Guess I'll revive an older thread with a question that is somewhat related. I pulled my tire and had a new one mounted today. When taking the old tire off I noticed the nut on the gear side was fairly loose....okay. I installed the new tire and remounted and noticed if I torqued the nut down it would actually stop the tire from spinning....this seems real strage to me. I had to back it off. There are no parts missing or left off. Is this normal?

I'll be darned...the exact same spot we had our picture taken in Lukenbach a month or so ago...

Me posting a picture is akin to the average person climbing Mt Hood.....if you catch my drift....

Sorry for not answering sooner. I have been running. The "gash" is maybe 1" long. It is on the sidewall proper. It does say 3 ply sidewall. I can pull the rubber back with a pick but it's real hard to tell exactly how deep it is. 3/16" is my best guess. I had it on the lift and may just pull the tire to get a real good look at it. Thanks for the responses. especially fond of the carnage and messy cleanup post. Always entertaining first thing in the morning:moon:

I really (secretly) know that but I keep thinking I can get rid of the wife....but I kinda like me too! Of course I'm still waitng for the tire expert to say "heck no, it's fine." I guess I can look at the bright side and get to try the C.T. sitting in my shop a little sooner.....

I had contacted him about a hitch a month or two ago and never heard back?

I had the bike on the lift to do some repairs and noticed a small 3/16" deep slice/gash in the sidewall. of my Elite II. I recently replaced a virtually new Avon due to a nail that friends convinced me to replace... Dang, this is getting old. It says the sidewall is 3 plies. Still lots of tread on this sucker. I know I should probably replace it and be safe but are the wife and I really worth the expense? I'm in a dither with this......thoughts!

high pitched sound at ~60 mph

I'll second that. Had an emergency road trip tire change and could only get a 404m (rear)......3200 miles later I had to buy new. Too light a tire for sure. -
Ohhh, our youngest will be off to college and we will be free birds.... I agree with at least 4 days. There is a lot to see and do. Really a cool place. Thanks for your efforts Tom, I for one will be watching and planning.

I sure would be interested in a trip out there? Any thoughts on possible dates? I have hiked and biked out there a number of times and always find the area fascinating. The wife has missed all previous trips but seems eager to make one soon. We sure would consider a trip out there!!

Fork wind deflectors

I'll be darned. We did travel right through Blanco and down the River Road towards Lukenbach. Will keep a visit in mind for the next trip. -
Fork wind deflectors

Oddly enough, mine broke about a year ago. I have ridden without them since. Tomorrow I head to the 3 sisters for a ride with the newly repaired (at last) deflectors which I put on tonight. I will be curious to feel the difference after so long without them. -
Steering Problem

Yeh, I am gonna suck it up and pay the $'s....like you, I don't have a lot of faith in the dealerships.....they swore they will have the bike ready for my trip. Maybe they'll give me a loaner if they don't:icon_smile_question -

Great info and many thanks to you all. Heres my big question...a week from Thursday we have planned a long awaited trip with my brother and son to west Texas. Does anyone see a "real" concern with taking the bike on this trip? I don't see being able to get the work done by then. -
Steering Problem

Tire seems fine. I will take a closer look. Is bearings the big messy and rotten job I have heard about? Ouch.....not liking the sounds of this. -
I couldn't find anything on this in the searches I did....so here goes. I have noticed at slow speeds where my steering lightly locks. It is in the straight position and is a noticeable "slot" where it requires more pressure to turn it. It is getting to be annoying at slow speeds. Took a weekend trip and it seemed worse this past weekend. I have tightened the steering head a while back and the bounce when it's in the air is still on the loose side. Any info would be appreciated.

I have vacation rental homes and they are here too. They try every angle.

Rusty, congrats...which did you get. I almost ordered today but I ran out of time. This isn't a bad looking unit for about the same price with the free shipping. http://www.bestbuyautoequipment.com/product-p/rangermodelrml-750hd.htm

Yeh, I could see the back problems with a wider lift. This particular one has the removeable sides which go from 4' to 24" . "I think" that would be a relatively comfortable width for a Venture?
-
I would think with a 2' wide deck and a Venture on it you would not be required to bend too much? I could be wrong? I had thought about that cause my lowerr back gets sore easily. I figured the width plus being able to lower and raise would make standing comfortable???? Hmmm, good point though!

That thought ran through my mind too. I need to get to Alabama and pick up Ecks trailer and I could continue on from there....Heck, could go to Mass and visit the ex wife!!
