  1. My riding season begins April 19th with a mood change. It's the first weekend after I paid the IRS.If the creek don't rise I'm going to put a few miles on mamamo's 99. Run a few tanks through it and make sure it's running ok before we start painting it in may. I think my test ride is about over(Mamamo is still waiting her turn). :rotf::rotf: The 84 needs some tlc before I consider a trip to the beach in june. Those front fork seals or whatever still have a major leak even after a rebuild and the battery is due replacement. I got a new front tire mounted up ready to install as well. The 89 just needs a little cleanup. Those #@#^ birds are trying to build nest in my scoot shed again and that darn cat has muddy tracks on the scoots. I need to roll the 86 outside where I got some elbow room and start parting it out in the evenings. I can throw a tarp over it out there. I think I will pull those plugs and clean them and start it up. The last thing I do will be part out the essentials for keeping it running. So when I get it secured on the center stand the plastic, floorboards, hitch, etc start coming off. Not sure how much help I can be but Yammer Dan is way over due for getting something running. We got to do something about that.My scoots have been neglected. Nothing has been started since January. We have been busy at the new property just not enough time.
  2. well spring is here in mn and i'm finally getting my bike together after fixing the tranny this winter. the motor's been sitting on my workbench mostly is pieces for a good part of the winter so I plan on putting clean oil in for the first start up, running it for 10-20 min the changing the oil and filter. I'm thinking about just puting regular 5w-30 in the first strat up since i have plenty of it around and it's alot cheaper than yama oil. anybody think that presents any problem's?
  3. Just unloaded my new 07 Venture from the truck and ready to start working on it. Got a little money to spend and want to know what everyone recommends as the immediate mods, critical, then those nice to have and the order i should start knocking them out in... Ive seen a lot of talk on the site of exhaust, leveling, passing lights, led's, etc but thought it would be nice for us newbies to have the vetrans give us the list from their experience... Thoughts?
  4. Just before I parked the bike for the winter I went to start it. It cranked about 1/4 of a rev, there was metal breaking sound and what sounded like a spring or something under tension releasing. Push the starter button now and nothing happens accept the starter trying... dead electrical load. The engine will not spin over. Where do I start looking and testing? My thought was to pull the left side center cover and try to turn the engine crank over with a socket and breaker bar. I'm hoping to eliminate a broken valve I think. If that proves to be good, is there something in the starter gear train I should then dig into. TIA
  5. I would like to infom anyone who is a member of a moose lodge and didnt know (like myself) that they have an organization within the moose called "Riders of the Moose ". After much research our lodge has decided to start a chapter of our own. It is an easy way to start a riding club with existing friends and to make new ones. They also do a pile of charity work for local organizations and Moose heart wich is a orphanage per say located in ill.You should check out the websites. google them "riders of the moose" and "mooseheart". We are actually planning to attend their blessing of the bikes at the end of may .
  6. Went to take the bike to work today and it wouldn't start,, battery seemed weak. This is the second time it has happend.. Bike is just a year old last week and completely stock. First time it had sat unused for a month, and when I went to start it the radio had been turned off so I was not 100% sure I had turned the key all the way off. I charged the battery and it was fine for a few weeks. On the 13th I did a 150 mile ride and put it back in the garage, hadn't had a chance to ride since (but that is only 11 days) and today it wouldn't start. The key was definitely off. I will get to it tomorrow and check the fluid level, connections and voltage, charge it, and check the voltage running, to make sure it is charging OK. Anything else to look for?
