  1. I think Oklahoma has found a cure for it's ecconomic worries. We were just notified by our SCRC State Officer that as of 1 November, Oklahoma has a new traffic law: Anyone ticketed for speeding in a construction zone (any speed) will face a MINIMUM fine of $1000.00. Anyone who has an accident in a construction zone...the fine starts at $5000.00 and if a hiway worker is injured you are looking at $10,000.00 ticket. Now I don't know about the rest of the contry, but here in Oklahoma they put out the construction signs and cones, then apparently go on vacation for the next 6 months before doing any work. Also, most of the time they don't work on weekends and holidays (or if it's raining, too hot, too cold, too windy, etc.) I try to keep an ear on the news and there hasn't been any widely publicised discussion on this, so I doubt many know of it. One person said they heard a short on the evening news one time, but that was all. So if anyone is passing through the OK state, beware!!
  2. Geez, I tried every trick in the book to get this unit to boot up but it's dead. Check out how many folks have had the same trouble as me! 44 pages of the same thing! http://www.zumoforums.com/index.php?topic=339.0 There is a definite problem with these units. Good news is that Garmin support has been very good with me and it looks like they will make it right. Hopefully, I will be able to find danob11 and Bummer tomorrow since I'm "blind"!
  3. Whats the deal here. Some cell providers charge for incoming calls. This was on a local tv newscast today.Nothing worse then telemarketers. http://www.wchstv.com/i/1x1spacer.gif EYEWITNESS LOCAL NEWS from Eyewitness News Online PESKY PROBLEM Cellphone Numbers Being Released http://www.wchstv.com/i/1x1spacer.gif Reported by: http://www.wchstv.com/bluemail.gif Rachel Tarr Videographer: Eyewitness News Web Producer: Jessica Reed October 1, 2008 1:36pm http://www.wchstv.com/i/1x1spacer.gif http://www.wchstv.com/newsroom/eyewitness/0810/i/081001_3000_320.jpg Eyewitness News Photo http://www.wchstv.com/i/1x1spacer.gif Today, all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies. If you don't want to get those calls, you can call 1-888-382-1222 from your cell phone to block the calls. You can also log on to donotcall.gov, and add up to three phone numbers you want blocked. Under a new law, these new registries will never expire.
  4. i don,t know the about the gas prices elsewhere but it has gone up here 1.00 over night !! and the news people say there is plenty off gas here in Fla. Thom
  5. I thought I'd share some news regarding a close friend and family. Cullen Bryant, 7 year old son of Jim Bryant (v4more here, and Jimb on the Venturer site) passed away this afternoon after courageous battle with cancer. It's difficult enough for a mother and father (and one surviving brother) to lose one child to cancer, but they lost their oldest son to cancer as well about 10 years ago. Many of the Twin-Cities area VentureRider members may have crossed paths with Jim over the years as he lives in New Richmond WI. Curt
  6. Learning early aren't we. Check out the news today. http://www.foxnews.com/video2/video08.html?maven_referralObject=2644581&maven_referralPlaylistId=&sRevUrl=http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,373615,00.html All I can say it must be a guy thing.
  7. Just saw Dr. this week after cat scan. Results show tumor is shrinking and starting to break up. Dr. still wants 2 more heavy chemo sessions so go in for one tomorrow. Still asking for prayers for complete recovery. Keep 'em coming. Don H.
  8. I've read several posts here about the Metzler tires self destructing and have wondered why. The reasons have varied from "no quality control" to "their just junk tires." I'm not a Metz fan--I run Avons--but I'm wondering if a thing I saw recently on ABC News could shed some light on the subject. It was an investigative report by John(?) Ross and dealt with the manufacturing dates on tires; some companies are selling tires that were produced as long as 10 or 12 years before they are bought off the shelf as "new." One of the consequences, according to the report, is "tires dried out on the inside" causing separation of tread at low mileages. They used anecdotal evidence for the most part--similar to the Bridgstone problem a few years back--but there was one shot of a tire in a cage that destructed while spinning. No guarantee that it was properly inflated or anything else though--just their implication that is was. By the way, they were going by the manufactured-date code on the tires. For instance, the code 199 translated to the 19th week of 1999 for manufacture. 1902 would be the 19th week of 2002. Mr. Tartan, can you verify any of this as feasible/plausible/probable? I gather you're in the business and I'm not sure I trust ABC News. (Can anyone else verify it?) Thanks for any input on this. Again, I'm just trying to get at the truth through objective evidence.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. Hazen got in a accident with his bike "deer vs Hazen" deer won but good news is Hazen is going to be. Bad news I thought I had put the full coverage back on it and I did not so it only had storage (: So what I would like to do is start looking for replacement parts without him knowing so I could suprise him.
  12. jeannie is back in a private room, again. makes 4 times she has been in a room, and hasn't spent 24 hours , in any of them. the GOOD news, is , the cancer Dr. came in this afternoon, and told us that her lymphoma, is a "very low grade". he said he isn't concerned about trying to fight it , for a while. first they need to fix her heart, and lungs, then re-test for cancer. her blood sugar went up to just over 400, last night, but is now back down around 180. thanks you all, again. for all the prayers and kind thoughts. just jt
  13. Notice the Union Pacific truck in the corner of one of the pictures… FYI...The Good news?: It was a normal day in Sharon Springs, KS when a Union Pacific crew boarded a loaded coal train to head on the long trek back to Salina, KS. The Bad news?: Just a few miles into the trip a wheel bearing became overheated and melted off letting the truck support drop down and grind on top of the rail creating white hot molten metal droppings to spew downward on the rail. The Good news?: A very alert crew noticed a small amount of smoke about halfway back in the train and immediately stopped the train in compliance with the rules. The Bad news?: The train just happened to stop with the hot wheel on top of a wooden bridge built with creosote ties and trusses. Remember now, this train was loaded with coal !!! http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain1.JPG http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain2.JPG http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain3.JPG http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain4.JPG http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain5.JPG http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain6.JPG RULES ARE RULES! Don't let common sense get in the way of a good disaster!
  14. The good news is that after waiting for about 6 weeks, Verizon FINALLY got my DSL installed today. The bad news is that it will only work if I take my computer outside, sit it on the central air unit, run an extension cord around the house to plug the DLS modem into, and connect it directly to the telephone junction box. The modem will sync out there but not when I connect it in the house. Apparently I've got some sort of problem with my internal wiring. Too many outlets or something. The thing is, we don't even use any hard wired phones in the house, only cellular, so I just have to trace out the jacks and disconnect some or just run a new cat 5 wire from the junction box outside. Maybe I'll get around to that tomorrow.

