1. The time has come to get rid of my 1st gen. This bike is just not for me.It is a great bike but I use it as a daily rider. The Venture needs to be ridden two up and out touring the country and not ridden daily to work.I am loaning the bike to a friend of mine that may be interested in buying it.If not I will place it in the classifieds.I really miss my Vstar as a daily rider.
2. Last sunday two of my buddies were out for a nice afternoon ride. Slowed down to cross railroad tracks when man in pick-up truck struck my one buddy from behind running him over and killing him. Trying to convict the driver of vehicular man slaughter. My friend is leaving behind a wife and two small children. The family could really use your thoughts and prayers
3. I just got this in an email. Pretty good story. Duct tape is our friend
4. Long time friends have a daughter with terminal cancer and today they had a poker run to help defray some medical expenses. I didn't know about the run until this AM but decided I could at least make the starting point and help with a donation. It was a 120 mile run with the 5th stop being an afternoon cook out. Hot dogs, hamburgers, ham, slaw, potatoes, baked beans, soda and iced tea. There was some other stuff to eat but I'm on a diet so I didn't pay too much attention. I didn't get an official count but another friend was manning the last station and he had, when I left, 87 cards turned in. What a GREAT day !! oh yeah, my thumb went numb a couple times but it was well worth it. btw - I reaffirmed today that I shouldn't bother playing poker
5. Maintenance day is so busy that I often don't know who is doing what. I want to thank some folks but am afraid that I'll miss somebody, in fact, I know that I'll miss somebody so if any of you other can help me single out the folks who worked so hard to help others, it will be appreciated. As usual, V7Goose worked his butt off helping as many people has he possibly could. That guy is like the energizer bunny, I don't know how he does it but thanks MUCH Kent. Monty was hard at work helping people with gauge installs. I hardly saw him throughout the gauge. I know that the folks appreciated it and he did a great job. Ponch showed up a little later but I understand also got busy with the gauge installs. You have developed a great product for us Ponch. Thanks much for all that you do. Dingy not only arranged for us to do the Quaker Steak and Lube dinner on Friday night but was also there all day Saturday offering his assistance to anybody who needed it. Muffinman came all the way across the big pond just to work his butt off as usual. Thanks my friend for all your help and for just being the great person that you are. Squidley was running from bike to bike as usual. Syncing carbs and doing whatever else had to be done. I was unsure if he was going to make it this year but there he was. Thank you my friend. A lot of you ladies helped out with getting the food ready to be served. I know that I saw Mini in the kitchen as well as Becky and Lonna. There were others too but I just can't remember who all was lending a hand. So thanks to all and to the many others that joined in to help your fellow riders. I KNOW that I'm missing many. Please jump in here and offer a word of thanks to all who lent you a hand.
6. well i went out today to look at bikes with dianne. she.,s the one who had the accident with her ninja. we looked at v stars im not impressed with them. sorry . just my opion. shes still in the looking stage. still has time since she needs to let that broken wrist heal. well we got home and drove by my place and my bike was gone!!!! i went **** the police took it? she laughed and said i had it towed. to a place who is going to work on it. and its my treat to you? she said she tould them to do up to 600.00 in repairs? wow i love this woman as a friend of course. heres the kicker. while shes gone. i have to paint the garage door and watch the dogs. cute little beagles. so its going to get fixed still need them bleeder screws that where sent many thanks for that.
7. I posted this in the Trike area a week ago and received no replies, to I thought I'd throw it out here. It is to help a friend that is trying to get back to biking again... Front tire for GW trike... I have a friend that just bought a '93 Gold Wing trike. He had been trying to get back on a bike for several years but is slightly paralyzed in one arm and had to go with a trike. The front tire is a Dunlop EIII 130/70R-18 and is in need of changing. Are there any alternatives that he could use? It looks as if the trikes mainly upright stance wears out the center of the tire prematurely. Any suggestions? Thank you! Don __________________

9. can i ask for a prayer for a friend of mine? shes the one who drives the pink crotch rocket well she was going home from work yesterday and was heading straight. with a green light when a lady made a right hand turn on a red or should i say she made the right but didnt stop for the red. my friend hit the back of the car. there are skid marks from her hitting the brakes. i shouldnt say she hit the rear more like the quarter panel and it took her down. speed limit is 35 mph as this road soon leads to a 55 mph highway. well she has a broken right wrist. a sore right knee. but she wheres full body gear. thank god. the driver of the cage was charged with improper turn. failure to give right of way. her excuse was her dog jumped in her lap and she didnt see the motorcycle. so they charged her with improper restraint of her dog as well?? bike will need new forks and lots of body plastic.? im thinking they should total it but not sure? so thanks to all for your prayers her name is dianne olson 30 years old been riding bikes since she was 16.
