  1. Try evil bay. I've seen entire dash assemblies there from time to time. If you have the patience, you can use a soldering iron to over cure the conformal coating so you can get to the circuit runs. Used to be a 2M Inspector/Instructor. If I had the thing in my hands I might be able to fix it.... Even then, the hard part will be keeping the board from failing again. BTW: Welcom Aboard Shipmate....
  2. Thanks. I sorta figured the connectors would be some where under the seat. Do you happen to know if the connectors are color coded or other wise identifiable?
  3. Another symptom I noticed was noise. Because the power balance is off, at idle the engine shounds like the connecting rods are knocking. As the revs go up the engine can exhibit some nasty vibrations, some thing a V-Four shouldn't do..... I also noticed the power curve was not very smooth. Low end torque was spotty, mid-range was a little better, and the high end seemed sluggish.
  4. I'm getting ready to add tail, brake, and turn signals to my Voyager kit. I have the lights (6" oval surface mount LED lights from Custom Dynamics...), and I can get a trailer harness and associated stuff locally. What I need to know is were are the connectors for the rear lights (tail, brake, and turn)? I know the rear turn signals have connectors, I saw a set on evil bay.... What I'd like to do is make up some y adapters so I don't have to butcher the stock harness (I'm kinda funny that way.....). Thanks! Y'All ride safe...
  5. Not too long ago I noticed the clutch was slipping. It wasn't too bad, it only happened when I did a high gear roll on going up a grade 2-up and pulling a Voyager Kit. Ordered the parts earlier this month, but never had a chance to tear into the bike until yesterday. Me and my 11 year old grandson did the job in a couple of hours. The internals were VERY clean, there were no surprises in the oil, and the steels all looked brand new. The friction plates were another matter. The friction material was worn VERY thin, but fortunately none of the plates were worn down to metal. Saw that happen on a '97 RSTD, and it was a mess..... Anyway we got her back together, and now I have plenty of clutch.
  6. That could very well be the problem. J&M has 5-wire headsets for $100.00 each. I had problems with the wires in the mike boom breaking. The headsets were OLD, so I replaced 'em. Works like a charm now... Ride Safe....
  7. Decided to replace the speakers in the '91. Got a set of 4" 3-Ways for $23.00 at Wally World. When I pulled the grills this morning and the left grill came out in pieces. I think I can get by for the time being, but I don't think this grill will last too long. Any help finding a replacement will be appreciated. Y'All Ride Safe... And have a good 4th.....
  8. After a couple of close calls recently, I decided to get a better horn. Bopped over to Harbor Freight and snagged a Wolo "Bad Boy" (Strebel clone). I've got the electrical part down (played with Trons in the Navy...), but I'm not sure about the mounting. I'm pretty sure I can pull off one of the stock horns and mount the Bad Boy in its place, but I'm concerned about heat from the engine, so I'm considering mounting the horn inside the fairing. Thoughts? Thanks, and Y'All ride safe...
  9. I've had my Voyager Kit for a while now (got it the week before Rolling Thunder), and we love it. When we bought the kit we did not order lights because I don't care for the stock Harley lights they use. My friend has a Voyager kit with lights on his RSTD, and because the sun washes them out, they are useless. What I'm looking for are lights that I can mount on the fenders, but I don't want to do a lot of sheet metal work. Drilling a couple of small holes is fine, but I don't want to have to perform major surgery. I would like to use LEDs, but I'm not opposed to incandescents..... Any input will be greatly appreciated... BTW: I've looked on Super Brite LEDs dot com, and their lights require cutting major holes in the fenders...... Thanks.
  10. Most likely the synch is still way off. I tried using a home made manometer on a Virago that has just two carbs. I thought I had it "close enough," but when a friend came over with his synch tools, I got a real surprise. When I bought my Venture last November, the next thing I bought was a Carb Tune. It costs around $100.00 and I had to wait for it to come from England, but it is well worth the cost and the wait. In less than 20 minutes I had the engine purring like a kitten. Shortly after that I got to synch a Honda Shadow Spirit, a Kawasaki Voyager, and a Yamaha RSTD.
  11. Thanks Condor. Yep, the old girl does pretty good. We did Rolling Thunder this year, and I got awesome (high 40's) mileage running up I-95 doing 65-70. Ride Safe....
