  1. But who falls for this nowadays?
  2. 2004 with 5k miles. for $18,750
  3. Everybody, I have a scam alert. I am selling my RSTD and it's on C.L. and cycle trader. Well this morning I get a text that asks if I still have it for sale. I replyed "yes I do". The next text was " Hi thanks for getting back to me, am ok with the price and the condition, i won't be able to come for the inspection due to the nature of my work.i would havelove to call in person but we have call restriction due to bad weather condition our satellite server has been down. i will be paying you through PayPal, pls get back to me with your PayPal details so i can proceed with the payment and contact." Next I asked where was he/she located, what is your nameand I stated that if it was going to be pay pal I was going to ship at the buyers cost. This was the second time I asked for a name. The reply was I have a private agent who will come for the pick up as soon as the funds has been transferred to your paypal account so all I need from you is your paypal email so i can pay in. I told him then that he hadn't answered any of my questions so I asked them again and asked the "agent" name. I told him that until I was satisfied there was no deal. The agent would have to bring cash to a location of my chosing and I protect myself unless I he could meet those conditions then there was nothing left to discuss. When I got to work today my co-worker that is selling his Honda Rune and ST1300 had the exact same text message. Don't think anyone here is dumb enough to fall for this but pass it on!!!
  4. As most have said about hte RTSD it helps if you area a solo rider. My wife doesnt ride but my 13 year old son does sometimes and he hates the stock backrest in comparison to the electra-glide tour pack.

    R.I.P.

Condolences on you loss. My brothers and can't agree on anything but we are thick as thieves and I can't imagine losing them.
  6. I've owned both I had a 1999 RSV and I really enjoyed but it was top heavy and I just never cared for the look of the front fairing. I sold it when I went to Korea and when I came back I got the 2007 RSTD. To me it feels much better. I'm 6'2" tall so that's not an issue. I added a Hoppe fairing and a quick detach tour pack. The best combo for me is the fairing (with radio) and no tourpack. Just like a Harley street glide, the handling is better and I get the benifits of the fairing with less weight. I can add the tour pak when needed and suffer the extra weight but this was the best solution for me. Of course now Victory has the Cross Country Deluxe with everything I want in a bike already in place so this may be my last Yammy tourer. I would miss the smooth V-4 but I could get used to it and that's another thread.....
  7. Well My computer's been acting up a bit lately. But I went out to start tearing into the bike and guess what the wire connector to my fuse had slipped off. So I changed the windshield and went riding. No Shark system needed but I do have plans for a softail that'll include one in the future. Thanks guys
  8. Bill Sorry I hadn't seen this thread. But I actuallu found the backrest on here. Hopefully by now you've found one. Jim
  9. Thanks for the input. I'm gonna try the SHark system for sure and I'll post the results!!!
  10. Thanks Guys that's why I asked, I was running out of ideas. Bumble Bee, I have tried a marine radio actually all of them were marine radios except this last one which lasted the longest and one other i was thinking just like you on the waves. djh3-that looks promising one thing I forgot to mention is an aux port. I'd like to be able to play my IPOD and get FM anything else is a plus.
  11. All, I'm differing to the vast knowledge of you guys. I've got a 2007 RSTD with a Hoppe Quadzillza fairing and every radio that I've mounted has cut out after a short time. The latest Kenwood has lasted the longest at just under a year. But they all start out the same, first the radio light will cut out but the unit still plays fine then after awhile the unit starts to cut out and restart itself, next it'll cut out and not work until I restart the bike. That's usually the point were I replace the thing but this one has now cut out completely. I may have a blown fuse and I'll look at it when I change to a taller windshield for the winter, probably this weekend. Now my questions are does anyone have any experience with an after market radio with a remote that can take the vibrations of a motorcycle, and would adding amps help with anything other than sound quality? Also has anyone used a Harley radio on a metric bike? Thanks in advance.
  12. Darrin, Somehow this the first time I've come across this. I wish I'd found it earlier. Man, the ride looks great and I could have used many of you ideas on my bike.
