  1. Does anyone know if it is even possible for a bike as heavy as the RSV to hydroplane?? Just being curiously cautious... :no-no-no::no-no-no::no-no-no:
  2. As a future add-on, I am considering purchasing a Uni-Go Trailer to pull behind my "new" 2000 RSV. Anyone here have any experience with this trailer on the RSV or any other bike? Know anyone who does? It seems to have a small storage capacity, so I am not sure if it will accomodate my needs. It also appears that the trailer would require some type of adapter to work with the ball receiver on most bikes. Thanks for any help out there. BTW, I have visited their website and looked at their video. I really like the way the trailer seems to follow the path of the bike. However, at $2,300 it seems kind of pricey or am I just cheap? Are there any similar, less expensive units out there? Here is the link to video for anyone who may not be familiar with the Uni-Go or its setup. http://www.schoolhousemcacc.com/article_info.php/articles_id/5 Thanks again jarrejx
  3. I was wondering if anyone has a set of right side guards off a RSV. I am looking for the engine and saddle bag quards. Maybe off a wrecked RSV that went down on its left side. I have a 07 MRSV so this would be the 2nd gen gaurds. Thanks for the help guys and girls. TheKid
  4. Greetings all, I'm pretty sure I saw some photos of a decaled 2nd Gen RSV somewhere on this site last year. The bike was a white one (2004?) and the owner had applied beautiful blue coloured "flame" licks that ran along the sides of the tank, onto the side covers and continued on to the panniers. I'm seriously thinking of dressing up my 2004 RSV a bit, and would like to get something similar done. Who remembers the photos, or better still - who owns that bike and posted those shots? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks all. Stay safe.
  5. Haven't seen any posts recently about the next gen RSV. I believe the last was around Aug/Sep just before the news release on the 08s. I've been wondering, what if Yamaha goes the BMW route and puts an in-line 4 in the next RSV in '09 or '10? It would make it a completely different bike, but they do have an I-4 in the FJR1300 that cranks about 145 hp I believe. There're also a couple other things that could be taken from the FJR: standard ABS, FI, and optional clutchless, handlebar paddle shifting (or toe if you like). Yep, it sure would be a different bike--wouldn't sound right I don't believe. They could then maybe go back toward the 1st gen look--which I believe was ahead of its time. (I still like my 2nd gen, though.) I know I'm going to hate myself for this next questions, but . . . any comments? PS Is this way out of cycle? Like we talk about this topic each summer and fall only? I feel like the damned elections--about a year or two ahead of what should be.
  6. Check out this really custom RSV trike. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3ASS%3AUS%3A1123&viewitem=&item=330212387556
  7. A few days ago I decided to stop watching the snow fall and I went out to my garage where my 2008 HD ultra classic is parked. I started waxing the already clean and waxed paint job. I decided to sit on the passenger seat to see how comfy it is, because of the weather the boss has not got to ride it yet. Anyhow I could not believe how tight and scrunched (if thats a real word) it felt. I'm only 5'6 and I felt like I was 6'5 setting on the back. My knees were higher then my backside, and my back was straight up with no room to recline, not even a little. I'm sure if the boss has the same problems I'll be back on a RSV. At least if I go back to the RSV I should'nt lost my shirt on the HD. I got $3,500 off the msrp when I bought it because it's a Peace Officer model. One things for sure I'm not going to go buy all those pretty chome goodies until the boss is happy.