  12. Maybe I should have been more specific: What does the owner's manual say about how you determine when the fuel tank is actually full? I have the math down, been doing this for as long as I can remember.
  13. Got a question about the fuel tank on my '91 VR. The problem is I don't have the owner's manual. I'm rather anal about performance and I'd really like to know what I'm getting for fuel mileage. To do that I need to keep an accurate tally of how many gallons I pump, but I can't do that if I don't know when the tank is actually "Full." For example, I can "fill up," stop pumping, and then watch the fuel level drop slowly. Another squirt and I get the same thing. I know there is an over flow tank involved here, but I have no idea when to stop pumping gas. FWIW, I filled up last night and the bike is getting approximately (Oh how I HATE that word....) 33 MPG around town. This is riding 2-up with a Voyager Kit.... Any help will be greatly appreciated
  14. Been riding for the last two days, and this rig is AWESOME!!!! My arms get a little workout at times (especially on the tighter turns/corners), but cruising the super slab is a piece of cake. Took a ride to a school parking lot, and in less than 10 minutes my GF was ridding like she owned the place. This is going to make our trek to Rolling Thunder a blast. I'll be on my '03 Sportster and the GF will be on the Venture with her 17 year old grand daughter.... Gotta love it.
  15. Got the bike back today, and I'm STOKED!!!!:cool10::cool10: I expected the ride to be different, but this thing is SMOOTH.... Ya gotta man-handle her a little through the tight turns, but just cruising she is fine. This kit has the newer rubber suspension and the belly bracket as opposed to the belly plate and regular shocks on my buddy's RSTD. The RSTD kit bounces quite a bit 'cause of the skinny tires, so I upgraded to 14" wheels and wider tires. For $85.00 I couldn't pass it up.
  16. Just ordered replacement lenses... Yeee Hawww! Thanks!!!!
  17. Roger that. Thanks. Y'All Ride Safe...
  18. I just went to the site and cannot find replacement lenses. The left lens fell out on the ride to have a Voyager kit put on. Can you send me a link? Thanks... Y'All Ride Safe...
  19. Getting a Voyager Kit installed on my '91 VR and my riding buddy has a Voyager Kit on his '97 RSTD. We both need covers. I've read stuff about the Hannigan covers (Sorta like a Nelson-Riggs????). What's the deal? Will a Hannigan cover fit over bikes with Voyager Kits? Thanks. Y'All ride safe
  20. Finally got the finances squared away (Credit Union took its sweet time moving an IRA to a real bank.... ), so today I made a counter deposit to my local dealer and ordered a Voyager kit for our '91. The kit should ship in the next 3 days or so, and it should get here 2 or 3 days later. That puts us past this weekend, but the installer is already booked, so we have to wait until weekend after next, then its on to Rolling Thunder!!!!! Y'All Ride Safe...
  21. I've had this problem show up on several different brake systems using a MityVac. The problem is air is entering the system via the bleeder screw threads. FWIW and IMHO, using a MityVac to bleed brakes is a waste of time. The ideal solution is to use a pressure bleeder and Speed Bleeders. This made bleeding/flushing my Porsche 944 and 951 brakes a snap. The point here is you want to FORCE fluid through the system so it carries air bubbles out through the bleed screw. With that being said, simply replacing the stock bleed screws with Speed Bleeders will make brake bleeding much easier. http://www.speedbleeder.com/Motorcycle%20Sizes.htm#Yamaha Y'All ride Safe....
  22. You guys rock! The pictures and the link to SuperBrightLeds are priceless... Thanks Loads! Y'All Ride Safe.
  23. I like mine too. Only problem is I don't know who made it. Is your's already installed/mounted? If it isn't, are there any part numbers or manufacturer's codes or names you can see? Thanks..
  24. My '91 VR came with an aftermarket light bar on the trunk. It has amber turn signals on the corners, "tail lights", just inboard, and the center section is a brake light. One of the turn signals burned out, and I thought I could get to the lamps by removing 3 screws from inside the trunk... Yeah, right. As it turns out, the turn signal lens, (and I'm assuming the red lens for the brake and tail lamps) just "pop" out. Apparetly the previous owner used RTV to keep the turn signal lens in place. Question is, does anyone know who made this light bar? I'd like to find more info about how it is mounted and how lamps are changed. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
