Actually running a stock RR on a HO stator means that the stator will never have to work for a living. Because the stator has more out put capability than the RR can use the RR will only allow so much power so the stator will never get to use its max capability. Hence running nice and cool.

Some day when I grow up I hope to be able to fly like that............ Oh wait, I might be to old already to be able to fly like that.....

Stator replacement
Flyinfool replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Those are way low numbers. all 3 sets should be within 0.1V. Any wire pair should be around 20 VAC. If the stator can not give the RR at least 16V, the RR can not hold 14V output. It looks like you have either a bad stator or a bad wire connection. 2 of the 3 windings are not carringing there share of the load, the single winding that is still working will let you have yor 14V but as soon as there is any load added the votage falls off. There are additional tests that you can do on the stator to help confirm for sure that it is the problem. These tests are in the service manual in the tech section. If I get a chance I'll try to find it tomorrow. Unless someone else beats me to it. It is still possible that 1 or more diodes in the RR has failed and are pulling the stator voltage down. Thats why you still need to do some more tests. All you have proven so far is that you do have a serious electrical problem. -
OK just a shot in the dark here. There is a white wire with a green stripe, the only W/G wire I can find on the wiring diagram goes to the speed sensor, to the cruise unit, and to the turn signal canceling assy. But the other wire colors going to that unit do not really match up with any of the other wires that go to any of those units. I did notice that it is fused at 10A so it is possible that it is something for a trailer hookup but the wire colors are still not correct for that. About all you can do is follow the wires till you find another clue. Or pull out the 10A fuse and see what stops working.

The Lowe's here is still pretty new and the staff is just as helpful as Home Despot, but I have noticed that across the board the Lows prices are 5-10% higher than Menard's or Home Despots. Menards has the best prices but Home Despot has staff that know what they're talking about

If it is hooked up correctly you will have a normal low beam and a modulated HI beam during daylight hours. At night you will still have a normal low beam and a normal HI beam. If you are worried about the modulating HI beam not passing the inspection, just put a small piece of electrical tape over the photo sensor so the modulator thinks it is dark out. -
Thanks, anything for a fellow VR.ORGer Its just so hard to aim that snow correctly.......... But glad someone got it............

Stator replacement
Flyinfool replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Set your voltmeter to measure 200 volts AC. Check between any 2 of the stator wires with the engine running. Check it at idle and at 3000 rpm. Then check another pair of wires and finally the third pair of wires. The stator should be connected to the RR and everything turned on that is normally on while riding. The voltage should be the same or at least very close to the same no mater which 2 wires are measured. Let us know the voltages at idle and 3000. -

Since a modulated headlight does not actually turn the headlight off during the low part of the cycle, it just reduces the power out put, I do not know if it would mess with the RLU (Reserve Lighting Unit) system or not, It would depend on what the amp draw was during the low part of the modulation cycle. The other option is to disable the computer and RLU like we have to do when installing an HID system. -
I thought I had it close when I woke to 33° this morning and todays high will be the first time this month that the his will be below average. Even though I am in danger of loosing the dog in the grass, I absolutely REFUSE to, will not even contemplate, or entertain the thought of thinking about thinking of getting the lawn mower out in March in Wisconsin, I dont care if the grass gets 6 feet high, nope nope nope it aint gonna happen.

Good luck!!! But be aware that there is no cure for PMS, You can treat the symptoms, but it can not be cured, There will always be a relapse and the treatments will have to start over.

Well I done it now. I did everything I can think of to make the winter SNOW come back. I took the bike out of storage. I put all of the snow shovels away for the season. I packed all of the salt away for the season. I took the snow brush out of my truck I took the winter emergency kit out of the truck and put the summer kit back in. I took all of the storm windows off the house and put up the screens. Got the lawn mower ready to go got the weed wacker ready to go packed away all of my winter coats and boots and brought out the summer gear shaved off my winter beard changed over all of my RC stuff from winter to summer I don't know what more I can do...........

Hmmmmm I just happen to have a video camera that has excellent night shooting capabilities. I have filmed deer and other wildlife at night when it was so dark that I could not see the deer with the naked eye.
