  1. I have seen where some were asking about muffler for venture that sound good but not loud. The yamaha shop gave me at set off of a 2007 tour deluxe. has the same the part number as the ones on my 2000, except they have moveable tips. I used a dremel tools with a cut off disk, went up in the muffler 1 inch and cut the tube, pushed it to the side and put them back on, they sound great, but are not loud unless under full throttle. also you can't tell the mod has been done looking at the muffler, nor can you run the stick up into muffler to check the baffle. This can be done to any 99 up venture, it was easy to due only takes about an hour. You do need the extension set for the dremel tool. Gregg:big-grin-emoticon:
  2. I just came across this video on YouTube. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ6A5yBT9Fk]YouTube - 2004 yamaha venture engine[/ame] It's a little loud but this is the best sounding Venture that I have ever heard. Anyone know which exhaust this is?
  3. BigBoyinMS

    Loud!

I was tearing down my RSV getting ready to install a new rear tire. Since I had the mufflers off I wanted to see just how loud it was. Blam, that's a loud summagun!

    Exhaust

This is my first time posting on here. Exhaust question- is louder better or not? I have almost been ran out of the road before because of someone in a car not hearing or seeing my bike. I have noticed when riding in my truck that if a motorcycle with loud exhaust is beside of me then I can hear it before seeing it. If you change exhaust do you have to have the carb. rejetted? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Hairman
  5. I have a pair of J&M headsets (584s I think). Often times, when I plug in the lower cable, and turn the ignition switch to ON, I get a loud SQUEAL through the IC (no...it's not the wife)! Sometimes I get the squeal if my wife disconnects her lower before I turn the bike off. When cruising, I have to turn the IC up to > 15 in order to hear my wife (don't say it). Three questions: 1) Has / is anyone else expperiencing this annoying squeal? 2) What kinds of things should I check? Could it be an issue with the radio? 3) When I turn up the IC loud enough so I can hear my wife, I hear what appears to be alternator noise. Is this "normal"? Most times, the IC volume has to be 18 in order to be able to have a conversation. Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  6. What can be done with the exhaust system on an 05 Tour delux. I'm looking for a louder rumble. I had deafening on my last bike and while attention getting, there was enough draw backs I don't want something that loud again. and I don't really want to get the drill out either, help me guys what's available (links or pic's if you got 'em please)
  7. When starting out slow or just rolling forward, I can hear what sounds like the slight sound of metal rubbing against metal. And as I get faster the sound gets faster. It's not real loud, but loud enough to know it's there. My brakes are good and I see nothing rubbing. And I can only hear it in my rt. ear coming from the rt side. Thanks.
  8. When I turn on the CB I hear what I would call white noise - a fairly loud hiss - It's level doesn't change with volume or squelch. Is this normal? When I transmit the other side hears a fairly loud humm together with my voice at a very low volume?? is that normal? How much clarity can I expect from this system ? I have a SWR meter but can't figure out how the wire connects to the antena - I see nothing in the manual?
  9. R LOUD Mounted 2 of them. 1 Chrome on the outside and had one under the bike mounted to where the AIS was. Now its loud enough to scare me and I'm expecting it cause I am the one that pushadabutton. Using 1 30 amp relay and a 20 amp fuse. 12 gauge wire feeding the relay and 2 14 gauges coming off the relay feeding the horns.
  10. I resently was given a set of Bub sleeper slip on mufflers that the chrome tips were pealing badly. Took them to a powder coater who stipped the rest of the chrome (Media blasted) then powder coated them w/ high temp (1000 Deg) black satin. While I had them apart I repacked the baffles w/ 4 stroke packing material. They soung great, not to loud but a nice growl.
  11. Used CB all day today during group CMA ride. Leaving a parking lot, I tooted my weak stock horn to get someone yakking to get with the program. But man, my horn was actually LOUD! WOW! Got to the end of my ride and pulled up beside my wife's bike and told her "CHECK THIS OUT!". It was so loud it about knocked me off the bike. She said "sounds as cheesy as it always does". I took my helmet off and hit it again. Same weak toot. unplugged the helmet, switched to the speakers, hit the horn and BAM, horn sounds out of speakers (remember, headset and therefore mic are not plugged in). Turn off CB and leave just radio on and no problem. HELP!!! If I turn up the CB loud and forget and blow the horn, I am gonna be hurting!
