I put the stock pipes back on. The wife says the bike sounds "wimpy" now and she want the noisy pipes back. Rather than put the RK's back on (yet), I'm going to try a pair of Khromewerks (used that I got from another member here). Some say they are louder than the RK's but I do know their "sound" is different so we'll see how that goes once I get them.
2. Aren't you from Hailifax??? Would you be meaning KILOMETERS and not miles?? You're retired right? I'm not, nor is my wife. We both work 5 days a week, Mon-Fri and we only do long-distance riding when we get our holidays. The rest of it is relatively local with the odd overnighter into the interior. Like I said in a prev post .... this all might be a matter of personal interpretation of "wind effect". I too have been riding for many, many years, mostly 2-up. I've lived in Alberta for 8 years and rode all over there. I've ridden into Sask several times. I know what heavy wind is like. Last Sept we hit some of the worst wind I've ever experienced down by Ft. MacLeod ... it was one of those winds that could have blown a tractor-trailer off the road if they happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time ... when a gust thru a gulley slammed them... which it did us and let me tell you, had I not been the "wind-experienced" rider I am, we would have been in the ditch. I know from experience that a HD Ultra is rock-solid in the wind. I am saying that I just don't recall any of my frame-mounted bikes being quite as sensitive to wind gusts or turbulence as my RSV. My experience on an 1800 Wing is limited to a 2 hour test drive mostly on the freeway. I did not notice any problems whatsoever when riding near, behind, or beside rigs travelling at 120 km/h nor did I feel any instability of any kind when I took it up over 200 km/h and ran it at that for a good 2 or 3 minutes. I am not saying here that the RSV is "difficult" to ride in wind ... just to me it seems more sensitive than those frame-mount fairing bikes I did ride. Now, I've recently installed the "levelling links" and I do run a 130 front tire so, maybe these two things combined are contributing negatively to this. I know there's no looseness in the head bearings. In any event, it's really not that serious of an issue to that we need to beat the subject to death any further. Let's chalk it up to a "matter of opinion" and let it slide. (I guess I can say that since I started this LOL)
3. I used a spray-can product from Canadian Tire Auto department and I only painted the back. I believe it was a fast-dry enamel ... glossy.
4. hahahaha ... nothing more fun to watch than a CAT FIGHT !!
5. Good info but... I got this bike essentially new (1300 kilometers) just over 2 years ago and in now has just over 31,000 kilometers. I've haven't checked the bearings for torque but have changed the tires. Although I suppose it's possible but I find it hard to believe the head bearings could be out of whack that bad with such few km's on the bike. Heck, I rode my '85 and '87 for twice that many km's and both had well over 130,000 on them and head bearings was never an issue, nor was the effect of the wind as noticeable. The other part of my "arguement" is that anything bolted directly to the forks such as a fork mounted fairing which, in this case, catches ALL the wind is bound to have a direct effect on the steering ... it only makes logical sense. A frame mounted fairing disperses that effect through the frame and not so much on the steering. Getting back to the bearings, there is no looseness and I have done the "test" by checking the "bounce-back" off the stopper and it does as folks on here say it should so I had no reason to go so far as to do a torque test. Perhaps what we're into here is a difference of individual interpretation??? Having said that, I will, for arguement's sake, get around to checking the bearing torque as I do have the proper wrench for it. Being the skeptic that I am though, I doubt my effort will show anything out of spec. Thanks tho for your input ... it is appreciated.
6. I wonder if I deleted my original post, would the entire thread disappear?? After all, ever since post #3 the whole thing has become a battleground with mini continuously coming out on top! Give up guys... ya can't win nohow!

8. They don't call back probably because it was sold and they haven't bothered to remove the ad. Just plain INCONSIDERATE!!
9. Chris ... were you at Kruisin Kootenays last year?? Your comment above is one I always find interesting although it doesn't really come up very often. The reason I find it interesting is because I can't concur with it and it makes me wonder why folks make this statement. We were out this past Saturday for a short ride and it was the first ride on the scoot since last October. As it turned out, there was a bit of a wind blowing ... not much ... and I could immediately feel it. I was, at times, having a hard time staying in my "track" ... that being either the right or left of centre of the lane. I've noticed this since the beginning when I got the bike. IMHO, the effect of wind or air turbulence on the RSV is far more than any "frame mount" fairing bike I've ever ridden, including an 1800 Wing which I ran at over 200 km/h on the freeway last year. This also includes my previous 4 bikes which were an '87 & '85 Venture, an '83 Wing, and a 74 Honda-4 ... all with frame mounted fairings.
