  1. I just wanted to say thanks again for all your help here. I am pricing out the E3's and seeing what I can do... It's really crappy that none of the local places will install tires unless you purchase them from them.. I found the E3 for $200 a set on line delivered to the door!! Local dealers want $190+ mount and balance for just the rear.... rrrrrrrrrrrr:bang head:
  2. Yamadude, Thanks for the continued posts.. I wasn't sure which posts of mine you were referring too... Now that I am clear it makes sense.. The 404 was just a past experience and not something i was actually looking for here. As the post started out, I was looking at the Avon and Metzler.. However I am now considering the E3. With all your help I am hoping to find the best handling, best mileage tire I can.. That is why I always come here! It is amazing all the knowledge and real life experience everyone has... Thanks again!
  3. Please explain what you mean? The more you can all teach me the better choice I feel I can make..
  4. Freebird, Thank you for the info. I got just over 11,000-12,000 on rear my OEM Bridgestones..... So I put them back on. To my huge disappointment I got 2,500 on the next rear, and it was almost dead. After working with the dealer and Bridgestone, Bridgestone offered to replace the tire and I only had to cover the mounting. So, needless to say I put another back on and here i am about 4.000 miles later with another almost bald tire. So with that said, I guess I am a bit gun shy about the next tire I put on. I know I ride a little harder than others and that will account for some of the wear, but I am going broke from the replacements! LOL
  5. Freebird, What are the mileages like on the other two that you have recommended? I have used Dunlop 404 in the past on another bike and was very disappointed in them.. I realize these are different tires, but wonder if they wear the same?? compound and such!
  6. OK, so the polling has started. Thanks so much for the information. I have been following the posts on here and that is where I came up with the two choices.. Depending on the numbers I may have to reconsider a few more. Just a quick note on the Avons, there is a mail in rebate from 4/1-5/31 for $25 on each tire! In case you are going to purchase new ones! BTW, not sure why my Title say "on Metzler M880 Vs. Avon Venom" Supposed to say "Poll on........
  7. I would like to get a quick poll on the Metzler M880 and the Avon Venom. I have narrowed my choices to these tires and would like to get a count of how many use each. I know everyone has a favorite for different reasons, but since lots of you have used either one or both of these I would get some numbers on which you prefer. If you are interested in helping me make a decision and simple M or A would be great in your response. If you would also like to say the mileage you have gotten from the tire you selected that would also be helpful. Please just note whether it was a front or a rear. Thanks for all the info so far and everyone's help... JM:bagpipes-emoticon:
  8. Thanks so much for all the input. I certainly feel much better having this information. Now if I could just get all of you to agree on "One" brand of tires that are the best of the best that would be great... LOL It really seems to be between Avons, M880, and Elite....... I'm not really overly interested in white walls..... So I can be a bit more open... Thanks again everyone.... I can say that is the best $12 I have ever spent... :-)
  9. Ok so the real question is, can you run two different brand/tread pattern tires on the front and rear... The main reason I am asking is because I am thinking of switching to a M880 and I currently have a Bridgestone on the front. The Bridgestone still has about 1/2 the life left in it.. I have heard mixed stories about traction, handling, and well all out safety..... Some stories I hear is that it's fine to do, and others are just NEVER do that!!! What do you all think... Thanks JM
  10. Sounds like a great deal of work Tom. Let me know how you make out as I am always interested in doing things myself. Maybe a Maintenance day or weekend can be set up so that I can gain some knowledge and tackle some of these items myself!
