cylinder number location
54chevybelair replied to 54chevybelair's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks dingy, thats exactly what I needed. -
I hate to ask this question, but what is the order of my cylinders on a 04 RSV. I'm working on the carburetors and want to make sure the main jets are in the right location. I have found post explaining the main jets are different, but they refer to cylinder 1, 2, 3, 4. Which cylinder is 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. I have been searching and can't find the answer, so I thought I would ask. Thanks.

trailer wiring
54chevybelair replied to 54chevybelair's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The lights on the trailer are just the old standard lights. They are not LED or LCD. -
Thanks for all the replies. I see Diamond R is a more expensive. Does anyone know any differences, they don't have good pictures on their web site. My '04 RSV is a midnight with the non-pillow seat and studs, so I would like the backrest to match. How does the Diamond-R fold down, does it just pivot or does it move forward. I have seen pictures of RSV's with the backrest moved forward almost laying on the front seat, is this the Diamond-R. A friend has the Utopia and he is happy with it. Sorry for the questions, just weighing my options befor purchasing.

My wife finaly road on our new to us 2004 RSV. Our last bike was a GW so I was concerned how she would like this bike. She really enjoyed it and said it was very comfortable. I was planning on adding armrest figuring she would want them because she had them on the GW. To my surprise she liked the bike without them, she likes holding the handles and is very comfortable. She did say she would like me to get a drivers backrest with a storage pouch in the back so she can put stuff in it. That was her only complaint is lack of reachable storage. So I went from needing to buy armrest for her to buying a backrest for me, I'm a lucky man. Now I just need to find out who makes a backrest with a storage pouch.

trailer wiring
54chevybelair replied to 54chevybelair's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Straycatt, atleast I'm not alone. I'm sure I wired everything correctly. I guess I'll just follow in your footsteps and not worry about it. -
Hello everyone, I just finished my trailer wiring. I used a hopkins converter so I could use the brake/turn signal combo on my trailer. Everything seemed to be easy and the trailer lights work fine. Until I use my 4-way flasher, they do not work with the trailer connected. Disconnect the trailer and they work fine. Any Thoughts? The bike is a 2004 RSV.

Thanks for the reply bongobobny, Clearview is one of the companies I am considering. I am short at 5’6” and having a hard time deciding what height shield to get. If my wife didn’t ride with me I would get one I could see over, but she would not like it I’m sure. I may try the Clearview medium, I would still have to look thru it but if it’s as clear as everyone says it may not be a big deal. My goldwing windshield was extremely tall and I never liked it especially during rain.

I bought my 2004 midnight RSV fall of last year. It's a well maintained stock bike just as it left the factory. I knew it would need accessories, but I got a great deal so that didn’t bother me. I found in a thread on this site that someone referred to MotorSportsSuperCenter.com. So I tried it and what a great deal. I received 26% off my order and was able to combine shipping. The retail of my order was $567.65 and I saved $147.61 WOW. I wish I could thank the person that left this tip but I can’t remember the thread I found it in. Also on their web site, you could go to checkout and see the shipping cost without entering any payment info. The only down side was they wanted the entire order at their building to ship in one box, which is why they could offer a combined shipping rate. It took 11 days after the order was placed for UPS to drop it off at my house. Not a big deal for the cash I saved. I was fortunate to find this, so I hope someone looking for parts/accessories reads this and saves some cash. The accessories I order were all genuine Yamaha. Now I have plenty of "Safety Chrome". The only other thing I want is a wider windshield with a vent. Then bring on the sunshine a warm days.

I hope someone can help me. I have a 2004 RSV and I need to wire my gps. I don't have a owners manual. I would like the gps to have power only while the key is "on". Where is the best place to run the wires. Thanks.

