  1. I've noticed some wind buffeting on my RSTD that I don't have on my 07 V-Star 1300T. I installed Buck's lowers on my 1300 and the buffeting was noticeable less. The 1300's windshield is about 2" taller so cutting the windshield shouldn't help the buffeting, but Buck's lowers are considerably wider and longer than the stock RSTDs. Has anyone experimented with their lowers or done anything to improve the buffeting? The RSTD is not all that bad but after putting the lowers on the 1300 I am spoiled. Thanks for any comments!
  2. I finally got back out in the garage yesterday and finished doing all the work that I had planned to get done on the bike over the winter and had been procrastinating about. I even repaired the windshield bracket where the plastic tabs had broken. Never fails, read about something on here, go out and check the bike and sure enough there it is, broke. Oh well, I made up the brackets welded them to the ends of the windshield bracket and bolted them to the speakers. Good to go. Just had to change the oil and wash the bike. I got the oil change done this morning. Then we were invited to an Easter brunch at noon. So I figure as soon as we get back I'll give it a quick wash and I can go out and enjoy the rest of this beautiful day and break in the new tires. OH NO! I no more then finished drying off the bike and in comes the neighbours to visit. They leave and in come some other friends to visit too. By now it's about 6:30 and the temp is dropping and it's time to eat. No ride today, but it was close. Hope it's nice tomorrow.
  3. Has anyone cut down their windshield? How did it work out?I would like to shorten mine by 4 inches, any suggestions or advise ? Thanks...
  4. Hello all, I purchased a Clearview windshield on ebay and installed it. The only thing I noticed is that the chrome mole (36) 4XY-28345-00-00 MOLE does not fit tightly against the shield. Has anyone installed a Clearview windshield, and is there a trick or something? Thanks, John
  5. My new J&M Bag Came today...I have things delivered to my office....I have read that it just slips down between the dash and windshield, but want to make sure I do not have to punch holes for the windshild bolts, or modify in any way....Thanks in advance for any input.... George In Virginia
  6. Wondering what the air pressure in the suspension should be when pulling a trailer? I reed that more air in the rear moves the COG forward. If this is right does a trailer affect COG? I'm 6'2" and have no problems looking over the windshield of my 05 RSTD unless I'm pulling a trailer. Even then I can still see over the windshield but do notice the edge is closer to my line of sight. This makes me think I need to add air.? Hope this is making sense?!
  7. I installed a new set of handlebars with 2" pullback. Just got back from a week end trip to Savannah GA. Rode about 500 miles in the most beautiful weather and I didn't get any pain in my upper back at all. I also got to test out my windshield with a vent in it and it worked well. It was warm and we had a great time!!!
  8. I saw cyote61's signature line, "I hate Rap, it ain't real music it's crap, I hate Rap" and made me laugh about a rap music encounter I had last Friday and I thought I would share it here. While I don't care for Rap music I don't mind other listening to it as long as they don't force it on me. Anyway, I was driving through city traffic in the left lane of of a 4 lane street adjacent to the university campus. It was stop and go traffic and this small car pulled up along my right just a few feet in front of me. There were two young ladies in it, about 17 or 18 and they had the window rolled down with the RAP music cranked up obnoxiously loud and they were bouncing up and down and flailing there arms around as if to be dancing with the music and chanting along at the top of their voice. I looked them and thought what inconsiderate jerks. The sun was out and it had warmed up and the snow melt across the street had caused my windshield to become a mess. So I used my washer and I noticed that the wipers of my Tahoe were flipping washer fluid off to the right of the windshield. After seeing that this little devil took over within me and an evil little grin came on my face. I eased the truck up a few feet so that my windshield was in line with the obnoxious girl's open window. I just had to rewash my windshield and did. But the slow speed only threw the fluid a short way past the truck. So I switched them to high and let it rip again. The girl was startled and immediately quit chanting and quickly began rolling up her window. The light turned green and and pulled off with that grin on my face and the satisfaction knowing I had saved a few motorists from having to endure that noise while in traffic. I must say that that behavior is normally not my style and it will probably come back to haunt me some day, but it was funny. :rotfl: DT
  9. Since my accident last summer, I've been storing take-off parts. Now I need the room in the garage. I will eventually try to get them listed in the classifieds as time permits. If you are interested in anything, PM me and we'll see what we can do. Here is some of what I have: rear chrome tip for front fender, highway light bar-just the bar, headlight bezel, rt front brake assembly, left saddle bag, quick detach brackets from windshield, windshield, chrome windshield medallions with gaskets, rt passenger floorboard, and a few more! Even though this isn't the classifieds, time is limited and I thought this would be the fastest way to get word out so that parts can get to new bikes before spring. Thanks! Mark
  10. We had a couple of nice days and I was able to get out for a ride. I had picked up some road crud and so I decided to clean the windshield. That is when I found it very loose. I popped the trim piece and found four very loose screws and one completely out. I could not believe they had grown so loose on 2,000 miles since install. When I installed the windshield, I had tightened the screws as much as possible after hearing the problems one of our members had with his windshield coming off at 60 mph. Just wanted to let anyone with a Clearview Windshield to know they may need to check the windshield. Be Safe
  11. Does anyone ride with a shorter wider windshield? I am considering the purchase of a wider and shorter tinted shield but i'm not sure I will like riding on long trips with it. Also I am not sure of the way it looks. If anyone here rides with one can you please post a pic, and tell me what height it is possibly? Maybe some pro's and cons of it too? Thanks in advance, Big Mike
  12. I recently received and installed a Clearview windshield. What does everyone use to clean thiers??? The instructions say to soak a towel with water, and then wring the cloth over the shield while scraping the bug remnants with your hand. I have no problem with that, but imagine the mess it makes on your fairinf and fender... Any suggestions???