  16. Fridays at work are great...even better when I can fit motorcycles into the Ontario high school curriculum and spend the period talking about biking. Today's law class had a particularly lively discussion though. The evidence from an experiment conducted last year at a local racetrack was presented in Ontario court yesterday, with at least one man's desire that Ontario will be the next Canadian province (in addition to BC and MB) that will allow Sikhs to got helmetless. Very interesting news, and quite the fight our brothers on 2 wheels are putting up to gain this as a right. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080215.whelmet15/BNStory/National/home?cid=al_gam_mostemail Like our Venturerider moderators are already thinking...please, no racial slurs or religious comments should follow this post.
  17. i saw a short segment on the news this afternoon, that should "make your day"!!! it seems that the supreme court, has decided that some inmates(about 16000), nationwide, got harsher sentences for "crack cocaine", that the ones that were busted with powdered stuff! so - - - all 16000, are now eligible for reduced sentences, or immediate parole!!! good news is , you'll have fewer to watch over at work, bad news is - - - - your neighborhood will be repopulated! lol just thought i'd brighten up your day. just jt
  18. Finally found a trunk for the ride!! That's the good news! Bad news is that I still need the key/lock mechanism, and the backrest for the Mrs to lean on! I call upon the hordes of Venture owners to scrounge through their piles of extra parts to help a fella out!! The 85 trunk is the large one, I believe it was the first year the big trunks were introduced. If any of you fine people can help me out, just PM me. I'm not looking for donations, I'll gladly pay for parts, and reimburse shipping. Thanks to all the great people on this site. You have helped me with my bike in many ways!!
  19. Any one know if this was a member here..... there was a Black TD that went down in Houston last night.. the news said that the rider only had a hurt wrist.. Thank God that was all...

    Gps News

News on a GPS site mentioned that Garmin will put v.9 maps on units in spring. Those folks with current units (v.8) will get a Happy New Year from Garmin as they will upgrade yours for approx. $125.00 Some of you that won't be needing one (for bike) till spring might want to wait.
  21. I reccomend doing a Google Search of this subject " Deep Oil " ( not peak oil ) You will find several hits will come up. Read up, then ask yourself why we are not hearing much about this on the national news outlets ??
  22. Hey did anybody see this in todays news about Harley Davidson? http://www.topix.com/com/hdi/2007/11/motorcycle-maker-shuts-down-some-production-for-one-week I hear they will be having a big sale soon. Peggy:big-grin-emoticon:
  23. Tell me I didn't just see this on Ebay. ??????? http://i3.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/b9/20/f909_2.JPG This contraption is certainly news to me.
  24. I haven't been keeping up regularly, but I do try to read the posts at least once a week. Anyway, I just thought I'd take a minute to say hi to all the great guys and gals I've met through this post. I've no news to report: good, bad, or indifferent. Nope, just doing some reflections on a wonderful summer past and thought I'd say hi. So....Hi! Chuck
