  1. A friend of mine has a 99 venture and has the Kromewerks pipes. They don't sound loud to me. Just a deep rumble.
  2. I sat on one of these in Myrtle Beach this spring and saw one saturday at thunder beach, Panama City, Fl. It is probably a very comfortable ride but I wouldn't buy one because I don't like the way it looks As far as dependability I don't think there is a better bike than the victory. A friend of mine that lives in Dawsonville, Ga, not far from you is on his second victory. I don't believe any bike would hold up to the hard riding he did on his first victory. He was hit by a car and totaled it. He says he has hurt the feelings of many harley riders by blowing them off the road. I rode with him last weekend and he said he had his bike up to 135 mph and still had throttle. It holds six quarts of oil and has an oil cooler to keep the operating temperature down. He had a harley a few years ago and it wasn't reliable. He said he stopped where a group of harley riders with an attitude were and one of them said he was a harley wannabe. He said no, I am a harley has been and there are only two bikes mentioned in the bible. Victory and Triumph. What can I say.
  3. As General Schwarzkopf told Saddam Hussein " You are full of bovine scatology."
  4. Why don't you get one and let us know if it fits.
  5. I rode my brother in law's valykrie before I bought my venture. It is quieter with its stock pipes than my venture. It has a whine as you accelerate as do all bikes with a drive shaft. If you rode my bike you would change your tune. It isn't just the normal whine of a drive shaft it screams when you get to 65 to 70 mph. You can't hear the engine running because of the screaming whine. I have been riding bikes since I was 15 years old and am now 56. I know the difference between a normal whine and a scream. You need to experience the screaming whine before you start giving me your unsubstaniated theory.
  6. After reading this post I need some help. I went on aerostitch.com and they show a Chatterbox earspeaker adapter # 3857. I have a chatterbox system. I also saw the intercom system adapter #3900 which is the 1/8" adapter plug mentioned here. I called aerostitch but the person I talked with didn't know what I was talking about. Does anyone know what the #3857 does and would it be better than #3900? Also if I buy the adapter # 3900 do I need two, one for me and one for passenger? Thanks, Eddie Hall
  7. Bikebandit is an endorsed vendor by AMA. I would contact them and let them know about the poor service. Even if you're not a member of AMA I would let them know.
  8. If I had to make a decision today I would say no. I bought my 05 September 3, 2005 and have 25,000 miles on it. The bike would be perfect if it wasn't for the whine and problems with the rear end. I am on my 4th rear end since 16,000 miles and have had the clutch basket replaced. The whine has come back and is as loud as ever. It would be the perfect bike if it wasn't for these issues.
  9. Thanks to all of you that replied to my request for help with saddlebag bolts. Yesterday I ordered the bolts from McMaster-Carr and just received them from UPS. I just knew that had charged me for overnight delivery but the invoice shows only $4.25 for shipping. Again thanks to all of you for your help. I'm always amazed at the quality of people on this site. Eddie Hall
  10. I saw their demonstration in Daytona this spring. It is good information but I don't believe they could maneuver a second gen venture like they do the road kings. You can practicely lay the road king down on its side and keep riding, but the venture is so top heavy it will fall. I would like to see them ride a venture in their demonstration.
  11. I was going to take the saddlebags off my bike so I could give it a good cleaning. When I went to take the saddlebag off the left side (sitting on the bike it is the left bag) the bolt on the top left wouldn't come loose. I broke the allen wrench trying to get the bolt out. After several attempts the bolt head is rounded off. Looking at the diagram for an 05 venture I can't determine which bolt this is. Can any of you tell me the number of this bolt? Also, how can I get this bolt out now that the head is rounded off? Thanks for your help.

    WTF?!?

I like the look and sound of the harley and before I bought my 05 venture in Sept 05 I went to buy an electra glide ultra classic. It was the most beautiful blue and white color I had seen. I looked and looked at the bike at our local harley dealership and was begging for someone to come over and talk to me about the bike but no one did. I went home and told my wife I had found the bike we needed. Two days later my wife and I went to the harley dealership to look at the ultra classic. We walked around the bike and kept looking at people at the dealership walk past us. No one ever even gave us a hello. We walked out and never went back. We had a friend that has an o4 venture and he let us ride it so we bought a venture. I don't like to get into bashing the reliability of the harleys because I have had more trouble with my venture than most people have with their harleys, but this is a funny story I have to tell you. This spring during bike week in Daytona Willie G. Davidson and the head engineer of harley davidson were coming through on the way to Daytona. One afternoon I was at a local bike shop where a lot of us hang out sometime. One of my harley friend's cell phone rang and he hung up the phone and said " hey everyone, Willie G. is at the harley dealership, he was coming through Albany on the way to Daytona and his bike broke down." Anyone want to ride to the harley dealership and see Willie G., and he almost knocked the door down headed to the dealership. Word spread around town and people swamped the harley dealer. I thought what bad advertising for harley, when even Willie G's bike won't make it to Daytona without breaking down. Another friend of mine that has a fat boy got word and went to the dealership. He said Wille G and the engineer were asking everyone how they liked their harleys. My friend told the engineer that his bike had pulled to the left since it was new. The engineer rode the bike and came back and said yep it pulls to the left and told my friend to cut some metal stock a certain length and put it in the front fork. My friend said he was hoping harley to do something to correct it. I was seriously considering selling or trading my bike for an Ultra Classic but I have talked to a few people that say it runs too hot. Who knows. If yamaha could correct the whine of the transmission I would be satisfied with my venture and would buy another one someday.
  13. Rode my bike today with and without my wife on the back. The bike handles better but I switching back to the stock links. My wife said the ride was ruff and she felt more vibration and wind. The ride is too ruff. If anyone wants a set of leveling links, make me an offer.
  14. I haven't been able to ride my bike this weekend but the ride from work friday was bad. It was like riding in a two horse wagon and my pants bunched up in the back because I was leaning forward. I am going to let the air out of the rear shock tomorrow and ride some to see if I will get used to it.
  15. As I ride the bike more I'm sure I will get used to the leveling links but for now it seems a lot higher. I put the back tire on a 1" piece of wood before ordering the links and I couldn't really tell any difference. But riding with the links it feels different. It just something you have to get used to.
  16. Received the leveling links last week. Diamond R is good to do business with. Installed them this morning and just drove about 5 miles to office. Feels like I am sitting on an elephant. Will find out later how it handles.
  17. Yamaha sent a factory tech from Titusville, Fl to here in May. He checked the rear swing arm and said a needle bearing was bad and replaced it. He also replaced the rear shock and drive shaft and disassembled the rear end and re-greased and reinstalled it. So, all that has been done.
  18. Hey V7 Goose, The rear end problem and clutch basket problem is a problem with many ventures. Maybe not as much trouble as mine but if you look at the previous threads you will see that yamaha has a problem and can't or won't do what needs to be done to correct it. Many guys on this forum have even said they are switching to another brand of bike. My venture was flawless for 16,000 miles and then all of a sudden I have the clutch basket whine and bad rear diffs. I talked to a service manager by the name of Al Harper at the star exhibit in Myrtle Beach this spring and even he said there was a problem with the rear ends of the ventures. Any manufacturer can have an unexpected problem but this one has been going on more than one year and needs to be addressed. This is my third and last yamaha. I think I will go with the harley electra glide ultra classic next. I really like the 08.
  19. I have posted several times in the past about the trouble I have had with the rear end of my 05 venture. Yamaha replaced the rear diff three times within about 2,000 miles. I had already had the rear diff replaced once before that. I left my bike at the dealer saturday for the 24,000 mile service. The service manager just called and said the rear pinyon was worn out so yamaha is sending another rear diff and a new drive shaft. What's up with the rear ends with these bikes? This will be the fourth rear diff within about 8,000 miles.
  20. Thanks for the replies. How do I find the tech article by Freebird? I've looked and can't find. Thanks
  21. I just ordered a venture dad hitch. Roy said to use a standard boat trailer 5 pin flat rubber connector wiring kit that you can get from most auto parts stores. A friend of mine has a trailer he pulls with his goldwing and said I can use it anytime to get the feel of pulling a trailer before I buy one. I thought this is great. My wife and I are going on a trip next week so this will be a good time to pull a trailer. But my friend says he has a 4 pin connector with a 5th wire added. I also saw on a thread this morning on the hopkins hoppy trailer kit which it says is a 4-way flat connector. What should I do to wire my venture for a trailer. I am confused, however it doesn't take much to confuse me. Thanks.
  22. Hey Mini-Muffin, My wife and I would be interested. Keep me posted. We have been through Ashville three times in the past two years and let me tell you, you need to have reservations in advance to get a room anywhere. All three times every place within miles was booked up. The last time we went was in June of this year. We started on the blue ridge parkway in Cherokee NC and got off in Asheville around 4:30pm. We drove for miles stopping at every motel and asking for a room. We finally got to some place in Tennessee around 8:00pm and they had a room and it was 150.00 per night. We said if we ever go to North Carolina again we will make plans ahead of time as to where we will stay.
  23. Sorry gibvel, I mispelled your name.
  24. Hey givbel, I run 38 psi in my front tire and 40 in rear.
