  1. He was in our little Town at Walmart as a promotion for his new work clothing line, then off to the Kentucky Fair for a few days. Seemed like a really genuine and nice fella! Hey wait is that Stratcat or Mariner Fan..... http://a234.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/122/l_14df0012e11f3b2a8a4b954571ab4ba1.jpg
  2. I am having problems with my clutch and hope someone can give me advice on how to address the problem. The clutch starting functioning poorly on a ride a few days ago. I checked the fluid level and it was low. Added some fluid and the clutch started working well. A fews days later, on another ride, I encounterred the same problem. The fluid reservoir was almost empty. I placed a piece of cardboard under the bike when I parked it and my suspicions were confirmed. There is a fluid leak that is causing me to lose brake fluid. Has anyone encountered this problem before and what are some things I should know in resolving this issue? Rick
  3. One of our members suggested that I create a new area for all the '09 International Rally talk. It's a long ways of and they seem to get lost and hard to find after a few days. I have created a new topic area under Rides and Rallies called International Rally and the current discussions have been moved to that area. Thanks.
  4. Went to my first Star Days, and I have to say I was really disappointed. Anyone know who at Star to send feedback to?
  5. Well, frustration has set in and I'm going to blow a fuse. Hit the deer about a month ago...took it to the dealer....$5,100 in damages later (thought it would be just a new fender and tire) they've got the bike tore down. Perfect, we have to go to New Orleans for a few days, it will be just like new when we get home. Not gonna happen....after talking the hubby into calling after we get back, because we haven't heard anything...he finds out that they haven't ordered parts because he had to sign off on insurance..ok, so he gets that done. Now it's going to be 4-5 days to get the parts in, then another 2 days to put it back together, Fine, should be ready last week. No phone call, no update, so get hubby to call shop guy back to get an update (cuz he's not gonna want to hear from me)and not all the parts are in yet, for sure it will be ready by next Wed (today) but he'll keep us informed. Yeah right...Nicely ask the hubby to call at noon to see if we can pick the bike up tonight and guess what....they've put a few parts on, but all the rest just came in this morning (imagine that) and the shop guy will start working on it as soon as he's done with the bike he's on. Will be done by Friday night. 3 weeks. Thankful we made it through the accident. Thankful we've got insurance. Thankful for my healthy family, but man alive, it's such a short riding season and my butt doesn't fit the backseat of my Virago very well. Well, I've crabbed enough so thanks for letting me vent. Nobody around here would understand! I wish I had my husband's patience, but no such luck.
  6. I've been hesitant to publicize it but Brenda and I leave tomorrow (June 5) for the ride of a lifetime. 1st Leg: Little Rock to Denver (preaching there Sunday) then Yellowstone. After two days in the park, on to Lewiston, ID & Spokane WA for church meetings. Then a few days in Olympia WA (preaching again and visiting with missionary friends) with a quick visit to Canada. 2nd Leg: Olympia WA to Rapid City SD to visit Mt Rushmore and preach for a friend. From there a hard fast ride to Sykesville MD (near DC) to spend a week with my daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandkids. 3rd Leg: From MD back to Little Rock via the Blueridge parkway with a 5 day stopover to visit aged parents in AL. In all, we will hit 22 states and be on the road for 7 weeks. Except for the ride from SD to MD, we plan on taking it relatively easy with a few days on the road and then a few days visiting with friends. The Piggybacker XL is loaded and we are exicted. Maybe we'll see some of you along the way. Lynn
  7. I'm leaving the Space Center Area in Florida around September 9th, and traveling to Indianapolis, Indiana and I don't want to use the Interstates. Has anyone traveled in or near this area that could tell me some good roads to take. I'm taking my camper and plan on taking about 3 days. I'm in no hurry and would like to see some sites on the way. Also if you have any infromation on camp sites I would like to know that. Thanks, Ken:backinmyday:
  8. Any Retired Airline folks in the group? This may be of interest-- or a few memories http://www.funstufftosee.com/airlineempires.html I turned many a wrench on several of these birds, sad that most of them have gone to the bone yard. I guess thats part of the reason I keep the old bike running. Its made many a trip to the hanger, at 5 AM to take care of the birds. Probably the most interesting Bird was the Lockheed Supper Connie, If any members remember that fine aircraft. Times have changed--- no hanger at the end of the road these days. Just ride on !
