  1. I think this guy might be a Packer fan
  2. In anticipation of today's ice storm (thank goodness at our house it was not as bad as predicted!) I bought a 1200 watt generator to, if needed, power the natural gas fired central heating system at my son's house. The Coleman system is a 1995, 120VAC system that has no pilot light. To be sure we could count on it, I cut the furnace loose from the house power and hooked it up to the generator. When I turned it on it loaded the little generator, but according to the voltage meter on the generator it held 120 volts. The system ran about 30 seconds and I heard the generator unload. My 1st thought was it tripped the breaker on the generator, but that was not the case. I checked the furnace and the green LED, on the circuit board, was flashing rapidly. There is no code listed for that! I turned the power off to the furnace, waited about 15 seconds and turned it back on. The Green LED came on solid and that the little, what I think is called a purge fan, came on and ran about 20, or so, seconds. I heard the generator load up a little because of what I suspect was the ignitor coming on. This lasted about 5 seconds and then a click which I suspected was the gas valve being activated. With that every stopped and the green LED went to flashing rapidly again. I repeated this a couple of times with the same results. I thought well maybe the generator is not able to keep up and the voltage is dropping too low. It seems just the opposite to be the case. With the click that shuts down the furnace the volt meter on the generator "Jumps" up to about 130 or so. Any Ideas? I have not been able to find a tag that tells me what wattage the furnace should require. I would have thought starting the air handler fan would be the largest hurdle, but I have a similar fan from a long since dead system from our house, which I use as a shop fan in the summer. The little generator starts and runs it just fine.
  3. Then you gotta have this.... http://vancouver.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-motorcycles-street-cruisers-choppers-1966-YAMAHA-CUSTOM-BATCYCLE-COLLECTIBLE-W0QQAdIdZ211679405
  4. The trike I have is based on an 05 midnight venture . The trike was "cobbled up " rather than using a complete kit. The speedometer jumps around and the cruise control doesn't work , due to the unevenness of the input at the pickup level , I think. The impulse wheel used is a fan from an alternator , and the pickup is mounted at the side of the wheel. The fan is not mounted on center of the universal joint. It wobbles. So back to the original question. What is needed to make the speeometer pickup system work properly? Help!
  5. Anyone tried the lower temp fan switches? Pros or cons?
  6. I have a fan over ride switch but lately my fan seems to work only when IT decides to. Usually only when cold, not when I need it to work. Fan failures haven't been brought up here but figured I'd ask before troubleshooting the wiring.
  7. It's been several years since I've seen or heard my cooling fan come on. I've been kind of concerned about it since I'm making trips to see my son, about 260 miles round trip, most weekends. I've been trying to catch it running for some time now and finally today, I cranked it up and just let it idle for about 20 minutes, without hearing it come on. Just when I was going to give up, I felt a blast of hot air coming out near the front cylinder on the side I was standing on, looked at it because it was almost too quiet to hear it but it was running. Only ran about 30 seconds then shut off again. My temp gauge hangs around in the coldest part of the scale all the time even when it's fully warm so it doesn't help very much. Besides replacing my temp gauge, I wonder if it might be worth it to put an LED on that fan circuit so you know it's working on hot days.?
  8. Final drive? How much should there be if any? I just finished changing the oil in the final drive ,while the bike is on the center stand I decided to shake some stuff around, there is a small but noticeable amount of side play in the final drive halves, I need to know if its normal, abby-normal or ? Question #2 I don't think that the cooling fan is working, If I hook it direct to a battery and the fan runs then I guess I can figure that the fan is good but a sending unit or something else is bad, Is this sending unit up under the top of the fairing behind the head light? Thanks
  9. - I'm making saw dust and I've got a vent fan in the window, a 21" box fan on the floor and it's still hotter than a fffiaf -
  10. Well I did it again, and this time its a deader.. I went on another Advanced rider's course this evening and once again, I cooked my clutch on the 2006 RSV, so badly that there absolutely nil clutch effect when the clutch lever is released out completely.. I can sit there in first gear, clutch fully out and nothing happening.. in any gear for that matter. wow. This past spring, the same thing happened, and the clutch plates were cooked. I had since replaced the whole thing with new steels and friction plates and everything was fine until tonight. I was careful not to over rev the engine, gentle on the controls etc, and even had a fresh oil change yesterday (dino oil).. but during one of the exercises, the clutch let go completely causing me to lose torque to the rear wheel and dropping the bike (no big deal).. I picked it up, did a run on the side of the course and realized the clutch was slipping completely.. oh oh.. I pulled the bike over and shut it down.. I know I did not hear the rad fan running before shutting it down. When we started a new exercise, I then discovered I could not pull away at all in first or any gear.. oh oh.. oh no. I let the bike cool down for an hour. I tried it again but no dice. I had no clutch what so ever. Now I know there is something not right with the clutch system on the bike causing this premature and unwarranted clutch failures. I'm not over revving the engine, not abusing the clutch. And I practice slow riding a lot on the bike but never had any issues until tonight, but tonight it's more sustained than my usual practice periods. Here's what I did notice: The Clutch reservoir is lower than it was when I started. I do not recall ever hearing the radiator fan ever coming on.. I mention this because the other liquid cooled bikes on the course had their fans humming loudly.. the borrowed bike (1500 nomad) is