  1. Have been following this and think their assessment may be flawed. Sounds like they tracked cell phone locations of those that went and crossed that to areas that have recent flare-ups. They then go on to blame the flare-up on the folks coming back from Sturgis. Would be interested to see a similar study tracking location data for those that are protesting/rioting to see if there's a similar correlation.

    VPN info

IMHO...that GearsHDTV sounds like they pirate broadcasts and redistribute them across their own servers. That's probably why they're requiring you to have a VPN for their service, so that they don't get caught for violating FTC regulations on unauthorized rebroadcasting. There are plenty of other affordable options for streaming that don't involve the encouragement of pirating. If you have Amazon prime you already have access to their Prime Video streaming service included. Also, since you're already planning on splitting the cost with your son, services like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube TV, etc allow for multiple connections per account which could also help mitigate the cost of those legitimate service providers. Just my $0.02...
  3. I drive an '06 Titan and love it. Bought it to pull my camper and what a beast. The 5.6 pulls like a freight train and with the right exhaust it sounds pretty good too. Being Nissan's first generation of full-size truck it had some issues (leaking axles, cracking exhaust manifolds) but nothing that left me stranded. Had the axle replaced under warranty and put headers & a new exhaust to fix the manifolds and that really woke her up! The motor/transmission is very stout and pretty rock-solid. The current version has beefier axles that were a know weakness on the 1st gen and the newer 6-speed transmissions help with the fuel economy a bit. I feel that being a perceived underdog in one of the most competitive and brand loyal markets, the Titan offers the best bang for the buck for those that are in the know and willing to give it a chance.
  4. I recently switched from a FireTV Stick to a Roku Streaming Stick+. It does come with some apps/channels pre-installed but I just removed them and added the things I use (Prime Videos, YouTube TV, Plexus) and it seems to work fine for me. I get what you're saying about the forced trailers on Prime, but there's usually a skip option to bypass them. I don't watch too much on there but do enjoy some of the shows they offer (Grand Tour). I figure since I'm already paying the subscription for the other Prime benefits I might as well keep it as a viewing option even if I don't use it much. As for other apps/services for the Roku, there's tons available. Some are free/sponsored and others are subscription based like Netflix. You'll have to do your homework to figure out what best fits your budget & needs and what nuances each may have that you're willing or not to tolerate.
  5. I've seen those on Ebay/Amazon too. My only concern with those that I've found had been that the lens seems to be plastic/polycarbonate rather than glass. I'd be worried about yellowing and scratches over time. They do look sharp though!
  6. I had an '07 and absolutely loved it. I'm sure you've already found it but the volusiariders forum is similar to this site with a great wealth of information and ideas for cheap mods that can easily be done to it. Be sure to throw up some pics when you get it and enjoy the heck out of it!!
  7. I drive an '06 Titan and love it. Being Nissan's first crack at a full-size truck there were some growing pains, but by and large I've been quite pleased with it. Most of the quirks can be addressed and/or serviced on your own and there's a wonder forum full of fantastic members offering TONS of useful information (www.titantalk.com) which can help save on the maintenance costs. I'd like to believe that on this go-around that they've overcome these issues and a 5/100k warranty would definitely ease someone who might be nervous about it. My only concern would the the miles you put on the vehicle as that 5.6L V8 is a thirsty one for sure. I know the new ones have a 7sp vs my 5sp transmission, and the newer 5.6 is direct injected vs my port injection, but you will spend quite a bit of time at the gas pumps with that. That, and the wonderful growl of that big V8 will have you pressing the go-pedal way more than you know you should be. I know we shouldn't really look at MPG when shopping full-sized trucks (if MPG is a concern get a small car/compact truck), but the thirsty motor plus a relatively small tank mean lots of gas station visits.
  8. Had a similar issue with our Chrysler Pacifica van. For us the fix was to first pair the phone then, with the van still on (accessory mode) reboot the phone. When the phone came back up the UConnect in the van would read & display the text messages.
  9. I don't think he actually has an '18 Venture but rather just doing some pre-purchase due-diligence in researching cost to own and such.
  10. The wife & I wear Scorpion EXO-100 half-helmets. Looks like they updated them and now call them EXO-C110 with added vents for airflow. We ordered darker visors to help with the sun. http://scorpionusa.com/products/helmets/street-helmets/exoc110.html
  11. Honorably discharged from the Army in the summer of '93 and began classes that fall. Joined the local Nat'l Guard unit at the same time and between the state paying 1/2 of the tuition and the GI Bill, I was able to earn my BA from the University of Iowa without a debt burden.
  12. Over on the delphi forums they mention that this is pretty much a direct swap. Linky
  13. I think the Subaru manual addresses this and states something along the lines that yes, all 4 tires should be replaced in this situation. The AWD system spins the wheels at the same rate so that it knows that when 1 or more wheels are spinning faster, they are slipping and the transfer case engages to re-direct power. Replacing 1 tire throws this out of sync and can overwork the xfer case. A cheaper option might be to find 4 used tires or to have the new tire shaved down to the approximate diameter of the other 3.

  15. Not sure if you're committed to getting a Ford, but if you're open to options I'd give the Tundra or Titan a close look. I have a Titan that I tow a 26ft travel trailer all over the place with ease. I have the crew cab but they are offered in an extended cab too. Being that they're not as popular as the Tundras or F150's I'd bet you could get one heck of a deal on a 2012 holdover.

  17. I'm curious how this DOESN'T affect the towing capacity of the truck as you're basically replacing a hard-point on the truck (shackle) with one that now flexes. Seems like softening up the ride like that would just make towing anything substantial a white knuckle experience by allowing more bounce and possibly sway.
  18. Thanks guys. I had priced IC Motorsports and thought they were WAY expensive too. I'll give Don's Honda a call and see what they can do for me.
  19. Time to replace those brickstones that came on my TD. Anyone near the Iowa City area have the equipment and knowledge to mount a new set or is the dealership my only option around here?
  20. I've been tinkering with the idea of doing this too. Here's what I found on the delphi forum. Sounds pretty easy with minimal additional parts needed. Good luck and don't forget pics of the finished product. Linky
  21. If you're budget conscious I'd definitely give the butler mod a try first. If not afraid to spend some $$ then Ultimate or Russell Day-Long seats are a popular option. The Russell seats may offer you a more customized fit than the Ultimate as they take into account your measurements and riding position when constructing your seat.
  22. For those up for a road trip, Gina's here in Iowa City is going to have 8 K1600GT's & 8 of the GTL's for their spring open house...Linky
  23. 2008 may still be under warranty. Take it back to the dealer and have them fix it.
  24. I could head down your way with my carbtune if you don't mind waiting until next weekend.
  25. I have an Ultimate Seat on my RSTD. Only thing to keep in mind is that they don't wrap the foam in plastic to waterproof so it will soak up water through the stitching unless you cover them when washing or riding in the rain. Other than that I have no gripes and even more important the boss likes the pillion.