  13. I want to do some things to my 2nd gen but have questions 1. Where can I purchase a windshield with a vent or do they even make such a thing? 2. I want to replace the handle bars with a set that brings the grips back toward the rider about 2 1/2" and about 2" wider than stock. Is the throttle cable the only thing I will have to replace with a longer set? What about wiring?
  14. A friend of mine needs a windshield for his '05 RSTD. Does anyone have one for sale or know where he can get one? tew47
  15. I have a friend that is looking for a wider, taller windshield for his VR. Is there some one still making these? Fred
  16. Anyone have one of the 9" shorties that you don't like?? I'd like to have a shorter shield on mine.
  17. Ok, I can't stand it anymore. I can ride year round here in Florida, but the mist on the windshield is killing me. I thought I could get used to looking through it, but now I want to cut it down but I am unsure of the proper technique. If anyone knows, please let me know and I would be grateful. I have most of the tools I think I need, ie. dremel, jig saw, scroll saw and patience. Help please! Sky Pilot
  18. If any of you guys have an old busted up windshield for an RSTD - I need just the quick release mounts. I want to install my fairing for quick release and this would be a great place to start. I will still have some cutting and welding to do - but this would save me a lot of work. NO LONGER NEEDED Thanks, Shep I will also post this in the Classifieds
  19. I have a Garmin Nuvi with the windshield mount in my truck. Has anyone ever mounted this to the windshield of the RSV. It won't hurt the shield will it?
  20. I have a 07 Venture and I have had 3 Windshields put on it by my local Yamaha dealer. It seems to crack below the chrome where the bolts are put in and splits up the windshield. I think that they are stumped and so am I. They were not very happy when I told them it is ready for another one. Any Ideas? Thanks, Tonto01
  21. I have an 06 RSTD and the right side quick release doesnt sit tight enough (the keeper catches over the post but loose) so if i hit a bump it vibrates and makes noise. The left side holds on that round piece nice and snug. Does anyone know how to adjust the windshield mounts so that windshield keeper is tighter to that post? Thank You Hope i explained this well enough.

  24. My wife Debbie and I were on our way to Missouri for a week mc vacation yesterday. We were east of Jay, Ok. about 8 miles. I had just passed two vehicles that were tailgating each other slowing down, speeding up and just plain irritating. I went around them at about 90 miles per hr. faster than ussual and because they speeded up as I was passing them I didn't realize my speed. I had slowed down to about 80 and my windshield broke loose and hit me on the nose and mouth and almost knocked me out. I was able to maintain control until I found a place to pull over and thankfully we are still here to tell about it. After regaining my composure and cleaning the blood We rode to Grove to the emergency rm. long story short no broken nose or facial bones but a deep gash in the cartalege of my nose and a sore cheek bone, broken visor on my helmet and destroyed sunglasses. We stayed the night in a motel in Grove, Ok. and rode back home about 120 miles today without a windshield. I had a clearview xx tall, wide shield with the vent. The shield snapped loose and broke at the two fasteners just below the vent. Ironically the perfect storm because the shield fits in slots on either side and when the shield snapped at the two screws that hold the windshield on it immediately came flying back at me. I think the integrity of the shield strength is compromised due to the vent and the location of the only two screws that hold the windshield in place being just below the vent. If for any reason these two screws fail or the shield snaps at that location the same thing could and would happen to anyone. I am sharing this as a warning to any one with the clearview or any other brand shield with the vent positioned as those are. There isn't much material between the screws and the vent. Also the material used is resistant to scratching, but more prone to chips as I have heard other clearview customers state on this site which leads me to believe that the material used is a harder plastic than the stock shield thus being more brittle and less pliable which could also explain it snapping without warning or apparent damage to the shield before this experience. I have also read threads here on this site of stress cracks apparent in some clearview shields. I also theorize that the clearview shield w/out the vent may be much stronger and this problem may not arise. I loved my clearview shield and it appears to be made of very good quality. The clearview people all seem to be great people. In other words I have nothing against clearview, but I want people on this site to be warned of the possibility of experiencing what I have and we are lucky to be here to tell about it. I am also going to send pics and this same information to clearview to alert them of the potential for the shields failing. The next person may not be as lucky as we were. If there is anyone with similar experiences or have anything to add It could possibly save a life or lives. Of all the things that can possibly go wrong with a motorcycle or other catastrophies while riding I never expected my wind shield to break loose.
  25. Hi All of you! Thanks for the help with this skyscraper windshield! I have opted to call the folks at Clearview and talk to them. Mainly because I can get one already assembled with a vent in it for the hot Summer, and it can be tinted and custom fit, A gray tint will look cool on my midnight. When and if I get it, I hear it takes a couple months to obtain, if any of you want the stock one, it is free, just ask, the stock bike original shield would fit someone who is maybe six foot six? I am exactly six foot and it is 4 inches too high. When I take it off and lay it in the garage or store it in the shed........there it will be 20 years from now, someone might as well have some use for it, so I will throw it up for grabs when I obtain the new one. Kit
