Whenever I get a lot of gruff from on of those guys I shut them up by saying ,on a Hot day over 100 degrees in the shade I can let my bike sit and idle for hours and it won't get hot ,how about yours?Plus riding slow on a hot day in traffic my bike won't loose power, does yours. What makes it worse for me is my real first name is Harley, that is why they call me Hog.But on poker runs and rallies I attend people always say Oh cool when they find out my name is Harley and they ask what kind do you ride and I tell them Yamaha and they say what!!! I sometimes end up telling them I don't want to have to rebuild the upper end on a bike after 30,000 miles.Different strokes for different folks.I Love my RSV ,just got back from aroad trip to my home town and got home and was not wore out from the ride for the first time. Most comfortable bike I ever rode.

About 8 years ago I built my shop.Did much planning and research to determine how big to make it,what size door or doors etc. plus got plenty of advice from co workers friends etc. I decided on a metal building with a 4" concrete floor 24'x36' with a 16'x8' overhead door.A lot of people told me when you decide how big to make it go 10' bigger and put in a floor drain and go with a 10' door.I used to pour concrete for a living when I was much younger so I did the floor and footings myself and blind seamed the floor,(which is using a trowel when the concrete is not quite hard and making a cut through the concrete and then troweling over the cut to close the finish up and when it cracks it will crack in a straight line and not have a rough edge for rollers on a tool box to catch on)plus there will not be a big gap in the cracks or gap as in saw cutting. But I did not take everyones advise and now I wish I would have went bigger and made the door higher and put in a floor drain. It is a mess in the winter when snow and water melts of and refreezes on the floor.Plus a 4 wheel drive pickup with a lift kit will not fit under my door.Once I got all my stuff in it drill press, band saw, welder cutt-off saw, grinder, air comppressor, plus all my woodworking tools and parts washer tool boxes etc. I lost a lot of room in it.Better to go too big than not enough.

A few years back I bought a used Hobart 250 wire feed welder for 800.00 from my Linweld dealer and absolutely Love it.I have welded for many years and to me wire feed is the way to go especially for in a shop or garage where you do not have a wind problem blowing the gas away from your weld as someone else mentioned plus you don't have to worry about rod getting wet or the rod sticking and chipping the slag away and the wire welder is much easier to use and makes a much better looking weld in my opinion. The main thing is getting the heat and wire speed figured out.I use .035 copper free wire and argon for shielding gas.I have made two trailers using it and it is awesome for doing exhaust and bodywork on a car.I don't use it a lot lately but when I do it is sure handy to have my own welder.I owned a small 110 welder and did not like it at all.For me 220 is the only way to go.

I have had my 2001 Royal star venture for three weeks now.I had an 81 Goldwing and a 2002 Vulcan 1500 classic and most recently the 1988 Kawasaki voyager 1200 and me and my wife both say the Venture by far is the most comfortable bike we been on yet and the most fun to ride.I always thought my Voyager was such a smooth comfortable ride but the venture has changed my mind. Now I am really dreading winter coming,I will be going nuts everytime I go to my shop and see my bike sitting there and can't ride.

I had two really close ones on my old bike an 88 Voyager.First time I was slowing down at an intersection with a merging lane curve and some guys had poured concrete and washed their tools and got the street wet and I was using my front brake very lightly and soon my front tire starts to slide out from under me and I let off and hit the throttle and was able to keep it up.Made the old heart skip a few beats though.Second time I was riding home from work in rain and one road was being redone with asphalt and they did it in sections so I knew somewhere I was going to hit a spot with fresh oil on the surface and when I saw a sign that said bump ahead I knew this was it.I slowed to thirty not realizing just how slick it would be.When my front end dropped off into the oiled part suddenly I got big time front end wobble,a common problem on voyagers anyway, but on oil it was terrible I could hardly hang onto the bars.I slowed to 10 MPH and it felt like I was on Ice.Going up a slight grade my rear tire was spinning and I rode for a mile and a half with both feet down.I just thank God I knew this would be there and slowed down first.

Just bought my first Royal Star Venture and got into a long discussion with a tried and true Harley buff about why I would be getting another so called jap bike.Especially when my given first name is Harley! So I told him about really thinking it over hard and came up with the fact I didn't have 18,000.00 laying around to by a used Harley that may have to have the upper end rebuilt after 30,000 miles and Harley's not being water cooled and running hot etc. So he finally gave up.I got my 2001 Venture aand absolutely Love it and I thought my old bike was comfortable (1988 Kawasaki Voyager 1200).Went on a poker run this weekend and shown my taillights to a few Ultra Classics too.

I ride 32 miles to work one way everyday and some of the boneheads I have run across should not even have a license to drive.People waiting at an intersection and at the last minute pull out in front of me,tailgating me,had one old lady try to share the same lane with me on a four lane highway. My worst incident was as I was stopped at a stop sign turn signal on to turn right and this car pulls up behind me stops then she starts to go forward and pushes me about 5 feet before she realized I was in front of her.I got off the bike and went back and proceeded to rip her a new one while her window was rolled up.Idiots!!!

Haven't become a paying member yet but I will.I just bought an 01 Royal Star Venture last weekend and got a hell of a deal on it because it had a slight backfire on deceleration occasionally.Got on this site and found out about the AIS valve thing and took care of my backfire and in the process found the vacumn leak that was causing the backfire when I did a modification with the vacumn hose and found the rubber caps on the carbs were cracked. Then read about drilling out the exhaust and did that and love the sound of my bike now.So far I really like this forum. Now just if I could find a place to get passenger armrests for the wife and windshield pouches or bags for my bike.

I can remember in my teen years I could go out on a Friday night and fill my car (1957 2dr. hardtop chevy Belair which I gave 250.00 for)and buy a case of Budweiser and a pack of Marlboros and pay me and the girlfriends way into the drive-in,all for $10.00.Was making $1.50 an hour at two jobs pumping gas and sacking groceries and thought I was rich.AHHHH the good ole days.