10. geeez ... 192lbs ... 32x30 pants and skinny legs??? dang what are mine then at 155lbs ... 33x32 pants.... toothpicks???? (no answer necessary) there's some conflicting thought in here about bone size/structure. The fact is, two people of the same height and weight can look totally different....one could look "skinny" and the other could not. The reason is bone size. I am very small-boneD ... got it from my mother. That's why, at 155lbs, I don't see myself as being "skinny" but rather, slim or small-structured. Now, if I were to put on 30 or 40 lbs, it would make me look FAT. Yet there are millions of guys out there around 6 ft or a bit less, weighing just under 200lbs who don't look fat....because their bone size is larger. My son is 6' 2" and weighs 195. He has wider shoulders and a larger chest than me and his muscles look more like mine did when I was his age but when you compare his legs to mine or his hands to mine... there's not a lot of difference in size. What I see there is a mixture of smaller and larger bone structure. When I was 35, I was at my peak of physical size and strength. I piled lumber in a sawmill. I ate at least 3 times more in a day than I do today, I had rock-hard muscles and a definate 6-pak, I worked out with a power bar every day, I was very physically active off the job ... trekked around the mountains regularly, skiid in the winter, played softball in the summer, hiking, etc, etc .... I weighed 165lbs then...the most I've ever weighed in my life.
11. now I'd like to know just how many skeletons you've examined that closely that you can make that statement....
12. heh... you're now part of a VERY LARGE CLUB.... LOL glad that's all it was!
13. CDN dollar is worth more than US so I actually paid less and there's nothing added on at customs. Not even sure if USPS has to clear customs the same way as, for example UPS does. I know with UPS coming out of the states, it is a PITA. Anything else I've had shipped USPS has never had any customs issues or duties. Thanks for the info and link tho. BTW, the one I ordered is new.
14. Did you inadvertently disconnect the fuel pump electrical? Ya, as Condor mentioned... check your kill switch .... that lil sukka has fooled many of us... LOL
15. This seller is currently showing free shipping to Canada .... at least for this RAM mount if anyone is interested. 16. We weren't the only ones being considered for the part. When we showed up for the initial screening, there were at least a dozen couples. Some I know for sure rode Harley product. They chose us and another couple riding a Wing. Once we got to the shooting location and they did a couple "runs" shooting us and the other couple, they quickly dropped them. Dunno if it had anything at all to do with the type of motorcycle. The guy driving the Wing just couldn't seem to follow the director's instructions, not to mention that, having supposedly years and years of riding experience and over 200,000 kilometers on his Wing, still couldn't seem to handle it worth a crap.
17. I haven't done mine yet but plan to. I got a length of neoprene gas line hose and will just route that from the new filter position to the fuel pump. Can even use the existing clamps plus one extra.
18. I don't "get" this addiction to Dairy Queen ... they don't even serve REAL ICE CREAM! Now I dunno about you guys down south but up here they have "brassiere burgers" (sp?) .... maybe that's what REALLY LURING ya'll ????
19. We're going to start shooting this spring .... it will be a movie to be released in 2012. They haven't decided on the name of the movie yet but there's discussions of maybe having a "name the movie" contest. Of course, Nina will be the main star of the movie .... and as usual, I'll be the driver.... I can't tell you much about it at this time of course but it will involve motorcycles and soup. I'll keep everyone posted if and when they hold the contest so ya'll can get in on it....
20. I painted mine black on the inside and then added a bit of safety chrome "dress-up" ...
21. I was standing on the left side of the bike and the valve was in a vertical position.... Heck, I can't remember... I think I tried blowing thru both ends but I can't remember which end blued my face...
22. Really??? guess I'll have to test that coz it sure worked on my '87.
23. I generally cruise between 130 & 150 when I'm riding the freeway and I've done this for much of the distance between Vancouver and Hope (appx 150 km). When I had my '87 (basically the same engine) and I rode out to Sask, I set the cruise on 145 and let 'er go across the prairiies. Sure, an 1800 Wing can do it a bit effortlessly but these engines on the Venture can certainly handle high=speed cruising for extended periods of time. Like was said earlier, your gas mileage drops dramatically tho.
24. :rotf: :rotf: One would have to know what you're really referring to here to get it.
25. Exactly how does one check them??? I tried blowing thru it ... my face got blue!
