gunboat replied to jlh3rd's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
hi all ponch got the gauges all set up and installed saturday. wow they are nice and looks great. i am well pleased with the fit and workmanship. now i have a kuryakyn chrome universal led battery gauge #4219 up for grabs. best reguards don c. -
hi all on saturday just got a few miles on the new kumho. first thing i did notice was, i am seting a little higer in the seat. i thought the kumho was just a 1/2" taller than the bfg or close to a stock m/c tire for the rear. but it's not bad i can shift around a little and be flat footed on the ground. i was blessed with short legs. sunday i put in a couple hundred miles in. boy what a difference in the handling. i lean to either side and it goes. man you talk about smooth. i still have a few thousand miles left on the me 880 130/90-16 front so i may change it or wait. wish the avon corba was made in a 130/90-16 though and i would just stay with that size. more info to come, but i LIKE it. best reguards don c.

hi dick i started striping the bike on friday afternoon. i belive the only things that need to be removed on saturday morming. was the radio control box under the faring and my universal led battery gauge #4219 from kuryakyn. took me about 4 hrs on friday ( dang it had to go to work that night ). got home about 7:45 saturday morning just got coffee going and ponch arrives. just a few minutes later kabay pulls in. they had never been to my house before, so we did the 2 bit tour. so we or i should say THEY were thru around noon. as i have said i would still be working on the bike if it was just me. they are great friends and we work well together and enjoy each other's company. i can't say about a road trip but you never know were the texas bunch will show up. best reguards don c.

hi all buddy you are so funny, you are always welcome to stay at the house. bigboy we tryed to seat the beads but was having a lot of heck. ended up going down to a local tire store. cryed on the store mangers shoulder about all the problems that us'es was having. he took the tire into the service bay his self and just started to seat the beads. ( one of the tire tech's asked him what kind of car did that rim come off of? ) i could not hear what he told him. but a few minutes later he rolled the wheel out to me. saying to set the air pressure at what i wanted. nice guy would not take a dime. go back to the house to finish the job, beads were not fully set yet. my air compressor only goes up to 125psi. my higest tire gauge only goes to 70 psi and it was way passed that point. so it finaley seated one side then the other, so it could not have been over 120 psi. don't know for sure how high kabay jumped when it did POP to seat. i used a silcone based lube called dow-corning -33. i wish to say again very special thanks to Ponch & Kabay :cool10: for i would still be working on the bike. they were like mad men possesed to install the gauge set & kumho c/t. best reguards don c.

Does anyone else have these problems?
gunboat replied to SpaceMan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
rick butter had a cure for the groning shock. it was to add a 1/2 oz of 40wt fork oil and 1/2 oz of auto tranny fluid to the shock. i had to replace my rear shock two years ago at my own expenise. the new shouck started to gron after a while. so i injected this mx into the valve stem hole. ( got to remove the stem first ). i thing i had to do this two different times but, it cured the gron. but if you still have any warrenty left, make the dealer install a new shock. best reguards don c. -
yep i agree with tom. jb's been real busy this year, but can't speak for him. but there is the ride down to the 'BEND' coming up in november that's looking real good. i know i'am planing on beening there. don c.

hi all you darksiders friday afternoon after i had pulled the bfg c/t off the bike. i sat it next to the kumho c/t. i noticed an interesting difference between the two. the bfg has a well defined 'square' shoulder. where as the kumho is more rounded. i have stated in the past about the 'wall' you feel with the bfg when leaning the bike (either direction) for the first several hundred miles or so. this feeling is not bad and goes away. i just figured it was doing this till it skuffed / wore in. some have said that they did not notice this 'wall' feeling with the kumho c/t. now i can see why, will update soon. best reguard don c.

hi folks i will be changing out the bfg for a kumho in the morning. finaly wore the bfg down to the wear bars ( just over 30,000 miles ). funny thing is the edges still look like new. kaby is coming over in the am to help. ponch will also be here to help me install one of his gauge sets. i am a lucky man to have these two great vr members help me with this little project. i will be looking at a avon corbra to install on the front soon. i installed a metzeler 880 just before going the '08 international rally last year. by my notes i got 22,000 miles on it. i realy like the 880 ( have got great service & no handling issuses with it) but will give the avon a try. best reguards don c.