10. ok what are you farmers down here in good old IL giving these birds? just got back from a 50 mile ride me and 2friends. me on the venture. one friend on his new vstar. and a lady friend on a pink crotch rocket yep its pink. we where going down a nice country road here into a little town called tonica. i just got a new bell helmet maroon. and a jean jacket. well we went past this field where a farmer was out there plowing i guess? that field was full of i think are gulls? well we got about where the middle of the field would be. on this road when whoosh the birds took off like the movie the birds. then it happend splat splat splat this nice white stuff hit me and the female friends bike like someone tossed paint at us. my face shield became blured the windshield held some of it back. my jean jacket all down my shoulders and back. her pink bike coverd with it. friend laughing his arse off he got it in his hair. teach him not to wear his helmet LOL so is this something you farmers feed to maybe make the birds crap them selfs to death LOL
11. Any one have any knowledge or documentation on a '93 era Shadow 1100. I have one in the garage that I am working on for a friend. He has a Climbers for it but It does not even give fuse locations. Thanks
12. Okay I understand alot of laws have changed since terrorism has gotten worse but everything I have heard is what someone believes and not the full gospel. What I am wanting to know is what does an American have to have on them to drive a motorcycle to Canada and then be able to get back into the U.S.A.? I am thinking I also need to check with my insurance to see if I am even convered going there. Not planning on a trip this year but maybe next summer. About a year ago a friend of mine said that a friend of his took his honeymoon in Canada and well they had no problem getting into Canada but could not get out due to U.S.A. issues...
13. Anybody know if something is going on with Buckeye Performance? I've been trying to access their website http://www.buckeyeperformance.com this morning and it just doesn't seem to be there. Can anyone else get on that site? Also, I noticed that Rick's membership has expired. Hmmmm.....hope he's still around. A friend of mine needs one of his high output stators. EDIT: Never mind.....site is working now. Must have been a temp glitch.
14. I have a very close long time friend who is only 59 and is currantly lying in hospital and has been there since the ambulance took him in last thursday april 15. He is currantly not expected to live much longer and has refused any form of life support. I have been going to see him everyday and evertime I leave I think it will be the last time I see him alive, yet each time I go back he is still holding on but barely and often is barely consious. Each day his two daughters are there and the anguish they go through each day is hard to take. Please send some prayers for both him and his daughters, I believe they really could use them at this time.

brakes?

well finished what me and a friend could do on the bike where not the greatest mechanics in the world. but here is what we finaly got done after dealing witha shady mechanic from before 1 we got the tires mounted new dunlops same as origional 2 rotors from pinwall installed all 3 of them. and let me say what a great place to get parts. 3 fresh new plugs and cleaned the caps 4 fresh oil 5 brand new brake pads ok now heres the problem the dash shows the brakes fluid thing its on all the time not flashing just on?? brakes are great so not sure what we done wrong? also still a little poping and rough idle i need to get these carbs sync. all in all she running good not great but good. but like willie says on the road again. now to install the radio. old one works but missing buttons and that great cassette gave up the ghost got one of them too. then install the false tank. old one needs some repairs to the fuel door and the tab that holds it. need to fix that but got a replacement not same color. but going to fix the old one as it has a mural that a friend did before he passed away. but i can say im on the road with the venture. and with time and good friends here i will get it right.
16. I friend of a friend who just purchased an 83 VR and the CLASS air system works fine in the rear, but does not work at all in the front.. I told him to check the solders in the CLASS system, and he said it does not appear that there are any cracks in the solder..I thought he may have missed some, but might there be any other reasons Thanks, Clay
17. I am a closet poet. I don't share much of what I write. After reading about Tom I felt compelled to write. I hope this came out Ok. For Tom E and all that are missed A friend was taken from me today He lived far away I never met him face to face Though he would visit me at my place Across cyber space we became friends Shared stories of ventures far and wide Chatted as if we sat side by side We joked and laughed late into the night I'd go to bed with a smile before I turned out the light He road off on a ride one day A careless person took him away A driver in a cage made a turn In the end a sad lesson learned With two eyes and two ears he failed to see, the friend he took away from me In gods kingdom he now rides Endless ventures far and wide One day we shall meet Face to face we will speak A warm place I do keep, for my friend as I sleep I dream of ventures far and wide With my friend by my side
18. Your Trucker friend picked them up Thanks
19. Hey all, I just got a call from Josh, Friend of Gamecock. It seems that gamecock was involved in an accident. He went to Myrtle beach to visit his parents on Friday and spend the weekend riding with his Dad. Today they were riding in SC and I guess a cager and them were involved in a wreck. Ben (gamecock) was in the lead and took the brunt of the damage. Two broken arms, I'm not sure what else. His dad and friend were banged up also. Right now he is in a Hospital in Charleston SC and tomorrow he will be undergoing surgery on his arms. This about all the info I have right now. I'll post more as it comes in. let put him on our prayer lists. Thanks!!!!!
