  1. I needed some more room to stretch out on long rides. I thought about installing some crash bars and slap some pegs on 'em but they looked to be to far out and to high up. I want to relax not pull a muscle! So I saw some floorboard mounted highway pegs on a bike and started hunting them down online. $153 for the mounts! The ya had to buy the "mount specific" pegs. Screw that! I had some iso pegs laying around so what I did was bought me some hardened 1/8th in zinc plated L brackets from Ace Hardware for $8 and some nuts and bolts. All said and done right around $10. I cut the bracket to the length I needed with my trusty hacksaw and drilled the holes I wanted in the bracket the pulled the rubber pad off the board and drilled corresponding holes thru it. Bolted the brackets to the underside of the boards and drilled a mounting hole for the pegs. Badda Boom Badda Bing....took me about an hour. Will post pics if anyone is interested. Next up....I think I figured out a way to mount a windshield without having to buy all of Yamahas overly expensive stuff.......post more after I run a few prototypes. But Im thinking that instead of dropping the $500 with Yamaha or the $325 with Memphis Shades I can do the whole shooting match for about $150...and the mounting should be more solid.....I hope
  2. Just browsing the posts and saw the pics of the "great driveway embarrassment" of '07 and have this question: what is "the "walk it up" pick up theory"? My '03 RSV has had me down a couple times and fortunately I've been able to get it upright WHEN it's fallen uphill. Otherwise, it's hunt up lots of help. Is there a trick to this besides "don't let it get down in the first place"? Another post talked about mice farting in a tin can. My therapist has spent the better part of 5 years trying to convince me I'm the only one who'd trap mice for that purpose. Can't wait to share that post with her. And, finally, I'm going to give it my best shot to be in Charleston next Saturday for the meet and eat--I'll leave all furry things and duct tape home.
  3. Ok some of you have asked for a pictorial explanation on the second gear fix so here is the start. Step 1 remove outer and inner fairings, radiator cover, side coversfalse tank cover. Step2remove the radiator, crashbars, exhaust, pegs, front to back frame bar. This took me 45 min to complete while dinner was cooking. I will post more tomorrow after I get the motor out and split if I can find the problem with the engine as some of you know I am not removing the motor for second gear I am trying to find a noise in the transmission. Jeff Ok the pics wont upoad so I will try again in the morning
  4. How do I post a picture from someone's gallery in a post. I don't see the URL to embed it in the post. The one in the address bar doesn't work for that.
  5. Hey Guys: Any update on the bigger stators and rectifiers? Has Paul in California come through for us? Haven't seen a post for awhile. Just wanted to know what is the scoop. Sponge Bob It's a dry heat
  6. OK, I thought I'd post this AVI bite of what the MAC's sound like on my '83. It's a little better than the first. I was originally looking at Sept. as a date to start another list, but figured what the heck. So if anyone want's to be added, and we get another group put together, I'll put in another order when we hit the magic number of 10 or more.... I'll have to check with MAC on pricing since it's been a while and edit this post with the details. See below....
  7. I have the spacer size for the rotor covers 86-93, if anyone needs will post.
  8. I just received a PM from one of our members telling me that Gerry Calhoun passed away yesterday from an apparent heart attack. Though he didn't post much, Gerry was one of our Canadian members from New Brunswick. Our prayers got out to his family and friends.
  9. I don't think anybody posted a picture of Tom, so I thought I'd post the one from the front of the program for Tom's memorial service of which Sherry is riding in the rear. Of course, this pic goes back a few years. They were find folks, God fearing and all, and again; we will miss him. Rich
  10. Thought I'd start a helpful thread on where to buy tires. It seems that prices are all over the board and if we can convince some retailer that there are 2000 members here that will buy on price we may have some results. Personally I don't mind if a retailer makes some money on what they sell, that way I know they will be there for service when I need it and will also be there when I need more stuff, but sometimes I see a ripoff happening and then it's time to put some competition into the mix. So when you post here, let us know where you bought your tires and for how much, including shipping or what ever else you paid. Bought 2 Avon Vemons A41 and A45 for $500.00 mounted and balanced, Brantford ON 2006
  11. Hey Don, when you post the welcomes to new members, why do only some of the new members show up in the members list? Not all of them are showing up.
  12. This comes from a servicers website and I don't know if it has been posted before, but what are your thoughts? I have been using 91 in my 84VR and am wondering if it's necessary. The whole article does not seem to post well so here's the link: http://www.motorcycleperf.com/techtips/gasoline.htm
  13. had to make a post that we never forget ..........we lost a lot........but we didnt lose any friends! And thats what is important!
