Just placed an ad for a new GARMIN 2009 Map Update. The package is sealed, has never been opened and comes with an Authorization Code. I bought this to upgrade my ZUMO 550 but got a new one that already has the upgrade. First $80 takes it.

Gunboat - I just got back from my opthomologist, I thought my problem seeing was due to to 3 year old glasses - Turns out it is due to 66 year old eyes. I have a cataract in my right eye that needs to be removed and replaced with one of those new things. He explained it all but the point is I have surgery on the 20th and then follow up visits and eye drops for 3 weeks. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to map that out. There'll be no Arkansas nor Grand Canyon til the end of August or most likely the first week or so of September. BTW - guess what was on my side porch when I got home ??

I was looking up a couple things at work today and stumbled across this world economic map. It shows all the countries and what state the economic indicators are pointing to in that country. I am thinking we might all feel a bit better when we get a chance to look at the map and see that everyone seems to be in a similar boat to us, all over the world ,except parts of Asia and Central America. http://www.economy.com/dismal/map/default.asp Brian

I am sorry to report that as of June 1st, the discount from Motorcycle Superstore has been discontinued. I know that many of you had used it and hopefully there will be something else in place soon. Here is the notice that I received from them today. Hi Don, Due to the manufacturers MAP policy (minimum advertised price) we are no longer allowed to offer general group discounts. However, there are a few brands and exclusive items that are separate from the MAP policy. So yes, I will be sending you a new sort of code, but it will be item and/or specific, which unfortunately isn’t as enticing as a general coupon, but I will do my best to make the offer as enticing as possible. Unfortunately there will be a small delay, I apologize, but I will be in touch as soon as possible. Thank you for understanding.

As many of you know, the cover where I want to mount a map holder is plastic. I just spent more than a couple of hours looking at websites that have many different types and styles and none seemed "Venture Friendly" to me. So - anyone have a recommendation on brand/make/model of "tank luggage" you like for your first gen that has a map window on it? Thanks for your time!!! Larry

I think it would be neat to have a map that people could add motorcycle events to. It would really help people quickly locate when the next event near them is. To give you an idea of what I'm talking about check out this one of my favorite band's tour dates: http://www.crosscanadianragweed.com/dates/index.php I'm not sure if something like this is doable but I think it would be cool. Also while you are on that map go ahead and locate a Ragweed concert near you and check them out. You wont regret it.

I was wondering if anyone would recommend a good map for Touring. I am riding from Calgary to LasVegas in September. I would like to ride secondary roads and want to make sure I know where all the fuel stops are. Ideally I would like a map book that would cover both Canada and the U.S.

So, I picked up a REALLY cool new toy, a GPS transmitter, for a few reasons. One- to enable folks on this forum to follow, in almost real time, my bike travels. Two- for my wife to have comfort knowing where I am, esp. when out of cell range, on my long trips. -Mtn. biking alone in the trails, this can send an alert of my location, should I whack a rock or something. So, I have a GPS transmitter I've been playing with for a week or so. Click here to see my recent travels: http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=07AVc4aiQsNh8cYYCBy7sbYRAizTEtyEW You will see a map on the right, with a bunch of foot prints with numbers. Those are my "tracks". Every 10 mins. the GPS "Spot" transmit my location. On the left is a list of the spots it transmitted from. Hover the mouse over one of the tracks and the correlating footprint on the map will, for lack of better term, radiate waves. Go to the satellite or hybrid view and you can see what activity I was doing this past Tuesday. Anyways, I have a trip starting on Sept. 6th, early am. Wanted to post this here now to make sure it's working as intended prior to leaving. I will put the spotter in track mode starting at, uggh, 4am on the 6th. Then, if you're really bored, you can visit this site and see where I'm at. I'll also try to post a couple messages to the board during the trip via Blackberry. What can I say, I'm a geek at heart.

If your heading out on vacation and say O I almost forgot to upgrade Garmin to 09 map forget it. Depending when you bought your unit you may be eligible for free upgrade to 09 map or you may just be buying it. Point is, it takes anywhere from 2 to 4+ hours to download depending on your computer. This is also assuming you have high speed internet. Longest download I ever did. I also want to say that if you purchase a Garmin on e-bay or any auction site Garmin will NOT honor warranty. There are some good prices on line and they state full warranty but not true. Garmin states this on warranty paper in box.

:think:Remembering that I know nothing about how computers work....and this may be impossible...but is there any way that there could be a map put on the website for each state, with the ability for members to "red line" favorite routes that they have traveled. For instance, Gary and I plan on going to Kentucky next summer. I have never been to Illinois(except Galena and Savanna), Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky etc. Neither one of us like interstate travel and love the back roads. It would be nice to be able to see some routes that others have traveled and really enjoyed. We travel to Central and Southwestern Wisconsin all the time. Yeah, the Great River Road (35)is nice, but the smaller roads are so much twistier, scenic and less traveled. It would be nice to let others know which ones are worth riding. I know members are good about writing roads down, but it would be nice to be able to see it on an actual state map. I know we would have really used it this summer on our trip to the Black Hills. I don't know if it's even possible or how much work it would be, just thought I'd ask!

Man it's smoky. Caugh...caugh...hack!! Nor-Cal is on fire. Last report I heard we have 800 fires going.... and the smoke is everywhere. The sun looks like a big ol' harvest moon. Wish a breeze would kick up and blow this stuff out of the area. Tomorrow morning I'm leaving for ID for a couple of days, and looking forward to breathing clean air.... FIRE MAP