  9. Ok,I finally bit the bullet and being that I like to try new things I bought a New (Blem) windshield directly from Clearview. I ordered the XX Tall,Tinted with the Vent.It is wider from bottom to the top and as the pics I think show it is designed to throw the wind farther over the top of your head and more to the sides also,IT DOES THAT. I did not think the vent would really get air to me but IT DOES DO THAT...ALOT more.I was unsure about ordering with the tint,I am glad I did that also. I know I read posts on here that some do not like it but If you are unsure about it and live around here or traveling thru, call I will let you ride mine,They are BETTER than I thought it would be. Now if you order one they will tell you it will be 4-6 weeks BEFORE they start production on it so be prepared for that. You have to ASK if they have a Blem,it took 2 days for them to get back but I realize I am not the only customer they have,it was worth the wait!( 2 very very small scratches) Here are the pics from all angles . Bottom Line is I Recommend it if you want air off of your passenger and want more air directed to you thru a vent on those hot days. Tom
  10. Just came back from a four State mini-tour. Took in Black Mtn. Ky, Pigeon Forge area, Deals Gap, Blue Ridge Parkway and places I will probably never find again. My reason for this thread is that by the forth day of riding, My butt was killing me (did ok first 3 days)...If it hadn't been for Advil, I probably would have stayed in a motel for a day to recover !!! I had a sheepskin over my seat, but am looking for more padding, if that will help. Tried an Air-Hawk once and it set me up higher and felt wobbly (didn't care for it).. Anyone ever used a Butt-Buffer or Gel pad with any satisfaction ??? Or any other advice on being able to log more miles before the sore butt syndrome kicks in. Heck, I'm still sore and have been home for two days !!!

  17. I'm going on a long trip the end of August, and I would like to be tracked, by both the wife & club members. looking for (in a word) a not so expensive unit. Plan on 6500. miles in 20 days

  20. What a weekend I had . Got up bright and early 3:00 a.m. Saturday to start the days event . As a member of Rolling Thunder NC-5 , I began leaving the house to meet up with another member at 4:00 a.m. to eat breakfast then to the rally point on which kickstands up at 5:30 a.m to begin our journey to Raleigh , NC . At which Rolling Thunder was invited to participate in the parade Also RT was the only private organization and motorcycle group there . NC-4 was the host chapter there and led the group ,but this also the first time that all chapters rode together as a group other than the DC ride . Other than RT being there , they did allow some High School Marching Band to attend . History was made this day , as being the largest Parade in NC to this date . There was over 50,000 spectators there to show support for our troops . As we started from the staging area unto the parade , we got the surprise of our life as Senator Dole asked to ride with us on a motorcycle . As she was wearing a business dress/skirt , it would have been very unlady-like for here to ride . So there was one member on a Scooter with a Voyager kit on it , which allowed here to ride lady-like on . It was a surprise all together , even to her aid and bodyguards and to the news group . No one expected this at all ! This was the the second and most largest parade I have ridden in . The parade was a 1 1/2 mile long and took almost an hour to complete . I pulled the BEERCART equipped with the POW-MIA and the American flag upon it . I even took one to the serviceman's daughter as co-pilot . This will be an event I will never forget . As the politicians and military leaders that were there , they expressed they wished for RT to be at all the next forthcoming parades as this will be a annual event now . Here are some video's of the days events ; (News clip) http://www.wral.com/news/local/video/2798619 (Entire Parade) 1 hour long . http://www.wral.com/news/local/video/2798244 RT is about 46 minutes into the footage . Here you will the a glimpse of the BEERCART and myself . After a brief banner of days events , you will see a reporter interviewing Sen. Dole on back of the scooter during the parade . Listen closely as the main news caster comment about here and especially about NC's motorcycle helmet laws ! After the parade , we had BBQ sandwiches with the troops and got a group picture taken with the Senator . We also got to meet with some Medal of Honor heroes . On the ride back towards home (2 1/2 ride) leaving city limits of Raleigh , all the group was in the inside lane to allow traffic entering I-40 , on which a cage suddenly lost his hood . The hood just snapped off and went sailing straight up into the air about 50 or so feet , turning end over end . All I could say on the CB was "INCOMING"!!!!!!!!