  7. After installing a Stebel air horn. My bike cranks w/o hitting the start button. Prior to adding the horn we had to have a "before" sound. Key was on and start was hit instead of horn and the chasis ground arked. Testing done so far: Start switch, Relay, Kick stand safety, clutch switch. HELP!!!!!! I have no idea where to go from here HELP
  8. OK guys I know this is not about bikes but I need some help. I have a 96 F150 that I bought with 70,000 miles on it could not find out about trans service done ever. So now it has 154,000 and i have been told for years not to service tranny because it could start slipping, And I had a 78 diesel F250 That I changed thefluid in the same circumstance ,and it started slipping. So I'm in a quandary on what to do. Any thoughts?.....Fred
  9. Greetings, I was just wondering for storing the bike over winter is it better to have the gas tank full or pretty close to empty. Mine just has 2 bars showing on the guage right now. I was thinking about that gas just sitting there for 2 to 3 months. If it was better to start the season with a fresh tank. Or does it make a difference. Thank you. bossman
  10. I got a new computer a month or so ago and it was loaded with Windows Vista. I was upgrading from windows 98, or so I thought. First of all I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree when it comes to computers I often find myself going to my 15 year old for help. Anyhow this system is twice a slow as w/98 was. It as problems ripping and burning cd's (sometimes it will and sometimes it won't) it's like it has its own taste of music. Sometimes it takes over 10 minutes just to start up. And after start up if you click on a certain area it may take another 10 minutes tp open a page. Is anyone else running this system with these problems, or does anyone know how to fix the issuesor it normal?
  11. I know some of you will take a New Years Day ride. Were getting snow with a high of 35 today. :snow2: I doubt it mine will start at 35.
  12. I'm just getting in from a wonderful 150+ mile solo ride through the gorgeous farmlands east and south of Atlanta. It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and strong winds. The temperature hit the low 40s, but the wind chill dropped that another 8 degrees. Of course, that doesn't count for what I call "bike chill", which is the additional 10 degree drop you experience at 75 mph! So, that's a good start to the New Year! I sincerely hope and wish for a healthy, joyous, and prosperous 2008 for all of my great friends on this forum, those I've met and those I haven't met yet! Terry
  13. beautiful outdoors. 58 degrees , BRIGHT, sunny ,Sunday afternoon. i think i'll go start putting my bike back together. just jt
  14. Iv'e been thinking about putting my bike on ebay. For those of you that have seen it know that I have a couple of dollars into her. Probably close to $30,000. I would like to think I could get $20,000 for it. It's just getting broke in at 15,000 miles. I want to start on another bike , plus I have this GT Vert that I can't leave alone either. I just built a third garage and its gettig full already . What do you guys think ? Should I start taking the bike apart and selling all the stuff on it or just see what happens to it as a whole.
  15. So, I am thinking about getting a GPS unit. I know a lot of you have the ZUMO 550, others have Tom Tom etc. I just registered on the Zumo 550 forum to start learning about this type of technology, software, software needed, etc. I think I am now more confused than ever - in that it appears you have to do a lot of programming? I'm not really sure where to start in researching for this. I like (I think) the ZUMO - but would be looking for something fairly simple to utilize while on the road. Meaning, if I got to a location, decided to find some interesting back roads, can one just "push a button" and a unit tells you some neat roads? Looking at the ZUMO site, I guess I need to download some software into my computer, and transfer information between the two (computer/GPS unit?). I am not real savvy on computer programs, and/or .extensions. Is there one trip planning software better than another? I've been on rides where the guys have had laptops with them - and made new daily routes off the laptop into the GPS device - I don't have a laptop - hence wanting to "create routes on the fly". Can you do that? Sorry if these might be dumb questions, just looking for an area / forum to start learning this stuff. I am thinking if I am going to spend the money on something like this, I would want to use it to most of it's capacity. I would also not want to buy a "starter" unit, then have to upgrade in 6 months. Any help or suggestions from you "pros" and "gps newbies" out there????? Thanks in advance.:confused24:
  16. OK so I live beside a creek. My scoots are stored in a open shed enviroment. Today was 65 degrees and the engines were covered with heavy condensation. I don't think the water would bead heavier on the blocks if I sprayed them with a hose. This occurs quiet often in the winter and the scoots are harder to start when wet. The 84 failed to start this evening and thats a first at 65 degrees. I normally let the scoots idle for 15 - 20 minutes starting about every two weeks. I'm thinking this condensation is not good for the motor. Does the moisture also form inside the engine? What about the carbs and fuel tank? I have a mixture of seafoam in the fuel but this may help. I guess I should cover the scoots even in the shed.Rust a little every year because of this.
