  1. Most CB's will go to channel 9 on startup. I looked at the wiring diagram in the owner's manual. It didn't show a backup battery, but I'm still thinking that there may be one. I guess it might become a winter's night project to pull the tuner and open it up to see.
  2. I'd have to look at the wiring schematic to be sure, but I'm thinking that there may be a separate battery to hold the pre-sets. Sometimes they put in one of those watch-type batteries for that purpose. IF that's the case, that could be the problem. If you don't have a schematic, let me know and I'll go out into the frostbite to check mine.
  3. Gee, I was surprised that this topic was about trees. In that case, ours is fake.
  4. People who own classic "collector" vehicles often try to find the original sales brochure to augment their collection. And since many of our 1st gens now qualify as collector vehicles (20 years old), this isn't a bad deal. Thanks for pointing it out - I may just have to bid on it!
  5. You sure that's not Rod Stewart?
  6. Well, for gosh sake Kit, next time put them on your face where they belong!
  7. Oh, you'll quit. Maybe not by choice, but you'll quit.
  8. Don't worry, we Wisconsinites got that one. We're totally offended by it, but we got it!
  9. True enough. At the speeds achieved by 1st gens, duct tape would never be strong enough!
  10. Apparently, Ebay's pulled the listing.
  11. Are you perhaps blonde? Maybe this thread could be some help: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16879
  12. Gee, I've got an 86, and nobody told me about the "wait 2 days" maintenance procedure to cure a non-start condition. It would be good to know if that ever happens to me. Is that in the technical forum somewhere??
  13. The release clearly states that it is for bodily injury and property damage. In other words, if you sign it you will NEVER get more than $750 from them. Do not sign the release, even if you get the check for the bike. Have them issue a new release form showing the correct total amount paid to you, to avoid any later claim by them that they overpaid you. And as others have said, don't sign anything until you are sure that your medical situation is adequately compensated. They should be paying all of your medical bills (not just your deductible). The fact that you have medical insurance doesn't relieve them of their responsibility for the bills, and your med insurance may have subrogation rights. And there should be some compensation in there beyond the bill amounts for "pain and suffering". And make sure that the check itself doesn't have release language on it. DISCLAIMERS (a/k/a "the fine print"): 1. These should be considered statements of general legal principles and not specific legal advice. 2. When you get free legal advice, you get what you pay for! 3. I'm not a personal injury attorney. I don't even play one on television. (Or in the courtroom, for that matter)
  14. And we won't EVEN get into the legalities of it. I'll bet our "ham" members will have a field day with this one.
  15. Oh, dang, I'm such a spoil-sport! http://www.snopes.com/horrors/techno/radar.asp

    HELP !!!

Overdue Bill? Unpaid Bill? Post No Bill? Of course, since you married him, that would make you a Bill Collector! Besides, what's wrong with CB??!!
  17. I had the brown and gold version. Technical color names of Urushi Black and Marshall Gold. Did a complete repaint using General Motors White Diamond Pearl 4 coat process, the same pearl that they use on Cadillacs and Buicks. I'd say that it made it faster, but 1st Gens are already so fast that any increase is beyond current technology's capability to measure it!
  18. Can I still fit in it? Sure! Muffin-tops are in, right?? I'm pretty sure the boots still fit. Anything other than that...all bets are off!
  19. I did the same thing with my first oil change. Did the whole thing, cleaned it all up and then found the d*mn spring! I drained it out and re-did it, not wanting to take the chance. But if you want to give it a try without the spring, let me know how it works! I'm always more willing to experiment using someone else's bike.
  20. The red lettering in the middle with the black surround came out very blurred. And that's with a 19" monitor and eyeballs with new lenses in them!
  21. I must be foldable or something, because I'm 6'3" with 36" inseam, and I fit just fine on my 86. It has far more leg room than my old 82 GW1100 or 95 GW1500. My knees hit the little storage pouches if I have them on, but they don't hit the fairing itself. Mind you, I don't have a lot of extra "cushion" around my seat, but it is slowly growing to that point. I also test drove a 2007 GW1800, and I fit fine on that too. It seemed to fit and handle very similar to the 86VR.
  22. Use the whole hand next time.

Certainly one of the more cryptic posts, wasn't it? I've had more elaborate brush-offs from blind dates!
  24. Seriusly, Kit, you're doing it the right way. Be civil, explain that you almost went "Harley" on them but like the bike too much to give it up, but that they need to make it right. Offering a 5 year warranty is a great sales feature, but only if it has some meaning. And if it doesn't, a lot of current and/or future owners will discover it through this group. If you want another set of eyes to look over the letter, shoot me a PM. Just make sure the cages for those tigers are solid and secure!