liquid cooled and its fan roared on several times.. But I do not remember hearing mine to be honest.. So here's what I am wondering.. is it possible I cooked the engine oil and thus the clutch if the bike wasn't being properly cooled when the fan wasn't coming on? Is it possible the master cylinder is pooched causing an issue to prematurely burn out the clutch plates? I have the PCW (sp) heavy duty clutch spring installed and had taken out the half disks and installed a full disk as per their instructions. I had not experience any issues at all this summer on the bike's clutch system until tonight (well over 15,000 miles this summer already) So tomorrow morning the bike is being dropped off at a local shop.. I'll be asking them to change out the clutch master cylinder kit as the current one shows signs of abuse and deterioration etc, perhaps its allowing air to enter the system or clutch fluid to leak out.. I'll get them to flush out the fluid as well. I will be asking them to check the rad cooling system, perhaps there is something amiss causing the bike to overheat, cooking the oil, killing the clutch.. Its not me abusing the hell out of the clutch that is killing it, but something is not right with the bike that when abused, causes a premature failure of the clutch system.. When the smoke clears, I'll let you know what was discovered, if anything, as to what caused all this.. Blargh!!!
  11. I was reading the Cooling Fan thread in the Watering Hole and it got me to thinking. Of course I never hear my fan come on when I'm on the bike but it never overheats and consistently keeps the needle in the middle of the Green area. Here's the odd part...when I stop and park the bike the fan isn't running when I'm sitting at idle, but it will start running a few seconds after I hit the kill switch. If I leave the key on, it'll go for a minute or two before it turns off. Is this anything close to normal??
  12. How hot does it have to get before the fan kicks in?
  13. I have noticed a couple of times the past 2 weeks that my cooling fan will just arbitrarily come on while my bike has been sitting in the garage for a couple days--If I disconnect the battery ground and reconnect everything is fine (the fan shuts off)---Do I have a bad relay or am I missing something??
  14. If you were and still are a fan of the Beatles, you will love this web site, every song ever written and recorded by them. Video's, and music. Sit back and take a trip back in time................ http://www.beatlestube.net/video-links/
  15. It may have been there all the time .When starting up in the morning and after a ride, in neutral it sounds like a fan belt squeaking in a cars engine? Any ideas
  16. What would make a rad Fan fuse blow? It wasnt a nice site, Was sync the carbs and I look down and fluid all over the place Went to check the fuse and its blown
  17. My other computer when I turn it on will beep 3 or 4 times and sounds like the fan is running at high speed. The monitor says its not receiving any signal and the fan is really loud. Any ideas what happened or what I need to look for?
  18. This is a great letter from a Colts fan , a must read!!!! It happened... The Colts have made it to the Super Bowl. Quietly, humbly, efficiently they came out in the second half and delivered the knockout blows needed to beat the pesky New York Jets. Every Colts fan has been salivating for this for two seasons since the last trip to Miami . Every Colts fan is ready, ecstatic that his team has made it this far. As the clock ticked down in the AFC Championship game, the realization hit me that another Super Bowl win would fully validate the career of my favorite athlete (do I need to say his name?). And then... The Saints come marching in—guns blazing, classy group, everything you could want out of a football team. Everyone knows the story, Katrina hits, devastating the city of New Orleans ... Who do the people turn to but their lovable loser football team. They back them, despite the fact that they’ve never been to a Super Bowl, that they’ve had more losing seasons than I’m sure fans care to recall... The city pulls itself up from its bootstraps, and this team gives it something to stand behind, to root for, to be so proud of. Which then leads to the question many Colts fan ask themselves... Why did we get stuck playing the most likeable football team in the history of lovable losers? I won’t cut corners here I’m die hard. I hope it’s a great game. I hope Peyton throws for 400 yards and five touchdowns and solidifies himself as one of the all-time greats. In the end, this game is different from any of the others. I don’t hate the Saints. In fact, I’d say they might be my second favorite team. I don’t want to see Drew Brees being carted off the field at any point in the game, or any other Saints player for that matter. I don’t want any questions about who the better team was when that final whistle blows. I want a hard-fought battle between two of the classier organizations in the NFL. I hope both teams walk off the field with their heads held high. I hope fans of both of these franchises cherish this game, this season and the careers of so many great players who will take the field on Super Bowl Sunday. Which brings me to admitting maybe the hardest thing to say as a Colts fan... If we gotta lose to someone, might as well be you guys... There, I said it. Now I look like a sentimental softy. I’m sure my die-hard status will be in question to many a Colt’s fan... I don’t care. Your story is amazing and your team might be bigger than any one game or even the man(ning) I have idolized since he stepped onto a football field. Best of luck to all of you, the team, the fans, and the New Orleans community. I’ve rooted hard for the Saints every game of the season, how could you not? This will be the exception. I’m sure it will be a game for the ages. See you in Miami , James Secoloff :clap2::clap2::clap2:
  19. I am looking to purchase a used vehicle and have been looking for a pick up or SUV. I prefer larger vehicles due to my size but I'm getting frustrated due to the costs. I'd like something one to two years old. I haven't purchased a new vehicle since 1985. I've never been a fan of Subarus but I would like 4X4 or AWD like the Subaru. Does the Subaru make a vehicle big enough for tall/big people or are all of them likely to be too small? I've never been in one so I really know nothing about them.
