Handle bar wobble with no hands...
texasrices replied to bugfish69's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Front end wobble has happened to me twice since owning this bike. The first time it happened, I almost messed my pants, if you know what I mean!?! Both times it happened when the tire was almost gone. New tire = no problems  -
Lord... Hear our prayers for this good man!!!

Dumb tire question
texasrices replied to Yamaman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a Dunlop on the front and an Avon on the rear and have had NO problems as far as stability or handing at all. I see no sense in spending good money to replace a tire that is not worn out, just to keep them as a matched set. Find the best deal out there and put them on. :thumbsup2: -
I ride with ear plugs all the time. Of course there is a little speaker in them and they are attached to an I-pod and its cranked up. That's OK isn't it??!!??:stirthepot::cool10:

Went out for breakfast and sat out on the patio overlooking Galveston Bay. After that we headed on out down through Galvestons west end, over San Luis Pass and onto Freeport. Tried to get lost in Danbury and made for home. After getting home and riding over 150 miles, I was ready for a beer. Bright sun, 70 something degrees, wind in our faces. Does it get any better than that??? Oh yeah....and its January.

Spark Plug Question
texasrices replied to TrainMaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I change my plugs every 8k miles, though like most here, I don't see why. What are your thoughts on standard plugs versus iridium plugs?- 18 replies

No I'm lucky in that sense. No problem with the chrome. I have a leak on both sides, right at the Y. I had been having a problem with de-acceleration popping for awhile. I noticed that lately it had been getting worse so I checked it out and sure enough. I also have used JB Weld in the past. I thought it might work, but I needed some re-assurance. Thanks!!!

I read sometime back that someone here had used JB weld to correct an exhaust leak. I thought maybe it was Freebird or V7Goose, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know who used JB Weld and more important, did it actually work?

About two years ago, I upgraded my seat to a Mustang. Unfortunetly, I didn't order the one with the backrest. Now here I am wanting the backrest, but don't want to buy a whole new seat. Does anyone know how to add a backrest to a Mustang, or know of anyone who can? Mustang cannot add it on. I have to spend $700.00 for a new seat. Or better yet...knowing the ingenious members we have here, does anyone have any other possible homemade solutions? My back thanks you!

Can you jump a dead bike battery with a car battery?

I was going to order some new OEM spark plug caps for around $110.00. My dealer showed me some NGK caps that are hard plastic and only cost $5.00 each. Using fuzzy math, I could replace these 5 times for the price of the OEMs. Has anyone actually used these caps and found them good or bad? Using the old adage, "you get what you pay for" I am a little leary. Thanks in advance!

When cruising down the road, everything sounds and feels great, until I get to 70 MPH. From 70 mph to 80 mph it feels like the bike is beating itself to death. Over 80 mph it smooths right out. Put in a tankful of Seafoam, changed the spark plugs and wire caps. Changed the oil and filter and synced the carbs. Replaced the fuel filter last year. The only solution I can think of is it probably needs a valve adjustment. According to the manual, it should have been done at 26K and I have just over 31K on the bike. Does this sound right? In reading the manual it is a job that I don't think I can handle by myself. Any and all suggestions appreciated!! :confused24: :confused24:

I ordered an Avon rear tire on 4/25/07 and I received it TODAY, 4/27/07. I ordered it from www.ridenow.com. I think that is very fast service as I was expecting 5-7 days. Also, I shopped several websites for the best price and their price was $110.17 plus tax & shipping. Total $127.01. Just thought you might like to know!!!

ignition question
texasrices replied to texasrices's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I'm not convinced that I need to replace the coil at all. I think I just need to replace the spark plug caps. Last year when I changed the spark plugs, the caps looked pretty used up. But I can't find anyone who can give me a straight answer, does it all come in one piece or is it two separate parts. All I need are the caps.- 4 replies

I am looking in my manual and online for spark plug wires/caps. In talking to the dealer ( Uh oh, bad word) they are telling me that the wires, caps and coils are one piece. But, it looks to me that they are two distinct parts. Am I right, and the dealer is trying to rip me off? And If they are two separate parts, how do they connect? I just replaced my old Metzler 880s and was told that I could expect approx, 8000 - 10,000 miles for a set of tires now days. The guy at the dealers jaw dropped when I told him that I had 16,000 on mine. Hence the question... how many miles do you average on a set of tires, and on what brand of tire?