20. It all started when Charlie bought the bike in January. The bike was in northern Quebec. He spent the next 2 months trying to figure out how to bring it back. Calls to MTO resulted in various mixed messages about what you could and couldn’t do – i.e. some said he needed to have the mechanical done before it could be driven. Couldn’t put the existing plate on the bike as MTO entered it in the computer as unplated when they changed the ownership. This would have meant trailering it 900 kms. The bike was too big for a normal large pickup truck, as it’s 9 feet long. As well it came with a trailer which is 6 feet long…The other part of the issue was where to pay the G.S.T. If paid in Quebec it could be driven, but then you’d also have to pay it in Ontario and wait for a rebate from Quebec. As if…so he paid the tax in Ontario. MTO still insisted it couldn’t be driven until a mechanical fitness was provided. What to do…what to do… The dithering went back and forth between MTO, friends, OPP officers, everyone with a different take on the situation. Finally a friend on the VentureRider site contacted someone in Quebec who advised that all he needed to do was get a 4 day travel permit in Quebec and then it could be driven home. In the meantime a friend offered to borrow a trailer and chocks from someone else and go pick it up. Remember, it was still March and could still snow here. However, the trailer was gigantic, 22 feet long, and would have cost $800- $1,000 in gas just to get there. Then found out the trailer lights were no good, and electric brakes would not work. Forget that idea. Another friend said perhaps the best option would be to build a raft and float it down the Ottawa River through the Trent Canal and home…LOL! Anyway in the end Charlie and a friend drove to St. Donat, Quebec. 954 kms. one way. En route they got the 4 day travel permit and got to the bike’s house. Then the problems began. The spot was way up in the Laurentian Mountains – still some snow there, lakes still frozen, air was cold on the bike. Dressed for winter. 1. The battery was dead so the owner boosted it and away they went. 2. The bike needed gas. As soon as it was stopped at the gas station, it wouldn’t start. So Charlie and a guy push started it. 3. Now it was obvious, he couldn’t shut the bike off. So drove back to Ottawa (3 hrs.) Stopped at a bike shop which was open late, and tried to buy a battery. However, it would take 10 hours to charge it. He didn’t buy the battery. 4. Got lost trying to find the place to stay. Drove far out of the way in long-weekend traffic in the dark, but finally found it at 9 p.m. Had been driving since 5 a.m. in Sudbury. 5. Stayed overnight at a B & B. The next day was Good Friday and everything was closed. 6. Asked the B & B owner if he had a battery charger. Yes. Tried to remove seat to take the battery out to charge. The bolts had been replaced and one wouldn’t come off. Didn’t have the right tools. Tear hair out. 7. Also, bike needed more gas. 8. Friday morning, friend drove to 2 gas stations to buy a plastic gas can. It must have been gold plated. $$$ Filled up tank. 9. Worked on the damn bolt some more. Finally a neighbour came over who had more tools. Got the damn bolt off. 10. Tried to boost it with the truck with small booster cables (all he had). Not enough juice to start bike. 11. Same neighbour brought over better cables. The boost worked. 12. On the road now, but can’t shut the bike off. 13. When gas was needed, stopped and filled up the gold plated gas can. Then left gas station and stopped down the road. Filled up the tank with the bike RUNNING!*#*$&!!! 14. Repeated this operation several times. 15. On the way home, temperature in one spot was up to 33 degrees C (80+_) Stripped off clothes. An hour later, temperature was dropping. Put clothes back on. 16. Believe it or not got home all in one piece. Drove into driveway at 5:30 p.m. Good Friday. 17. Shut off the bike. A few minutes later, tried key and it started! However, the battery really was toasted and a replacement has been bought. Was it worth it? Definitely! Cost of having new bike? Priceless!
21. Please keep Larry and his family in your prayers. He went down Thursday evening. Works with my wife. http://blog.al.com/breaking/2010/04/driver_thrown_15_feet_in_motor.html
22. Finally got Don's trike painted the way he wants. At least for now, he says. A friend painted flames on the front fairing, front fender, tank & rear fenders. Another friend painted Don's signature "B2 Stealth" on the back trunk lid. I think it looks really great. Wanted to share it with you. It was such a beautiful day today and poor guy still can't ride. Hopefully his hand will heal soon and he will be on the road while poor me is at work making that "gas money". LOL! Let us know what you think. Patti
23. well today after a long year of not riding. i took out the yamaha maxim i was going to give to the girlfriend before we broke up. the venture finaly made its way to a friends house for the tires and rotor and break work. all was going well but i dont know if any one else ever felt this way? but when i hit the highway. i was scared for about 20 miles. then i started to come around. a friend said im rusty? maybe should see about a refresher course? i took the motorcycle safety course 2 years ago. but that was on a little 250cc bike. i passed with a perfect test run. no mistakes back then. now its time to see what im doing wrong? im thinking take the maxim. through that course. then move up to the big boy? i do have a hard time makeing a u turn on the venture. i once did a low side on it. came in to a parking space thinking i could turn it to face outwards and found out i ran out of room? didnt want to hit the parked car so just kind of let it slide down on the crash bar. no damage but man what a bear to get back up. a good friend has now taught me how to get these heavy bikes back up. i was doing it all wrong. never try to muscle that bike he said. he showed me how to get it back upright from both sides. well that has been my day. hope to ride again tomorrow