  20. A long time ago a much older and much wiser friend of mine told me that with women "it's a h*ll of a lot easier to lose points then it is to get them". Well yesterday I was able to gain a few. Mary is a big C&W music fan so when we saw that Garth Brooks was playing here in Vegas I suggested that we try and get tickets. She said it would be impossible, that the show would have been sold out months ago. I said it don't hurt to ask. So at 3:00 yesterday afternoon we go to the box office and they have a line for last minute cancellations. No body was waiting so I said lets go. After a ten minute wait the girl called us up. She said there was two seats for the 10:30 show, centre stage, row O. I said we'll take them. Mary was so excited and giddy like a teenage girl. The show was excellent and even though I'm not a fan I really enjoyed it too. Trisha Yearwood, his wife, came out for a couple of songs as well. I was a hero last night. Now I just have to figure out how not to lose those points. Maybe tickets to Brooks and Dunn???
  21. Has anyone ever replaced the pull chain on a ceiling fan? It's the chain controlling the fan. It's broken off inside so there's nothing to attach another chain to. I know i've seen a small replacement part at Home Depot's but are they really standard and one size fits all?
  22. I knew that plastic Venture rider card would come in handy. I forgot my keys so i used your card to open the back door of my house The card is vey useful I scraped the bugs of my windshield Used it as a fan Here's a photo Dray soliciting his card to a member 99 silver,, :rotfl:
  23. Hi everyone, A thought that has come to mind after a colleague of mine had some issues with his Honda VTX on a trip..... I have never heard my fan come on, running or after shut down, regardless of how hot it has been outside, how long of a trip I have been on, etc.. I have never had any mechanical issues but wondering from others how often their's run, etc. Thanks Trevor
  24. In an earlier thread, some of you guys gave me the idea to use a rear window defroster relay/timer for a manual over ride on the cooling fan on my scoot. Well, got it done. It works perfectly. On for 10 minutes then goes off by itself. I got rid of the OEM stereo and replaced it with a Pioneer CD stereo a while back. I left the mute and seek switches on the handle bars thinking I might have a use for them later. I modified the switch by taking out the mute switch and replacing it with an amber lens. I had to run a fourth wire to the switch to light the bulb that I took out of the relay. So the seek switch became the fan switch and the mute became the indicator light. I don't remember what kind of car I took the relay out of, but I think it was a mid to late 80's Lumina. You can see the number on the relay in the picture if you need it for reference later. At the same time I also replaced the thermostat and flushed out the old coolent and replaced it with some new stuff. Also the radiator cap didn't look so swell so I replaced it with an extra one I had on hand. The local auto dealer here is an Auto Value store, so the Napa number (156) wasn't much help. On another thread that some one else posted, another member posted a picture of the box that he got his thermoatat in from Napa. Along with the number 156, there was also a number 33708. We were able to use that number as a cross reference. We founs a Stant #13758 that fit perfectly. It was also a 180* thermostst same as the OEM stat.
  25. Sunday I was out for a ride with another couple, I was on my 06 Venture they were 2 up on a RSTD. It was sunny and 24 degrees Celsius. We rode for a good hour before stopping and when we did I could hear a noise coming from his bike. I asked him what the noise was and he said the cooling fan. It then occurred to me that I have never heard my fan come on and it got me wondering. So today I checked the fuse and it was ok, so I asked a Yamaha service manager and he told me that’s not unusual and that it takes a lot before the fan comes on. I’m wondering what other 2nd gen riders experience with your bikes, do you hear your cooling fan kick in and what’s the temperature around the engine like when it does? Does it make a difference when you ride 2up? When you stop after a run is your fan running? Perhaps I should test my thermostat and temperature sensor??