  12. Just changed my windshield from a Show Chrome to a Large Clearview. Seems to have added some new sounds to the repertoire. The whine isn't as loud because the sound of the lifters seem to be chiming in. As far as the wind protection, it's much better.
  13. Hello again everyone. Boy, I am just full of questions today. haha Seems that I just don't get the power out of my stereo that my buddy gets on his 93 RSV. When he plays his stereo while riding, I can hear it. Faintly, but I can hear it. When I play mine, I have to crank it to full 30 and although I can hear it, it just isn't as loud enough and it is very distorted. When I am using my headset, I can't make out the music. Oh, I can hear music playing but it is more noise than anything else. And again, distorted. And with the constant open mike picking up all the outside noise, wind, bike, my own breathing, it is more nerve racking than anything. Also very hard to talk back and forth with my wife. She can barely hear me and I can hardly make out what she is saying. ANOTHER THING: Thought my buddy and I would try out the CB part of our system last weekend. His bike was about 50 feet away from mine. When I talked to him through my headset, it was so freaken loud, I could hear it come from his bike. It scared him and he had to turn it down. When he talked to me, I could hardly hear him at all, and my volume was turned up all the way (30). Any ideas? Is my stereo defective? Are there any not so obvious settings that I have not adjusted? Thanks.
  14. I have an 06 RSV and am using the JM helmet sets. I can hear my own voice in the headset, and that OK but the feedback is too loud. I must talk fairly loud so that passenger can hear on intercom but it doesn't need to be that loud in MY ears. Volume control doesn't adjust feedback volume. Can the feed back volume be adjusted??
  15. I have a fairly new set of Jardine exhaust for a lst Edition. The pipes are presently installed on my 88 VR. They have been on for approximately three months and personnally, I don't like them because for me, they are too loud. They are in excellent shape maybe a little dusty in places. I am now looking to trade someone these Jardines for a really good set of stock mufflers. Anyone interested? Let's talk.
  16. I found this posted by scottybye on the ISRA forum and thought I would post it here. A letter from……THE BIKER When you see us moving past you quickly: Don't take offence or think we're trying to "show off". Ninety five percent of the time, we're trying to get out of your blind spot or taking ourselves out of a potential dangerous situation that has evolved around us. Distancing ourselves from you does not mean we want to race, but that we're giving ourselves the edge we need at the moment. When you hear our horn: Don't take offence or think we're trying to aggravate you. All we're doing is letting you know where we are in relation to you on the road, and we're more than likely aware of your inattentiveness to us while you're talking on a cell phone, eating, reading or involved in some other distracting aspect to your driving. It's important to us, and you, that you know we're there. When you hear our loud pipes: Don't become angry and hostile toward us. Yes, some are quite loud, but for some, there's a purpose behind being loud. It's about letting you know we're close by and we're constantly hoping that our investment in this accessory will help save our lives. Our pipes are really not about our ego...it's a pride and personalization to our form of transportation. When you see us in our clothes: Don't become fearful of us or think us weird. Our leather jackets, chaps, gloves and boots are the barriers between loosing massive amounts of flesh should something cause us to go down...nothing more, nothing less. Safety gear is paramount to our riding. We wear patches on our jackets, and pins on our vests. These are symbols of pride and honour within our group(s), individuals giving back to those who gave. These things bond us as a brotherhood and sisterhood among bikers. Not that we're better than anyone else, but that we have the same kind of nobility and pride in our accomplishments as you may have in the various aspects of your life. I guess one could say; our patches and pins are the decals and the bumper stickers of our involvement with society and the general public, of which we are very pleased to be a part of in our own little way. When you see us in a restaurant: You don't have to shield your child or feel intimidated. We have family, wives, husbands, children and loved ones too, just like you. We smile; we laugh and enjoy the moments we have. We are approachable, and would befriend you, if given the opportunity. When you see us in a parking lot: Don't convince yourself that we're there to "get you". More than likely, we just finished a long ride and are taking a break. Or, we may be meeting up with other riders for a charity run for young children, or another very worthy