( I was riding tail end) The hood safely landed on the side of the road missing everybody . Though everyones heart skipped a beat , I could only imagine what the inside of that cage smelled like .:whistling: To bad I was not running the helmet cam at that time , it would have been a sight to see . I finally arrived home around 8:00 p.m. . Hope you enjoy the footage and if ever you get the chance to participate in any cause to support our troops , I can at least say the expressions and Thanks from our Servicemen/women and their families will last in your hearts for a life time . I just really never knew how much it meant to them until now ! God Bless our Troops and their Families !!!!!! BEER30
  21. I'm talking to you folks who have to put your scoot up for the winter. I am just getting over a really bad bout of gout and just today rode my RSV for the first time in 3 weeks, gosh it felt so good to be back on her. I was going NUTZ without riding and that was just 3 weeks. I can't imagine what an entire winter would be like. Actually I lied, I did get a test ride in on Saturday albeit a short one to test my ankle. I live on the East coast of NC and our winters are moderate enough. There have been some cold days and I have ridden 50 to work in 17 degree temps, but for the most part the days haven't been too terrible this past winter. You folks must be going stir crazy. My heart goes out to you.
  22. Thought this was. After looking up who's on line. I noticed that SOME of YOU live here. :rotf: But what was more impressive is that 1200 of the members check the site at least once every 4 days and that's not even considering the ones who check it and never log in Plus the guest just browsing. What a SITE ?
  23. Well got started on her late, due to Artic trip and freighter generator overhauls, but I finally got into the tranny on Sat 29 Mar 08, and turned the key and test rode her Wed 09 Apr 08. All told the job took me 43 hours, split into 7 days of actually in the garage. Spent some time waiting for parts, 5 days for a bearing retainer clip screw. Broke when taking it out, and ordered replacement, actually still haven't got it yet. After 3 days I went to a Nut and Bolt supplier we deal with through work and purchased 3 new, allen wrench instead of philips head, flat heads. Much nicer than the originals, and way easier to torque in, no impact driver. The last day was a bugger, after all the sweat and grief getting the drivers floor boards installed, terminating the brake and shifter linkages, when I took her for the test ride, I'd put the shifter linkage clamp on 180 degrees out, so she was shifting 1 up, and 4 down, LOL, well it was 0300 in the morning. Flipped it the next afternoon, and took her out for another run, much better. All in all I'm glad I tackled it, got to know my ride very intimately, and the cost savings over having a shop do it were huge. Wouldn't recommend it for anyone who is not confident in there mechanical abilities to tackle it alone. The only help I had was the day I pulled the engine out, and a couple hours help the day I put it back in, all the rest was solo, just me and the ride in the garage. I would offer my help to any members in my area who ever try and tackle this one though. Having someone who's done it would definately make life a lot easier. See you on the black top. Ozzie:cool10:
  24. I am looking at a smoker in Bradenton, FL. Was wondering if we had any members near there or going that way in the next couple of days that would be able to take a look at it for me. And maybe take a few pics. Thanks, Dale
  25. in 3 days, it's only 2 months til .................... MAINTENANCE DAY!!!
