  1. Since I started actively watching this site a month or so ago, I can't help but notice.....there are ALOT of ice cream lovers on this site. Up until now, I thought there was something wrong with me....friends often make fun of me for "diving off the road" every time I see a DQ. I've finally found a site with like minded, intelligent, fun loving, motorcycle riding ice cream lovers. I think I'm gonna fit right in!
  2. Yesterday afternoon I had to deliver a big pile of my grandsons outgrown yard toys to a friend for his grandson. I load up the back of my truck and the wife and off we go. There is a popular ice cream joint a couple miles from the house and as we go by I spot a pretty Gen1 in the parking lot with its owner and daughter near by. I immediately yell out "Hey Karl". Karl never even bothered to look up, and as I getting ready to yell again the wife wonders out loud if he might hear me a little better with the window rolled down. Doh! So, the question is, should I have pulled in so we could get ice cream too, or should I feel foolish for yelling thru a closed window?
  3. True write up in the Flint Journal. Guess you could also say Ice Cream and Booze don't mix. EGELSTON TOWNSHIP — Jeremy Allen Baldwin probably wishes the tub of lemon chiffon ice cream he allegedly stole from an Egelston Township shop Sunday hadn’t melted during his intoxicated walk back home. Had it not been for “splatters” of melted ice cream leading investigators from Joni’s Cones, 5283 E. Apple, to a partially eaten tub of ice cream and Baldwin’s cell phone, the 22-year-old Egelston Township man may have gotten away with it. http://media.mlive.com/chronicle/news_impact/photo/9518430-small.jpgMuskegon County Jail Jeremy Allen Baldwin, 22. Instead, Baldwin is facing a 10-year felony for allegedly breaking into the ice cream shop early Sunday morning during what police say was a drinking bender. Baldwin, of 859 Chandler, was arraigned Tuesday in Muskegon County's 60th District Court before Chief Judge Harold F. Closz III on one count of breaking and entering of a building with intent. A preliminary examination is slated for 9:30 a.m. May 10. Closz set his bond at $20,000 cash or surety and — noting that Baldwin is unemployed — granted him a public defender. According to the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office report, Baldwin had been drinking “whiskey and beer all night” Saturday and early Sunday before walking from a nearby party to the ice cream shop. Police said Baldwin allegedly entered the shop through a window and once inside, ate ice cream and ransacked the place before walking off with the 3-gallon tub of lemon chiffon. Investigators at the scene found Baldwin's shoes and followed “ice cream splatters on the sidewalk” eventually to a cell phone that was traced back to Baldwin, whose wallet was also located in the general area. On Tuesday, Mike Bowen, 26, one of the owner’s of Joni’s Cones, said Sunday's incident was "odd." Bowen discovered the break-in had occurred Sunday morning when he drove by the shop and saw a pair of shoes outside the door and screens ripped off the windows. Upon further inspection, Bowen realized nothing — other than ice cream — had been taken. “He took a 3-gallon tub of lemon chiffon ice cream that he left on Apple Avenue,” Bowen said. “He also ate some of a 3-gallon tub of Blue Moon that was left inside.” Bowen said because the shop hadn’t been opened for the season, there was “no money there.” “I don’t know what he planned on gaining from it, besides a trip to jail,” Bowen said. Once investigators identified Baldwin as a suspect Sunday, they spoke to the still-intoxicated man at his mother’s Chandler Street home and again at the sheriff’s office, authorities said. Baldwin told police during the interview that: “If you found my shoes next to the ice cream shop door, then I must have broken into it,” the report said. “He said that it wouldn’t surprise him or anyone else if he did break into this business because he does do stupid things like that when he is drunk,” the report said. Baldwin told investigators that he has a “drinking problem” and on Sunday likely “blacked out from all the alcohol he drank.” A friend who had driven Baldwin to the party Saturday night was interviewed Sunday. That man told police he is aware of Baldwin’s “problem with drinking” and referenced a previous night of drinking at a friend’s Twin Lake home. “He said that the next day they found him miles away sleeping in someone’s yard, and he had no idea how he got there,” the report said.