  11. OK, I have been following the threads on here about tires for some time.. It is time for me to replace my tires again.. I have a 2009 RSV and have run the stock brand of tires since I purchased the bike in March of 09... I currently have about 18,000 miles on the bike.. On the first set of Bridgestones, I got about 12,000 miles on the rear and 14,000 miles on the front.. Replaced with same stock tires since I felt I got pretty decent mileage from them. However you all seem to be getting much better than that. So about 2000 miles later the rear was smooth..... I contacted Bridgestone and so did the dealer and they replaced the rear for free. Well here I am again about 4,000 miles later and back to a tire with about 1,000 miles left to it.. My brother has had great success with M880 on his small Harley and i thought about them for mine.. However your posts are concerning me. I know I probably drive hard.. Fast, good leaning in the turns, and mostly 1up riding..... So I am looking for the best tire for mileage and performance, without breaking my bank... What does a guy do?????? Prior to all these posts I was pretty set on the M880's but now am concerned.. I also notice some of you mention different sizes????? The other question I seem to fail to find a definite answer for is.... Can you use two different brands/patterns from the front to the rear? Like a Bridgestone front and a M880 rear?? My front tire is still in decent condition, do you have to run a match set? I'm not trying to be a cheap ass, but money is tight.. However I want the best I can get for my money.... Not to mention, it is the only two tires under me and want to make sure I am as safe as possible... Anything further teaching from you all would be great.... I have 2 trips planned shortly and need to make the decision soon about the tires.. JM:bagpipes-emoticon:
  12. Looks great. Is it safe in the rainy weather?
  13. Thanks for the update Tom. I think I will be out for this one. But please keep me posted as I do plan on coming out one of these days.. Looking into the second job thing and it is going to really cut into my time..
  14. If and when you have another ride scheduled, please drop me a line. I would like to get out and meet a few of you all from here. I'm in Oneonta, NY so I will have to just leave early! JM:bagpipes-emoticon:
  15. OK, now how do I add it to my profile page?? I know I feel silly asking such questions....
  16. Where do I find the US map you all have on your profile? I would like to mark the states I have ridden in as well. Thanks JM:bagpipes-emoticon:
  17. Thank you very much for all the info.. I find it hard to see the lights during the day and was hoping to increase the output just a little with the LED's... I will be new to actually doing this type of swap out so all of your ideas will be well thought through before I actually make the attempt... Thanks again for your replies.... JM
  18. Has anyone replaced the indicator/dash lights with LED's??
  19. Thanks once again to everyone that has responded. I have mounted these pipes and can not say that i honestly like the sound. I did try to drill out the cat but it was not working and just from the sound on the other side I think I will look for the correct ones, or even another brand. Thanks again everyone. It is great to have such a huge knowledge base out there! JM....... Always smilin when I'm ridin!
  20. Thank you everyone from your responses.. I will be trying these sugguestion very shortly... I still can't get over the copper penny one, but I can't wait to try... Thansk again JM
  21. The left pipe when looking from the rear of the bike is easy to do. There is only one small part to break through.. It is the right side pipe that I am confused with. This pipe is MUCH heavier than the other and seems to be completely solid inside. There seems to be a lot more metal and the inside pipe does not seem to have a solid plate. I am not able to see through it or even see the transmission of light through it.
  22. This is probably going to pretty dumb, but I will ask anyway........ Is there a simple way to find the threads I have posted to see the replies without searching up and down all the posts that have been made for each day? I know I will get a a bunch of razzing with this, so I am preparing as I type...
  23. Thanks. I will try that next. I was using the tip of my fingernail but noticed even that was leaving marks in the chrome..
  24. I am having a really hard time cleaning off the tar from a set of HD mufflers I have purchased to put on my RSV. I have used the following products with little to no effect. WD-40 Chrome Polish (Mothers and Turtle Wax) Never Dull Tar and Bug Remover and even GAS.... What am I missing here?? There has to be a way to do this and get the results....
  25. I have recently purchased the harley mufflers to complete the exhaust mod for my RSV. From the posts I have seen, the baffle drill out is to be done with a 1 1/8" hole saw. My question is, is this the correct size? The pipe coming from the center of the muffler is closer to 1 5/8"... I also notice looking down the pipe from the tail end, that one pipe has a "wavey" baffle that does not complete a solid plate, while the other muffler has an area that looks like 4 parts coming together. Can someone help clue me in here so that i perform this correctly.. I am also curious if there are any changes that will need to be made to the carbs...
