  1. Just got home after logging around 1000 miles today. The 2008 RSV is in the garage safe and sound thanks to a uhaul trailer and an understanding GF. So I got a 2008 RSV (S?) with 1059 miles for 10,900(warranty till 8/2014) Has HD mufflers, the extra light bar/driving lights. The tape deck has been replaced with a lined box, not sure how I feel about that. A light scratch on the headlight chrome trim and an odd spot on the front fender trim. A great experience dealing with ACES.... Provided I get the paperwork on time they get 5 stars from me. So now I need a tape deck and a replacement seat hold down nut(only had one) Pretty stoked and damn tired. BTW the Uhaul trailer with the chock built in worked sweet, could barely tell it was back there and built like a Sherman tank! Night all Frank
  2. Motorcycle Trailer! Check this out. Saw this at Harbor Freight, not a bad deal and with the 20% coupon found in most magazines. (I know there in the gun magazine) The 20% would be off the $379.99 bring the total to around $304.00+tax:sign isnt that spec
  3. Well I am thinking about building a trailer for my bike. I am thinking about doing a steel frame with a fiberglass shell. Now I know that there are plenty of people here that have pulled trailers and what are your thoughts? Anything a bike trailer needs? Anything to watch out for. I have experience with fiberglass and the know-how to make the mold and all so there are no worries there. I also have decent welding skills. I have made boat trailers before so I know how to keep it square so it will track strait. I have a source that I can get all the materials for around $250. Should I try it or am I better off buying one? Shaun
  4. I messed up and bought a Bushtec Roadmaster Trailer. Don't get me wrong, the trailer is outstanding and worth every penny, but I wonder if I should've bought a side car instead. I have bad hips and realize that holding up our bike with our combined 400lbs is getting to be an issue. Since a Trike conversion is sooo expensive, I was thinking that if I had bought a sidecar rather than a trailer, I would've been better off for close to the same money. I could've hauled our extra luggage on long trips in the sidecar AND been able to take a 3rd passenger on short cruises! So, do you agree? Did I mess up?
  5. I have looked but cannot find wiring instructions for a trailer on a 1st Gen.My trailer has the yellow turn signals so with or without modulator is ok.And pictures.
  6. I recently posted another thread describing my 4424 mile ride to Michigan, towing my Harbor Freight trailer. Towing the trailer was largely a non-event. It felt very smooth behind me, and didn't impact me but for a couple hard stops where I felt the mass pushing me. The hubs always felt cool to the touch. I did have several issues that I would like resolved before my next trip in September. The first is a vibration. The contents of the trailer wore very fast. I had the shell of my wife's helmet wear off, exposing the inside. (I will replace it now) Our air mattress wore a hole; I guess it touched the very long bolts inside the trailer. (I need to cut them off, since they are probably jutting out a good half inch.) Drysacks look thin and worn. Pots and pans have shiny places, etc. The locks vibrated apart--twice! I had to replace them on the road. What causes vibration like that? Second, the tires were bald and showing cord by 2000 miles. (see photo) I had to replace them in the rain in Marquette. The Wal*Mart people wouldn't touch the trailer, but they did lend me tools to do the job efficiently. I was back on the road inside 45 minutes. Now, my new tires look almost the same. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4142/4828385750_ce7696deed.jpg The guy at the Wal*Mart tried balancing the tires. They zeroed out despite the small size, but used 2.5oz on one tire, and 2.25oz on the other! I thought the out-of-balance caused the vibration, but that I still got vibration on the remainder of the ride. (Things inside got even more worn.) What causes this wear pattern? I was under inflated leaving home, and the guys at Wal*Mart made sure they were at manufacturer specs before they gave me the tires. Still, they are worn and I need new tires. I did pull at 70mph almost all the time. The last issue I blame on the Oklahoma construction. My license plate was almost literally torn off the trailer. The left corner was gone, including the bolt, and the right side was cracked and about to come off. I hit a "bump" at a bridge on a resurfacing project, and I think perhaps the trailer was severely tossed. Oh, and with the Wal*Mart inflation, the trailer bounced a lot. Any ideas? Should tires need replacing every 2000 miles?? Dave
  7. I get to go this year ! Buut I have to work , I am working at the Trick Lights trailer inside the the Speedway . Stop by and say Hi. Thom