  4. There were a couple questions about having sugar free ice cream at MD - I asked Keith Schlonager, my supplier about sugar free, this was his response: Yes we do. We make it with the Agave nectar. There has been some questions about this agave, but we have been selling it for about 4 years and no one has come back and said it raised their sugar. We have had some people test their sugar and found after 2 hours no increase in their sugar levels. It does seem to make the ice cream a bit more harder and a bit icy though. Please do your research on it, it's your decision. If the diabetics agree that this is a product that can be used then I will order a container and most likely it will be Vanilla. Please keep your responses limited to what you actually prefer, not what you think Big Tom will consume I found this link about Agave Nectar http://www.allaboutagave.com/
  5. We wish you a wonderful 50th birthday, Jay! Hope you have a blast today and have a great bike ride with lots of ice cream and cake!!!
  6. After consulting the boss (no, not Linda )I'm talking about Freebird and much discussion he has decided to test the water and see how much interest there might be in having home-made ice cream at MD this year. It already has been decided that there will be 4 flavors, Vanilla, Chocolate, Reeses peanut butter cup and Black cherry. It will all be home-made by Schloneger's of Dundee Ohio. I know some of you have had his ice cream because he has a 'permanent' stand across the street from Lehmans Hardware in Kidron Ohio and I've had the pleasure of working beside him at Atwood Lake for the past 11 years, hence my enlarging belt size. Getting back to MD - My intention is to buy a small chest freezer, take it to Don's and make it a permanent fixture in his greenhouse. We can then have home-made ice cream at MD without spending the man hours to make it. Whatcha think ??
  7. hello all for all of you up north. If you are tired of shovelling all that snow and ice. I can help. Just come on down and cut my yard.. I have a BRAND NEW push mower . I will pay you with ICE TEA and BBQ. http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/188662_199146386771003_100000269280526_683497_522417_s.jpg Thanks George C.
  8. I had an ice dam form and start leaking into my livingroom overnight, we awoke to find our couch and carpet soaked, and a hole in the drywall ceiling We may get a small ice dam every now and then, but , with all the snow we have had and a little freezing rain, it had blocked the ridge venting on the roof allowing it to create the ice. Just a little reminder to those that have the ridge venting, look at your roof, if you can't see that the ridge vents are clear, you may be next to have this damage inside your home.
  9. I never knew this. Penguins http://ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f6603%5fAIEIw0MAAHnWTWJlhgA9enP9khE&pid=2&fid=Inbox&inline=1 Did you ever wonder why there are no dead penguins on the ice in Antarctica - where do they go? Wonder no more ! ! ! It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic bird which lives an extremely ordered and complex life. The penguin is very committed to its family and will mate for life, as well as maintaining a form of compassionate contact with its offspring throughout its life. If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other members of the family and social circle have been known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial wings and beaks, until the hole is deep enough for the dead bird to be rolled into and buried. The male penguins then gather in a circle around the fresh grave and sing: "Freeze a jolly good fellow" "Freeze a jolly good fellow." "Then they kick him in the ice hole." http://ca.mg4.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f6603%5fAIEIw0MAAHnWTWJlhgA9enP9khE&pid=3&fid=Inbox&inline=1 You really didn't believe that I know anything about penguins, did you? It's so easy to fool OLD people. I am sorry, the devil made me do it!!! I fell for it too.
  10. These are a couple of pictures of the left over ice from the storm that went through a couple of days ago. It is where the snow built up on a deck railing, then later the ice formed over it. When it warmed up some today, the snow underneath melted first leaving these ice domes. They are very fragile, some collapsed when I walked on the deck. 11. Thought you might all enjoy this one. Slushy ice flow makes it look like frozen lava flow. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=9V9p4mFEYXc&vq=medium#t
  12. Just curious, as I get lots of strange comments from perfect strangers, as to why I am still riding my VR in the middle of winter. I try to ride everyday that is free of snow and ice so I was wondering who else is enjoying those nice brisk morning/evening rides?