  17. Are you ready to lay 'em down? One of my Southern Cruiser Brothers and I have started a forum for Motorcycle entusiasts as a support group to kick the habit. We have just started it and I posted it locally. Since I am a member here, I thought there may be some of you who would like to join us. There is no cost. Official start date is Saurday, December 1st, so go buy your Chantix, gum or lozenges this week and join the soon to be smoke free! Check it out: http://forums.delphiforums.com/smokeout
  18. The battery on my 86 venture stranded me the other day. After i got a jump start i rode home and shut the bike off. I decided to see if the battery had enough juice to start the bike and of course it did. I was able to start the bike many times with a hot engine. After the bike sat for a week i went to start it and it cranked a bit then that was all. I guess i have a weak battery as i do not know how old it is. I have noticed that the volt gauge says around 14 or 16 volts when im riding but i notice a dimming of the lights when i hit the brakes. I guess that the stator puts out more amps at say 3500 rpm's versus 1500 or 2000 rpm's. I will replace the battery next spring but could a weak stator be part of the problem also?
  19. I'm sure, just like every other 1stGen owner, I always thought that if I ran into a clean newer 2ndGen at a steal price, I'd buy it. To be honest I'm getting tired of working on bikes. I know a lot of members are going to jump all over that statement, but I would really like something that takes normal service and runs down the road. Maybe there's no such thing? But I don't want to be a slave to a source of intertainment. I wanna ride. After reading about all the problems that 2ndGens are having.... both with dealer service, and common repeating problems.... I don't think a 2ndGen is much better than a 1st, and doesn't have much of a track record either. I get the feeling that it's buy a Venture, and become a mechanic. New or old...it doesn't make much difference. Another thing that's making me leary about the 2ndGen is it seems to be designed more for someone that's smaller. I've read a bunch about taller riders doing all sorts of things to create extra leg room, and I'm at the upper end of the horizontally challenged scale. I'm going to start broadening my search and start looking at other brands. There's got to be an answer out there somewhere.......I'm just getting the feeling it's not with Yamaha.....
  20. help i am blowing my headlight fuse to often do not know what could be causeing problem blowing fuse will not let me start with out replacing fuse
  21. Greetings: I ride a 2006 RSTD and the past few rides my shoulders and back get quite sore/tired resulting in my having to stop every 30-40 minutes. I have ridden about 18,000 km this past year and this is getting worse -( it was not bad at the start) I have been thinking about the Mustang seat and backrest. Those of you who have switched to a Mustang or even a Corbin - did you find this helped the stiffness and soreness? How about highway pegs - will that also help? Thanks in advance Eugene
  22. When I push on the start button of my 1990 Yamaha Venture I usually hear "click" and nothing else. Most of the time the engine will start after I push the start button two or three times. Do you have any idea of what the problem may be? (The battery seems good.) Thanks. Maurice.
  23. Took scoot to shop #2 to replace throttle cables & done today, but tech says LF Cylinder is not firing [?] He is also sure there is no electrical problem. He has no reason to tell me wrong, since he has bike in shop. I had carbs, diaphragms, plugs, sync, etc., done this summer at shop #1. They didn't notice LF cylinder is cold ?? Tech #2 says it can only be carb issue. Bike has always ran 100%, easy start, great power, instant start, etc. The only constant here is poor 32 MPG over the past 1.5 years. Techs will talk to each other today & bike stays at one shop or the other until fixed....or neither will 'remember' me or bike again. This makes zero sense to me. How can a dead cylinder NOT be diagnosed? I haven't spoke with Tech #1, who synced carbs, yet [he's out], but cylinders all had to be firing. So, What could this problem possibly be ??
  24. If somebody has or knows the circuit of a Royal Star 1997 please I need your support. I'm on my work, ride my bike this morning. And now, when time to lunch when I went to start it I have some strange noise from the bottom of the thank (like a relay bouncing) after I unlock the bike, and suddenly no more electricity on the full bike. Any clue? I check the fuse box and everything is OK. When I put the seat back there was back for a second but when I try to start it dissapears. I know that I have no problem with the battery, at least this is what I thought is a new bike. Any ideas will be appretiate, mostly if I don't need to call AAA to go back home... Thanks in advance You can reach me at 248-837-7556