  13. Once you get the trunk done post pics please. I did the same thing and I'd love to compare. Good Luck
  14. Glad to see some good news wishing a full and speedy recovery
  15. Praying for Larry's speedy recovery, folks really dont look out for bikes anymore
  16. OK maybe that last post was a little hasty. I did QUICK search of the other Japanese manufacturers and I didn't see any new models or any major revisions that jumped out at me. Maybe they are all playing "wait and see".
  17. I just looked over the entire Star 2013 line-up and all that is new is the V-Star 1300 Deluxe and the Raider SCL. So really we have one bike in limited numbers with extra chrome and and special badge going for an additional $5,000 and mid sized cruiser with a fairing, audio and GPS added (albeit I think the prcie is much more reasonable). And that's it. So could the economy, earthquake and so forth be hitting Yamaha more than we know or are they just focusing elsewhere? It seems they haven't learned anything from the V-max. The orignal dominated it's market and Yamaha let it stagnate for nearly 20 years then they come out with a bike that is an "also ran" and tack a $20,000 price tag on it. Maybe that's why I've only seen one on the road since it was released. I just don't understand the business stategy here, if there is one.
  18. If that's true and we've all heard it before then it'll be 14 yrs no change, one year off then a new bike finally. There should be another two years to address any issues with a new design if Yamaha ever does. I don't see myself waiting that long in my search for a new ride. If we look at the current bike Yamaha didn't even tweak it enough to remove a cassette player or add ABS. There's no way they'd address a real issue on a new bike. Time to check out another brand and I hate that I've had more Yamaha/Stars than any other bike.
  19. Rick, That's a good idea I'll do just that and when hopefully I get the new ride I'll send them a pic. For me it'll probablt be the Victory XTC.
  20. I give up!! I've been looking almost daily here and on the Star site for over a year. If Yamaha wants to still put out a 1999 product then it should be at 1999 prices! A cassette!?!? Really the joke isn't even funny anymore it's just sad. I'm looking to buy another tourer in the spring hopefully and won't even be on my list to look at!!! If the company can't respond to it's most loyal customers then I need to find another company. But I do love me some VentureRider
  21. I had just finished P.T. and was on my way to my rigging shop to prepare some engineer bulldozers and road graders for air drop later in the day. I heard about the first plane on the radio and thought it was an accident. By the time I got to the shop word of the second plane was on the radio. I left my clerk to get updates and gathered the engineers in a formation. I told them to contact their units and be prepared to leave at any moment. When I got more information I passed it on to my soldiers and the engineers. I told the engineers to report to thier units and that I was responsibile for canceling their drops if anyone asked. I didn't have the authority but I knew that since we were all in shock it would take awhile for word to filter down but there would be no training that day. The last thing I told the engineers before they left was "From this day forward we are at war". The odd thing is the day before I was preparing for my anniversary and left work a little early. My Commander wanted some info that was already on his desk and I had to turn around to present it to him even though my senior was there to brief it. I was so mad that I actually told my senior. "Hell it wasn't even that important. It's not like we are going to war tomorrow". To this day even though I'm retired and we are good friends and riding buddies he still brings it up.
  22. Kewl Metal makes one ther may be others. I have been looking hard at that bike. http://www.kewlmetal.com/kewlheel-shifter-2011-up-victory-vision-xc-and-xr/
  23. Easy, That is true I have a buddy that has one and it looks great from about 15 feet but once you get close it does look flimsy. I didn't ride it (we aren't that close). I agree on the Goldwing and I love the way it rides. But I can't see myself on one just yet. Heck--I'm still silly enough to look atbuying a sportbike. I have looked over and over agian at the Cross Country Tour but not just yet.
  24. I've been checking this post every day hoping that there is some good news but none yet. I realy don't expect any but I'd love to be surprised. I spoke to a dealer yesterday and told him I loved the bike V-4, air cooled and all but I wanted Yamaha to just step up. I find it hard to agree with a bike that hasn't been updated since '99 going for the same price point as bikes that have seen numerous changes in the past years. Heck some of the competition didn't even exist in 99. Victory? Voyager? Come on Yamaha I don't think most of us want a totally different bike just an update of what we've got. I'm hoping to buy a new tourer next year and Yamaha isn't even on my radar and that's so wrong, I've had more Yammys than any other make and I'd like to continue that. Is anyone hearing anything else?
  25. Congratulations!!! Now you can ride the days away.