  13. :sign20:This morning got up to go . You know how it is ,You only had 4 hours of sleep, you get ready, jump in the SUV, pick up your friend ,he's in the same condition you are, walk to you favourite fishing hole, drill the holes, 6 inches of ice ,safe enough and still half asleep realizing that your body is sort of freezing ,Your minnow are frozen to the ice. your coffee is frozen and the Kobassa is like a steel bar, winds are 20-25 kph and your cheeks are numb. Call the weather office from the lake its -27c and the windshield factor is -35C Packed up and go home to thaw out Im still thawing out
  14. I've got to admit, I'm not a huge fan of TV shows today. Not a lot on that interests me. Honestly.....I gave up on cable long ago and only bought a converter when they dropped the broadcasting. (Under threats from my daughter) I turned the idiot box on the other night and flipped through the channels. Nope.....nuttin worth watching. So.....I got to thinking I can not be the only one that wants to beat the box to death and make some extra room for something useful. Like inhouse parking for my bike. So rather than wreck havoc with a sledge hammer I decided to try to change the programming of what we see. Thought I toss it into the bull pen and see what other folks might want. Dancing with the stars ........ not good. I read an article a while back that a man took a shotgun to his TV during that show. I'm sorry, but I understood that feeling. But then again he pointed the shotgun at his wife also. Again...over the top but hey, I can understand that also. She probably was holding the remote. Now they have spun that off into "Ice Skating with the Stars". Ok. Not working for me either. One of my ideas that I want to summit is this. Let's add a twist to "Ice Skating with the Stars" ok. Pair the professionals ice dancers up the professional hockey players. See where I'm going with this? Make it interesting....add some excitement....throw in a lil danger! I'm thinking this would be a popular show. So anyone have an idea for a new show? (I haven't ridden in two weeks, so forgive me) Mike
  15. So I wake up this morning and the temp is just a touch over 30. My looonng gravel driveway is "finally". free of ice so I think I'll take a little ride. Fire up the bike and head out. Temps are cool, but I'm dressed to ride and am nice and comfortable. Go around a curve on this road I've ridden 1000 times..I'm not flying low, but I'm not dogging it either. Just a nice brisk pace, and there, right in the middle of a curve I see ICE, with water on top..ALL the way across the road for a distance of about 20 feet!!! (Broken waterline!) Holy Cr-p batman!! Well, I slithered through (thank the Good LORD!) without dropping it, so me and the bike are both ok, 'cept for that wrinkle in center of the riders the seat I'll have to try and remove somehow:scratchchin:.. Moral of the story is ALWAYS be extra careful in the winter. I was doing fine and found this on a day when every other place I rode was clear and dry. What a thrill!
  16. Amazing facts I just learned about Penguins ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ A little bit of natural history....... Amazing.............Penguins Did you ever wonder why there are no dead penguins on the ice in Antarctica - where do they go? Wonder no more!!! 22. If you like ice cream and we all know that we do you owe it to yourself if your ever down Florida way to seek this brand out and try it. I know we all love our DQ but this stuff beats DQ hands down....... http://www.workingcow.com/ Me and Jean have two shops we make a special ride to. One is in Fernandina Beach FL right in the middle of the downtown area. We get our Waffle cones and hang out on a park bench watching all the strange tourists. The other one is a roadside stand on the north end of Flagler Beach. Ocean view as well as bikini view. Just downright good stuff....
  23. Looks like I beat you to it Jack, although I don't have pictures to prove it... Condor was nice enough to meet up with me as I passed through Sacramento, CA to where I stopped for the night [just north east of Sacramento]. He had ice cream while I had dinner.... then Ice Cream - which was very VERY good ice cream, by the way. I had a 'small dish'... Just wanted to say that it was a real treat meeting Jack in person and he seems like a great guy. Thanks again Jack. If you ever get through Lubbock, or nearby - let me know you are welcome anytime
  24. Well, National Ice Cream day is here and almost gone...Now I have to wait another year to celebrate....:bawling:I HAD MY SHARE, DID YOU? :fnd_(16):
  25. For anyone in/near New Hamburg, ONT. Just wanted to let y'all know that a new ice cream store has opened up. It's called Swirlz. Located at 385 Waterloo, New Hamburg, Ontario. Now for the sake of disclosure... the store is owned by my sister and brother-in-law. But don't let that stop you from swinging by. It's a new venture for them, and if it goes, I figure I will be able to sponge off them in my old age. If anyone stops in, tell them I said hi.
