  1. I like Tin Cup for my mixed drinks. Woodford, Knob Creek small, Bulleit Rye or Regular are all fine to me for sippin!
  2. Understand about the wife, luckily mine loves going on the bike. We were on an 800 mile weekend trip and she started complaining about her back. So, I took the liberty to get a "more comfortable" new bike. It has been, but still look at RSTD's on Ebay and think what if. As for the whine, they both had it. I am on synthetic oil and it does not seem as bad. Hope this helps.
  3. Had both, 09 RSTD and now ride a 12 RSV. I enjoyed the RSTD more than the Venture, not that there is anything wrong with the Venture. The Venture is more comfortable for my wife. So, now you know why I have the Venture. I put 47k on the RSTD and now have 37K on the Venture, so the sample size is pretty adequate. It may have been my mindset, but I always felt the RSTD was just sportier and the look was more flexible. Both are great bikes.
  4. A year and a half ago, I had the left rear cylinder head leaking oil. Took it in, had it fixed all under warranty. This year, same head is leaking oil and some coolant. So, overheating too. Took it in, again under warranty. They kept it for two months, went round with yamaha on what to do, yada yada yada. They fixed it. Now I am sure I have a gear issue. Not a clutch issue, because it works. Riding home yesterday with my wife and in a 15 mile stretch the shifter changed to the odd position it is in now. All the linkage is very tight. Took it out for a ride just now. Becoming very hard to shift and the shifter is tilting farther down on the heel side. So, yes it will have to go back. More Warranty work? Had a Tour Deluxe before this, loved it. Loved the engine and the bike. My wife wanted more creature comforts so I bought this in 2013 and it has not been very reliable. Just disenchanted with the whole situation. Missed out on a whole lot of really good riding weather this year(especially for TEXAS!) Oh well.......
  5. Just got my bike out of the dealership after two months of yamaha trying to decide how to fix a leaky cylinder head. Drive it for 3 days and the shifter is now tilted out of whack with the heel part below the floorboards and toe part sticking up at an odd angle. I am just not that much of a whiz with clutch/transmission issues on anything so help! It still shifts and runs, but obviously feels odd. Oh yeah, the bike I am talking about is a 2012 Venture. So, any insight is appreciated. Please just don't make fun of me! thanks in advance.
  6. Oark General Store in Oark, Arkansas. Wife and I showed up around lunch on one our trips. Walked in, Cook line and groceries to the left and Dry Goods to the right. Seating for eating in the center of the store. We ordered our food and a dude sat down in the center of the store with a banjo and started strumming out Flatt and Scruggs while his daughter(about 8) danced around him. At that point, my wife looked at me and asked "Where did you find this place?". The food was good, but the atmosphere really made it an experience I will never forget(and I am not an atmosphere guy). Really topped off that venture into Arkansas!
  7. Hi, I have lived in Northeast Texas most of my life. The weather that time of year can really be very unpredictable. The range of temperature can go from freezing to the upper 80s. Last year we had snow on March 1st, but that is a verrrry unusual occurrence. This year is currently running warm. I went for a ride today as matter of fact. I can suggest a couple of places that I consider nice areas to ride. The Palo Pinto Mountains WNW of Fort Worth in the area of Mineral Wells and Graham also Possum Kingdom Lake is in that area. Glen Rose to the south has some nice foothill areas to ride in as well as a Dinosaur track State Park. Those are some suggestions that are a lot closer than the Texas Hill Country west of San Antonio, however that area really does have some of the best motorcycle roads in the State along with plenty of wineries and cool small towns. It will just take alot longer to get there. I hope you enjoy your time here.
  8. Bought a 2008 Tour de Luxe brand new and put 45K miles on it, then turned it in on a 2012 Midnight Venture S. I have 8K miles on it. I have new tires and an oil change so it is ready for some decent weather. Should be able to put about 10K miles on it this riding season. Love the bikes, still wish I had the Tour.
  9. You must go to Oark general store in Oark Arkansas. Great motorcycle stop and some good people to boot. It is between the pig trail and hwy 7. Both are great roads. Also, I understand that push mountain is a can't miss. Was there in '11, it was a really great trip! Enjoy!
  10. I don't say much too often, but my dealer had a FJR1300 in for test rides. So, I said why not! It was a fine machine with lots of new technology. It was also scary fast as I would imagine the concours is also. These where the issues I had with that kind of bike. Riding position.......to much over the tank and my feet under me. On a trip last summer, my wife and I knocked out two 600 mile days, do not know if I can handle that for a ride like that. Also, I prefer a half helmet. When I hit 95 on the darn thing my helmet almost choked me:rotf:. And the final nail is.....my wife would not ride with me any more based on how my driving would change. However, I will give the bike its due, because it was reallllly fun to ride. I just can't afford a fun bike like that and keep my tour deluxe.. my 2 cents. Do what you think is best and enjoy the heck out of it!!!!!
  11. I am so sorry for you and your family. We lost my father to cancer in 1981. I will be praying for you and your family and hope for the best possible outcome. Cherish the time left and enjoy your family.
  12. Rocky Mountain ATV/MC no complaints and they ship fast.
  13. My wife and I have already booked a cabin in Petit Jean on June 1 and 2. We are really looking forward to it and plan on doing Push mountain and 123. Any other suggestions are really appreciated. Really can't wait! jld1960tx
  14. Hey man, don't live there now, but lived there for about seven years. My wife and In-laws are from there. Victoria is my opinion of the perfect sized town. It has alot of the shopping that is in most places and is easy to get from one side of the place to the other. Houston is about a hundred miles away which opens up a whole bag of stuff to do. The coast is about 35 miles away, but is not really a pretty part of the coast, the best coast is about 95 miles away in Corpus Christi-Port Aransas area. Generally, a pretty economic place to live. I hope you like flat land, because the only hills are overpasses on the hiway!
  15. Hey Guys, My wife and I are going on a road trip next weekend from East Texas to Vicksburg then Natchez and back home. I was wondering if anyone could give some suggestions on sights to see that we would not see otherwise. I plan on doing the military park in Vicksburg and catching the Natchez Trace on the way to Natchez. Also, I plan on passing through Nachitoches on the way back. So, fire away suggestions because all are appreciated. Thanks. Jeff
  16. The University of Texas Longhorns! and whatever team is playing OU or aTm!
  17. Wow, my wife and I were going to Colorado on that same road a month ago. We turned at Snyder and almost got to Post. We were going to run into a wall of rain and lightning. We turned around and spent the night till it passed. Colorado is a great trip, however the rain really pushed us off our path. It worked out though, we just really do not like riding in rain. I am glad you came out in relatively good shape, one year ago I had a similar accident, that was when I got my RSTD!
  18. Appreciate the advice, I will pursue those options before some of our big summer trips. thanks
  19. I have been lurking on the forum for sometime picking up info on various things. However, I have a question and need some help with the answer. I have a 2009 RSTD and my wife and I like to wear half helmets. What are my options for audio between the two of us. I am not really interested in cb, radio or cd. I would just like to be able to talk while going down the road. Thanks for any help in advance.