I was hoping someone could clear this up for me. I am new to Venture motorcycles, My last bike was a Goldwing and now I own a 2004 midnight RSV. I have read a lot of the back and forth talk about Harley VS. Goldwing Vs. Venture. In my opinion they are all great machines in there own way, offering different variety for people. I can go to a Harley dealership and look at a selection of touring bikes, or the Honda dealers always have a few Goldwings in stock. Why can’t I go to a Yamaha dealer and look at a new Venture. Is the demand higher than supply? My local dealer tells me he rarely gets them in but when he does, new or used, they don’t stay on the showroom floor long. It seems to me if we like them so much, Japan would supply us more of them. Anyhow, thanks for your time in reading this and maybe someone can shed some light on this for me.

Passenger Wind Issues
54chevybelair replied to DanOh's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
thanks for this thread. i am also in the market for a new windshield and considering the clear view. I'm only 5'6" tall so I may get the medium shield that is 3" shorter. My last bike was a goldwing and I never liked the realy tall windshield, but i did like the vent. my wife and frequent passenger is a little shorter than me so I hope the shorter shield will be ok. I still wont be able to see over it but if I get one that short im afraid she will get to much wind. the shield in your picture looks great very clear.- 40 replies

i was planning on installing armrest for my wife on our 2004 rsv, but i have the oportunity to by a yamaha made wrap around back rest. it appears to replace the original backrest. what is your passengers opinions would they rather have the backrest or armrest. our last bike was a gl1500 with armrest and my wife enjoyed that. the wrap around backrest has been discontinued but some still have it in stock. what would my wife be most comfortable with. thanks for your opinion.

this is what I found under my tree. O.K. maybe not, but this is the first Christmas with my son and that is far better than any gift that I could recieve.

Thanks for this Squidley. I also am thankful to Jesus Christ for what he has done for me and my family. My wife and I were hit by a truck this year on our GW, she was 30 weeks pregnant. Jesus had his hand on us that day, as we had minimal injury and 11/07/10 we delivered my son perfectly healthy. This is my first Christmas as a father, what a wonderful blessing.

Thanks for all the replies. Rick I don't have a facebook account but I was able to see your bike on your personal page on this site and I was impressed. I like that champion sidecar but was unsure how it would look on our bikes. Yours looks great. Steve I think I seen your bike on Craigslist recently or at least one that looks like yours. My wife will only ride on the back with me (not her own) and we really enjoy riding. We usually take a couple trips a year and ride most weekends. We also participate in many charity rides. I know that adding a sidecar will take some of the fun out of riding, but having my son with us will be priceless. I’ve read both sides of people’s opinions on whether a RSV can handle a sidecar. For those of you that have or had a 2nd gen RSV/sidecar what do you think? Does Champion make a mounting kit for our bikes or did you have to make custom mounts? Thanks
-
I'm considering adding a sidecar to my 2004 RSV so my son can ride with us. Does anyone have experience with sidecars and a 2nd gen RSV. If someone has pictures that would be great. Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.

2nd gen RSV passenger arm rest
54chevybelair replied to 54chevybelair's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks for the replies everyone. When we had our Goldwing my wife also fell asleep often. She would wake up when her helmet hit the back of my helmet. She has not road the RSV yet but after being spoiled on the Goldwing I know she is going to want them. I just put the RSV away for winter so I have a few months to decide what to do. Diamond R's do look nice but mounting to a round bar does concern me. Does anyone have any ideas where I can buy just the pads and maybe fabricate my own? -
Hello, I recently purchased a 2004 RSV. My last bike was a Goldwing and my wife had arm rest on the back and she realy enjoyed them. She would like them on our RSV but I can't find many choices. Is Diamond R the only ones that makes them? If, so those of you that have them are you and your passengers happy with them? Thanks

V7Goose, I agree with you on cleaning the carbs just because it has been sitting. I have a manual to follow that should help. Is a carb rebuild kit available or do I just buy the parts I need (or find bad) from the local Yamaha dealer? -

I do remember when I blurped the throtle during the carb sync it took about 10 seconds for the gauge to stabilize. -

V7Goose- I only checked it at idle, sorry. After 500 miles mostly with seafoam in the tank my left rear plug was black and that was before the resistors came out. I don't know the history on the bike but the engine sounds good untill under a load. It is also completely stock. -