  9. I had to do some last minute shopping for a friend who owns a HD Ultra. I rode to a local leather shop but all I was able to find within my budget (hey, I like the guy, but we aint sleeping together) was a Guardian bell. I had no other choice but to brave it and walk right into the belly of the beast....yes, I rode to our local Harley boutique, parked my Gleaming RSV amongst the Harleys and walked in with my head held up high. I soon realized that Almost nothing was within my budget here either (see above referenced excuse). I ended up getting him a gift certificate and walked out. There was a small crowd around my Gleaming RSV. I nodded to a few who only just stared back. I smiled, sat on the bike and fired it up...letting those 98 ponies pulsate through those (gasp!) Road King Mufflers!!!!....I kicked it into gear with my Harley boots and in the wink of an eye I shot out of there to the amazement of several onlookers. I thought I heard someone say..was it a bird..was it a plane....well, you know the rest.....:rotfl::rotfl:
  10. I am looking at purchasing a bike in Montgomery, AL. It is virtually new - per the owners description. However, before I send a significant chunk of money to the owner, I would like to lay eyes on it. And since I am still snowbound in frigid Wisconsin, I was wondering if there is a set of surrogate eyes in AL that could help me out. I don't even need it to be ridden, although that would be OK also. Just want to know if it is as described. Is there someone who would be willing to help me out? Thanks, RR And, no, this is not replacing my beautiful RSV. It is an addition to the stable.
  11. Greetings friends, I'm new to the Venture. I have a 2005 model, and my questions are: Is there an aftermarket tach for the RSV? And, is there a rev limiter on these bikes? Can someone post the max spped in each gear, and the normal speed shift points? I came off of a VTX1800 to the RSV and haven't gotten the chance to ride it much due to the weather. So I'm kinda having trouble breaking myself of the VTX's characteristics.
  12. As far as the on-board intercom system on the 2nd Gens, are the connections the same as for the 1st Gens? Already have a helmets with J&M electronics that plug into the older VR...just bought a newer RSV & wanna verify they'll work without any mods on the RSV. I'm assuming they're the same but thought I'd check. Thanks!
  13. I only put about 20 miles on my 01 RSV since I got it 2 weeks ago. All write-ups talked about the "bubble of air" protection but never mentioned the stream of air which hits my knees that comes between the upper & lower cowlings. It does have the clear deflectors on the bottom of upper cowling and the wings on the forks. Anyone find after-market deflectors or something that stops or diverts this airflow
  14. I need help! I just received a Tom Tom 1 na am looking for an economical way to mount it to my 2006 RSV. Anybody out there with some experience or knowhow would be appreciatd. Thanks, Kenw:confused:
  15. I have an 07 RSV with 1 busted & 1 rashed/cracked saddle bags. I have opportunity to get new/used bags that are off a Royal Star Custom Cruiser. I checked the "bandit" site and the stock #s are off a didget or so from ea other - but they look identical and have the same 9.3 cu in capacity. I think that they are the same bags. Anyone know if these are identical/same (except for lettering of model name on the hinge plate)?
  16. There is a Midnight RSV with sidecar for sale on advrider.com. Link: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=298304 RR
  17. I was reading in my "Cruiser" magazine that Yamaha has discontinued the V Max. They said the RSV and RSTD are the last of the Yamaha V-4's. Man, I hope they don't discontinue the RSV.

    New Rider Question.......

Hi folks, I have only been riding about 2 years. Last week the wife and I decided to get a 2008 RSV. Prior to that we rode a Honda VTX 1300S. I realized that there would be a weight difference (The RSV is about 150 lbs heaver), and a much bigger bike overall, so I am prepared to get adjusted to the new rride, and I know it will take some time. I have about 13K on my other bike, so as I said still a new rider. After riding the RSV 2 weekends I seem to be fairly unstable at slow speeds especially riding 2-up with the wife on the back. We are both average size and I am about 6'-1". Don't seem to have any issues flat foot on the ground. I have developed slow speed issues particulary in parking lots trying to turn into parking spaces. Do I just need to give a little more time and be patient? Will the stability come back after I get used to the RSV? We absolutely love our new RSV and can't wait to take a couple of trips together this summer, But I don't want my wife to start getting nerveous (as she has never rode her own bike), and stop wanting to go on rides every weekend with me. Sorry about the rookie question, but you folks seem like a great group and I know that early in your riding days you may have experienced this your selves. Thank you Reggie - Tampa K4DNA:bighug:
  19. Greetings and Salutations: Just wondering if anyone has put Barron’s Starbar handlebar on their RSV with risers. I have risers but there not enough. Info appreciated. Thanks Chris
  20. Last Tuesday I picked up my 2008 Ultra Peace Officer Addition. Because of the wonderful weather in northwest Ohio I have only been able to put two miles on it so far. Not nearly enough to post a comparision on the 05 RSV that I had. So here is what I think so far. I do like having all the gages in the dash tach, oil pressure, amp, this is a big plus over the RSV. The HD sits lower in the seat, but it felt harder the move around in the garage?? To remove the side bags for cleaning you simply turn two locks inside the bags and presdo they lift right off (that cool) I notice much more vibration at the grips then I expected, but it seemed to smooth out once under way. The security system is pretty cool too, the bike arms itself once you walk away with the key. I'll be sure to post more once the snow and ice lets up and I can get out and ride. I'll try to post some pick if I can figure it out. Oh ya my insurance was over $100 cheaper for 12 months!
