I found this Bunkhouse LX. It has a/c, hydraulic brakes, screen room, cooler, outside spare, chrome package and has only been used 4 times. It's a 2006 for $3500 and I am set to look at it tomorrow. Set up was done for pictures and was not taut. http://i53.tinypic.com/ddoysy.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/vfbekn.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/2i6yp2a.jpg

I do a lot of backpacking so I know what you're saying. Small and light is always best. I just came across one of these for sale. Can't find much on them but the price is good and it's close to home....very appealing. The wife doesn't like the bed size but....? Comes with the a/c unit, and being in Texas...that ain't a bad thing! http://www.orc.ca/~rwilson/ezytow/trailers.htm Anyone hear of these? He says it's made in Canada.

It did take the wife and I a little while to figure it out...but we cam to the same conclusion! But, Dungarees? I haven't heard that since I left Massachusetts. I found this older but informative link from a Motocamp forums. http://bohica.homeip.net:591/~mark/Campers.html#AspenClassic

Also found this list of manufacturers. http://www.bousmans.com/camper/general_info/06_info.htm

Very interesting unit. They say they are working on their web site. They have little to offer as far as specs etc. I have seen some say it is a heavy trailer. I see you are towing with a trike...have you tried it with a bike? Do you have any weight info.? It looks like a nice unit. How wide is the bed? My wife says I move too much and wants a larger bed?

Good info, thanks A friend of mine had the bunkhouse and he loved it. I also saw this one but info seems hard to find. It seems quite similar to the bunkhouse in design...and maybe a little cheaper in cost? http://www.trailmasterinc.com/campers.html

Please do find out which one broke...I have that problem with my trailer now...3 welding jobs on our last trip...don't need that problem arising. I found this one too...It seems to run over $5000 from what little info I could find. http://www.livinlite.com/motorcycle-overview.php

I am guessing that is a queen sized bed? I'll take a peek.

I have placed a call into them for some pricing info. I had a neighbor who had one and loved it. The wife and i are doing an East Coast tour this summer and we "almost" always prefer camping to hotels. I am a bit concerned with the 350 pound weight..before loading.

pulled a trailer with my Kumho which I found had a torn belt. I was getting (sometimes) a side to side wobble. At first I thought it was the wind and play in the hitch. I went through a set of 12" tires in 1100 miles. With time the belt on the tire broke and created a serious rear wobble on my bike....without the trailer. I have since gone back to a motorcycle tire and the trailer is pulling fine and the bike has been great "again". I modified my trailer to accept 12" wheels and it's like one poster mentioned....you forget it's there. I still ride fairly aggressive on the twisties and properly loaded....I don't blink. I might try a Kumho again but will not seat the tire at 100 plus pounds. If I get decent mileage out of this Avon (above 6000)....I'll stick with them. My 2 cents:)

I went with the Kumho and I liked it well enough but had a wobble at 20 mph or so. It was irritating to say the least. I put over 2500 miles on it and was never real happy...though it handled well at higher speeds. I ended up with a broken belt that made removal necessary. I put a motorcycle tire on and it was like getting my old bike back....no wobble, no concerns just a fun bike again without the feeling of something not quite right. I keep my brothers bike in my garage....also a RSV. I ride his with his Kumho and it rides every bit as good as my bike with the M.T. It just gets so darned confusing.

Then we could assume the same argument could hold for all after market parts. You didn't make the corner or hit the pedestrian due to the ape hangers you installed inhibiting maneuverability. You didn't use OEM brake pads or you would have stopped in time. I could see this going on and on?

We just got in from out trip. The house was just as pictured and a much better deal than the two hotel rooms we got in Jefferson...the Excelsior? (cost twice as much)? We were kicking ourselves for not staying in La another night. Oh well. We noticed there is a fine line between historic hotels and trash...I think the Excelsior was closer to trash. We were pretty disgusted with the west wing.

If you travel with two or more couples it's hard to beat. We have made offers when it's just the wife and I and often they will take them if you talk well of yourself and leave it clean....don't try all the beds!lol It really can be the way to go. Sometimes I sit and look at all the bargains. My 18 year old is off to college and the wife and I will be trying many more of these deals.

Last time we ate at Auntie Skinners. I actually hurt my mouth trying to eat one of their burgers. TMJ was starting and it finished it! The best burger i ever had...now you say this one? Ouch! Guess I'll give it a try.

Any recommendations for lodging. We have called the excelsior hotel and they want $169 per night. Per room. Always nice to stay close to the action but that's more than we want to pay. We have stayed off 59 by the liquor store before and that was kinda dumpy.
-
It really is surprising how affordable they can be. We were chuffed to be located so close to the events. Our 4th visit and we finally get to enjoy the town.

The wife, myself, brother and son have decided to take a trip over into Louisiana. Natchitoches to be exact. We have been several times and have always complained about the hotels being to far from the town center. Well, owning a few vacation rental homes we decided to check into a home. For one night four of us get to stay, 1 block off the square and within easy walking distance of all the food and "bars, The real reason we want to be close!" http://www.vrbo.com/288807 Really, how sweet is that. We usually miss the action and set around a dark dank hotel altering our mental state....now we can pay extra in a bar....with a few additional people. Heading up to Jefferson Texas after and could only find a monster home with a 160' private slide?

Tire mileage? New thread
crockettrider replied to Mel's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'd be jumping up and down if I could get 8000 out of any tire. Last Dunlop 404 )emergency replacement) netted me 3200 miles. Mettzler 880's have been around 6-6500. Dunlop elite 2 and Avon were both wearing a little better but the e-2 had a sidewall tear and the Avon a nail. My riding partners all get about the same and we think the chip seal has a lot to do with it. My car tire was doing much better till it broke a belt. My buddies think I have crap luck with tires....they're right! -
I had posted on a wobble at 20 mph in this thread. I wanted to update folks on my findings. I was getting a wobble at around 20 mph that was annoying but not bad. I had changed front and back tires while on the lift but always felt it was the back that was the culprit. I have since pout about 8000 miles on it and still had the wobble but it was still minor and I was getting used to it. Yesterday the wife stayed home and I rode with a buddy, the wobble was much worse...I was thinking shock air pressure or broken belt but the tire was fine 2 days earlier? The wife and I went for a ride today and are doing a 2 state trip Friday...The wobble was really getting worse. We went to a tire dealer and he had no tires but we were able to determine it was probably a broken belt. I brought the bike home, got it on the lift ran and got a tire and mounted it. The bike was such a joy to ride again...responsive, steady and no wobble. Put the trailer on for a test and no wobble at 60-70 mph.... My brother stores his RSV at my place and he has a Kumho as well. I figured I'd try his again and it rode real well.....I suspected a bad tire but it wasn't that bad for a while....I will (possibly) try it again but will closely watch the mounting pressure.

I have enjoyed mine this winter....summer may require more than the vent...like maybe air conditioning?
-
That's why I paid to have mine done. I do agree the high inflation is probably not good....though, I have often thought about the pressure once the tire is on a car screeching around a corner with 6 people in it would be? Is there really a difference????I am not so sure.

When I first got my air card I went into town to use it because it was so slow out here. It was still slow in town. They told me the towers weren't equipped to handle the higher speed cards? It has since gotten better but not fast by any means. I stick to my "country" high speed...phone dsl. that sucks as well:fiddle:
