Dave, i don't know about the MK1 first gens, but on my MK2,(86), the petcock is located just above, and behind the brake pedal. hope you "eventually find it"! just jt -
your yamaha "dealer", is quite a salesman! he is apparently in the TIRE business, to make a huge profit. i have never heard of a 404, NOT being recommended for a venture. i would look for another dealer, if i were you. just jt

met this younger guy as he was pulling up to a convenience store. he was on an '02, v-star1100. he said a "buddy, didn't like the way it handled, ".and just GAVE it to him! i offered him 4 times what he paid for it, and he turned me down! can you imagine a guy turning down a 400% profit??? lol just jt

why does the petcock valve have "screens" on it? to me , it makes more sense, to let rust particles, water, trash in general, get OUT of the fuel tank, and get trapped in the fuel filter. isn't that why the fuel filter is there in the first place? just jt

i am at a loss, here. three months ago, i did the starter clutch repair. i put 3 gallons of gas and 1/2 can of sea foam in the tank, started it and let it idle for about 20 minutes.this morning i went out to the shed to start it a(first time i've been out there in 3 months), and my gas tank is empty!!!! could it be that the sea foam in that concentration, caused the petcock gasket to deteriorate? any other ideas as to WHY? just jt
