  1. Its more leverage than horsepower. Just stand on the tab off the center stand pull up on the bike with the handle by the seat with your right hand and push down at the same time with your right leg. I use my left hand to balance the bike with the handlebar. It pops right up. rjjammer
  2. May we all remember what sacrifices our military are making, and say thank you to one of them if you see them out and about, and make sure we all thank them during the entire year. Christmas Poem TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY THE MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, 'SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.' THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, 'CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.' ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. 'MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,! AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.' This poem was written by a Marine. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable..... PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men, women, and Canadian Forces for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed. Robert Rahn Afghanistan Police Mission Kabul Afghanistan rjjammer
  3. Ok I have to comment, ....When I am home.... I love snow, when it finally arrives I park the Venture, cover it up and tuck it in. It loves the heated garage. Then I take the three Yamaha snowmobiles out of their cozy summer corner and fire them up. I get to run the truck with the plow and even tear up the drive way with the Grizzly. Cant get any better! No snow in Wisconsin? Say it isn't so! I will be back in the US in a week. Pray for at least a foot! rjjammer
  4. I am here in Afghanistan and I work directly with our Military, the way mentioned in the post is good, and they are honest. If anyone on this forum has someone serving here and knows the region they are in I can get and supply the address for a direct shipment. Happy Holidays rjjammer
  5. WHO? Never heard of them..... Of course if its not Packer Football it isn't football. :rotf::rotf::rotf:
  6. I dont post often, but its not because I'm shy... I just haven't had the ability to get on the net very often, until just recently that is. Now I log on daily from here and make more plans to upgrade my "finished VR" Right now at home there are several boxes with more parts.... Someone told me a while ago that I would never "finish my ride" They don't know how right they were. Almost everything done to this ride, i got the idea or the information I needed from this forum. Brief history of my 1986 Venture Royale I purchased this from a younger kid in 2000. The bike had 36,000 miles on it and ran fine but was beat up from being dropped and abused. Since then I have completely stripped it down to the frame, set valves, replaced and rebuilt the carbs, polished and cleaned and painted the engine parts. Replaced Chrome Removed the fuel tank and had it lined. replaced tires and brakes, rebuilt the master cylinders. Repaired various wiring cass system, and re soldered the computer in the dash. Added Jardine pipes. Added a gel battery. Replaced a lot of the plastic and repaired the rest. Repainted it in its current colors. I thought I was done.... I am gone a lot and this took several years to complete. Then I started reading here. Now sitting at home are the parts to upgrade the fuse box, progressive springs for the forks along with the upgrade fork brace. I purchased a new aftermarket CDI to install. I plan to upgrade the starter and cables. I am sure there is more I will find to do. Someday I may even get the chance to ride this thing. I think in the last two years it has about 18 miles put on it. Anyway, the reason for this post. THANK YOU! to everyone that helped even though you didn't realize it most of the time.!!! rjjammer
  7. Mike My wife has dealt with this since 2008 when she had the same symptoms as your daughter. Christmas Eve 2008 her jaw locked up! After several procedures, a couple not so good encounters with doctors, she has found some relief with braces, splints and weekly tens treatments. Insurance stopped paying after a 1000 dollar lifetime cap was reached. Its been a long haul for her. With no end in sight yet. I wish your daughter the best and perhaps her age will help her to recover quicker.
  8. Thanks for all the good advice. Ill have to try that, sometime in June when I get back home. Hopefully Ill be able to get a ride or two in this year. Rob

  10. The air mixture screws on the front of the carbs right below the Diaphragm covers. These are the screws that are recessed. From the factory they have caps on them to prevent adjustment. I have some spare carbs and air mixture screws if I can remove the seized ones without damaging the carb bodies. Thing is that I wont be able to touch it again until the end of June. I work overseas and have to head out Wednesday. I wont be able to take leave until then. I would be interested in finding a rebuilt or good set of carbs I can jsut install and adjust. Rob
  11. Maybe someone here can help. Does anyone here know how to remove stripped and seized air screws on the venture carbs? I have had a lot of trouble with my carbs and found a decent set of used ones. I cleaned them up replaced the needle and seats, new slides and diaphragms, as I was getting ready to re install them I saw the air screws had the heads stripped off and they wont move, I want to see if I can fix these any suggestions? Thanks Rob
  12. Yes it is like building a new one. I only got a shake down cruise in, 21 flawless miles. I have to leave today to go back to the sandbox. (Afghanistan) 41 more days and Ill be home, hopefully for good. Next summer I hope to shut the bike off only for oil changes! Ill post more pics when I get back to my FOB...
  13. Well after a few years I have finished it. I bought this in 2000, and its been a work in progress ever since. 86 Royale with 39,000 miles. Its was mechanically sound but had been abused and laid down several times. After lots of ebay and a donor bike this is the result. Thanks to everyone for the information and help in the tech sections. Robhttp://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=49172&d=1282237849
  14. Putting your bike away for the winter is not such a bad thing, I just put mine away for the year! I never did get to finish painting mine so I didnt get to ride it once in 2008. Now Im back in Afghanistan and wont see my bike untill late in 2010. Here is my thought, cherish what you have, enjoy every moment. someone always has it better than you and many more have it worse. Later my VR friends,
  15. I have all the hoses and things for your conversion, off a 1983 standard VR are you still looking?

    Thanks

Just wanted to thank everyone that has submitted posts on repairs and problems with thier first generation VR. I have never used a forum before so this is all new.The articles helped to shake off the dust on my mechanical skills and the 86 is running fine. The poor thing sat for 4 years while I was overseas, and had developed major brake and carb issues. I am currently in the process of painting it and have all good platic ready for preping, unfortunately I am again going over the pond and I doubt it will get finished this year. I have a 1983 Venture Standard minus the plastic and carbs does anyone need anything off of it? rjjammer