  21. We purchased our 2007 Midnight RSV in August. This is our first touring bike as my wife is enjoying being the passenger. Through the winter months I am shopping for accessories as we are planning some trips for summer 2008. We need a trunk rack bag that will hold lots and has compartments but at the same time won't be too big that it wont stay in place or overload the trunk lid. Does anyone have any ideas or pics of what has worked. We have seen one on Kuryakyn's website (Rollbag #830-516) That looks interesting. Has anyone used this one? Also looking for 3 piece windsheild bag that will fit the RSV. I am not sure how easy it would be to fasten it. I remember seeing a posting by one of the members but cant find it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. JR
  22. Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house the whole family was asleep and quiet as a mouse. When, from the garage, there arose such a clatter, I jumped from my bed to see what was the matter. And when I opened the door, it was plain to see, it was Santa trying to start the RSV. I said, Santa, what are you doing here? you should be out - spreading Christmas Cheer! Well my friend, I've had a stroke of bad luck. My reindeer are sick, and my sleigh is stuck. But what can I do to ease your way, you know the RSV can't replace your sleigh. But the jolly old man, with a twinkle of an eye roared out the door and into the sky. The gentle rumble of the pipes could be heard loud and clear. Letting everyone know there was nothing to fear. As he flew through the clouds, I could hear him say - "This RSV sure beats my sleigh". The moral of the story, is plain to see. When all else fails, you can count on the RSV. Merry Christmas Ventureriders Mackinawman
  23. What is the conventional wisdom for GPS for an RSV? I have a Magellan Roadmate 700 for my car, but it is not waterproof. It also may be a problem actually mounting it to an RSV or any motorcycle, for that matter. I don't know. At Best Buy today, the clerk told me that the GARMIN ZUMO was the only one that was waterproof and that when bikers came in to purchase a GPS, that seemed to be the one that was de rigueur. Yeah, but that thing was $900! So let's put her out there. Who is using what in GPS's on their RSV's? What do you recommend? I see them broadcasting into helmet speakers and all kinds of things. What about mounts for one like my Magellan 700? What do you have, what do you recommend, what can be mounted on an RSV, do you use Ram mounts, do you hard-wire them to the bike? What?
  24. Despite 26 degree temp.....Took delivery of my RSV this morning; did my pre-ride checks of the bike; and hit the road. Put 350 miles on her today and it was a sweet ride I tell ya! I am very impressed with the handling and power of this RSV. It meets all of my expectations and then some. Now I get to spend the next 2 months cussing our Winter weather here and doing the "wax on-wax off" routine with the bike. C'mon Spring...... Ride safe all......Regards....Boomer
  25. I have looked at pics everywhere on this Site and I have failed to find even 1 RSV that has Flag mounts capable of holding 2 3'x5' Flags for Parade or Funeral Escort use. I have been with the Patriot Guards for quite a while and I would love to be able to fly my 3'x5' Flags from my soon-to-be acquired 2006 RSV. If anyone can offer help regarding this please do so as soon as possible. Inclement weather riding does not bother me when it comes to PGR Missions for our fallen Hero's. Mods....If I posted this in the wrong place please feel free to re-locate this post to where it should be. My thanks in advance!