  12. I got myself a tent trailer off Craig's earlier this week. It's a 1977 CycleCamp, and I actually got it from the original owner who has towed it all over the country on various Gold Wings. It's in decent shape and although it could use some work, it is ready to go and I got a great deal on it. I do remember CycleCamp from the early 80's, but I can't find any info on the internet on this trailer. I've already had the hitch installed for some time, I used it for mounting a large flag for Patriot Guard Missions, but I do need to do the wiring still. I'll be using it this coming weekend for an overnight camping ride up the coast to the Big Sur area. If anyone has any info on CycleCamp, I'd appreciate hearing from you. I have trailered before, but it has been a few years.
  13. Okay, I have a 96 Fleetwood Terry RV travel trailer model 29S and I need a roof repair. Getting water in it, I have sealed every spot, still leaks. Probably looking at a entire roof replacement, anyone here know how to do that? Anyone here do it for a living or can do it as a side job and any idea what it would cost? Trailer is stored at Pirateland at Myrtle Beach. Trailer is about 31' long no slides. Ideal plan would be to come down and get the trailer to a site for a day or two and let the repairs take place. Thanks in advance, Don
  14. Anyone familiar with this trailer? http://www.uscargo.com/default.asp?page=products&model=luggagetrailer&type=specialtytrailers
  15. if I narrowed a HF trailer to say 35" so it would fit thru motel door do you think it would be too unstable and maybe flip??
  16. I am going tomorrow to go look at this bike and from what he tells me I think it will be in my garage. I just need to find a trailer hitch for it. http://treasure.craigslist.org/mcy/2195401066.html
  17. Where is the best place to get a trailer hitch for a 2010 RSV?
  18. I am going Thursday to look at a new for me trailer so that I can get to Dons MD this spring. All I know so far is that it is a Menard's trailer, similar to the HF trailer, with a car topper from Farm & Fleet. The trailer frame and bottom half of the topper are painted black and the top half is painted Yamaha black cherry, I would most likely want to repaint it, to either a light color to reduce heat buildup in the sun, or to match my bike or sell the topper part and build the box that I really want. It was used once to Sturgis and back to Milwaukee. He is asking $400 which is way to much to me when I can get a new one for less from HF. Anyone know what specifically I should look at on it other than the obvious mechanical stuff?
  19. Need help finding a push button lock for my bushtec trailer. The current lock has to be operated with a key everytime you want to get in. Hoping someone might have an idea on a push button lock similar to our trunk lids. Thanks for any sugguestions.
  20. Anyone know what it is.... Where to find it? max load on a 2nd Gen Venture is 419 lbs. most trailers say 10 to 15% toungue weight, so 200lb trailer would be 20-25 lb. unigo trailers say 33% tongue weight, of a 180lb loaded trailer so 60Lb. Am looking into creating a trunk like luggage carrier fully supported by the receiver hitch.. Can't find any documentation from Yamaha that says one way or the other...

    Trailer ?

Has any one pulled a Aluma, Nomad, or dart trailer? how well do they pull, & any problums with them. Just looking. If I could find a used one some where with in 500 miles of N.D. priced right I might need one. Would be nice. I know there are better ones out there but not spending that on a trailer. Thanks for your reply!
  22. i had the day off today so i thought id put my new trailer togeather; things started out good i took out the shell top and bottom set them on the lawn and went back took the fenders out and set them aside; now i started to asemble the trailer this went very quick with out even looking in the book almost done and i see a small inch and a half pice of black plastic in the box now im thinking the worst as i pick up my fenders and look for the broken one and there both still good well back to tighting all the bolts i have in the trailer and i go in the house to get a soda. on my way back out the door i see some dirt on my cover to the box OH NO its not dirt its a HOLE broken so i call harbor freight and they are very nice and looking up part #s for me and getting me a new shell lid and when talking to them i look at the bottom and its not broken but the corner is crushed in well now the trailer is done and im waiting for the new shell for it SHHHEEEESSSSSSSS just cant win some days now the good news is in two weeks ill have TWO not ONE but 2 trailers for my lill scooter and you get pics when done Dray
  23. Hey folks.... I was wondering... when you wired your bike for the trailer... what did you do with the connector?? Is there a way to mount it to the hitch?? not sure what to do with it. The trailer I bought has a 5-pin round connector...... your thoughts???
  24. For those that have a HF trailer. Per the specs the bed is 40 x 49 inches. Am I correct to assume that it is 40" wide? Can someone that has one give me the total dimension from outside of fender to outside of fender? Has anyone flipped the axle to the top of the springs just to lower the CG? I can not find any car topper that fills all of my needs so I am planning to build one. I will incorporate the wheel wells into the box that I am building. Dang this will be a lot of work between now and MD. Yes I will post pics as soon as there is something to post pics of.
  25. I've read about a couple of different places to splice in the trailer light pig-tail, but I still have one question. What do you use to do the splice. Those squeeze together quick splices, or bare wires with a heat shrink tubing cover?? I have a 5 wire on the trailer to match what's on the bike so I think a plug and play is out if anyone even makes one...