cause. We may just be admiring one another's bikes, sharing our pride with other brothers and sisters, just like you do with your personal vehicle. It's what we do...it's a part of our lives, and we'd be more than welcome to share with you what riding a bike is all about...if you'd only ask. When you see aggressive riding bikers: Don't put us all in the same stereotypical category as those whose behaviour and actions would cause you to react in disgust and intolerance. Many of us do not agree with this style of riding either, and we know and understand that human nature tends to blend us all together as the "same group". Most of us don't want that title...and don't deserve it. When you see a group of bikers on the roadways: Give us the courtesy of sharing the road with you. Please don't "move in" between several bikers in formation. This gets us very excited and nervous, especially when it's done with no due regard for our safety. Provide us with your awareness of the fact that we are much more vulnerable than you. We don't want to challenge you, for all of us are wise enough to know...we'd lose that battle. When you are turning left or entering a roadway/highway: Look, then look again...and then one more time. For we can be easily hidden, and appear to be invisible by such things as a telephone pole, another vehicle, bright lights or the glare of the sun...or possibly, the beads hanging from your rear-view mirror, among numerous other items that are displayed there. If you see us flashing our lights at you or blowing our horn, we're only trying to ensure that you will see us before tragedy changes both our lives. When you are behind us: Please give us the room we need and don't tailgate us. If you hit us, we're going down...HARD! We don't want to play games with you, we just want to enjoy the ride and the fresh air, and experience that which many of you have never lived for. If we accelerate away from you, don't interpret this action as though we want to drag race you. We're only trying to take ourselves out of a bad situation if you insist on being too close. When, and if, you experience road rage: Don't take it out on us just because we're smaller than you and more vulnerable. Think about what you're doing and the end result that may become a reality. The consequences of your actions and choices could be very detrimental to our well being, our families, our children and our loved ones. Yes, there are those that can tend to piss you off, however, rage towards them will not solve the issues, but accentuate them. Nine out of ten bikers will do everything they can to take themselves out of that situation without causing you or them harm. When you have an opportunity to talk to us: You'll discover, outside any influenced or stereotypical mindset you may have, that we are just as human as you are, just with different interests and toys. Many of us would give you the shirt off our back if it would tend to brighten your day or console you in some way. We're really no different...and we drive cars, trucks and vans too. So, meet us and greet us...I think you'll be pleasantly surprised that you'll be met with open arms. Thank you for attempting to understand
  17. newbie here and a newbie venture owner... don't even have it in the Garage yet but already getting ready to customize it and have an exhaust question- I really like the look of the 4 into 4 slash cut exhaust setups I've seen on some of the models. Can anyone point me to brands, models, and recommendations for pipes of these types? Are there any that are quieter than others? I'm not a fan LOUD and actually prefer quiet most of the time but like to hear some rumble on acceleration. I owned a v65magna for years and loved how smooth and quiet it was heading down the highway... not necessarily looking for that, but not anything too loud... Looking forward to picking everyone's minds as i begin to customize my new ride- J 07 Venture Galaxy Blue
  18. A FRIEND IS LOOKING AT THESE AND WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAVE TO JET WITH THEM AND HOW LOUD ARE THEY? I TOLD HIM IF ANYONE KNEW THEY WOULD BE ON THIS SITE.
  19. I guess I need an electrical wizard here. Horns we barely working. I tried adjusting the screw on the back, nuttin worked. I purchased two new units, described by the manufacturer as loud and annoying, they even came with ear plugs. Cleaned up all the connections , and put them on. They work, not annoying and not loud. The headlight does dim when you push the button. I tried spraying the horn button with cleaner(contact ) , still the same. Help................... joe
  20. I have a 2006 RSTD all I have changed on it is the air filters to (K&N) and I put a set of road king exhaust on it I like the way it sounds now. But when I throttle down to change gears I get a loud Pop most of the time but not always. Now I have read that with these changes I do not need to modify the carbs but why am I getting the backfire? Thanks for the help. PRNTTEK
