  1. I got my pumpkin . I went to Zdeno in kitghner and after a little hunting I found what i wanted and its in good shape Al was kind enough to let me open itup and look inside before buying it, he actually has a few of them mostly for the 1200 and one for a 98. which i believe forthe all intents and purposes is the same as the 1300 first gen other than the shaft is longer but i think could be changed if needed and the addition of a sensor by the pinion shaft. the diff i took cost me 200. Which I thought was an ok deal. I'm thinking of replaceing the seals before putting it into service.
  2. Has anyone changed out or know someone who have changed their rear running/brake light bulb to the brighter so-called halogen bulb? I know they're not really halogen, but they are brighter and slightly hotter. If anyone has, have you seen a degradation of your tail lens? Thanks in advance for your responses!
  3. Changed the brake fluid, changed final gear oil, and motor oil, then added clutch fluid (dot 3 brake fluid). Now for some reason my '83s wheel spins as soon as you put it in gear with the clutch engaged??? what the heck did I do or didn't do? I am newer to this site and to the bike and not really what you would call "tech savvy" so any help would be appreciated. If it helps the clutch level was just barely in the sight glass untill I filled it. Thanks for any help in advance.
  4. I have to add a couple of things to this post since I got busted. My best friend and riding buddy, he rides a Roadstar:confused24:, read this post and got his feelings hurt. (I didn't know he had any!) It seems that I forgot to mention that he helped with the repairs in several major ways. He was there to laugh really hard at me when I forgot to let the air off the forks when I pulled the plug to drain the oil. (I didn't know that that little bit of oil could soak an entire set of clothes.) He was also around to help hide the one tool that I must have to put something back together. (There is no way I can finish a project without stopping for an hour to find that one special wrench.) Oh and I could never go without telling that he unplugged ALL of the electrical connections under the license plate to take the trunk off.(NONE of them had to be unplugged)(Well he didn't unplug em all, but this is my story and I will tell it like I want.) He did contribute in some minor ways. He made sure the luggage rack was set straight so we only had to drill one set of holes. And he was very helpfull in running the new brake lines. (I couldn't reach that rear one.) Also he provided some much needed comic relief and some very good encouragement when things started going bad. But I think the greatest contribution he made was to just be there when I needed him. I had to go in for some emergency surgery and he was able to help the wife take care of the pets and the house while I was in the hospital. So Johnny, this is my way of saying thanks man. After 4 months and several interuptions for some real strange reasons, I have finally managed to finish repairing my 04 Midnight that I wrecked in Nov. All that is left to do is get the license from the state and I am ready to roll again. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it rides now. I changed out the stock fork springs with some from Sonic Springs. I also changed the fork oil to 10 w. I hope that will stiffen the front end up enough to stop the diving I experience when I come down hard on the front brakes in a corner. I also took the risers out and changed the handle bars to a set from Flanders. They feel so much better and I dont have the rattle that the fairing was making. The only thing I am really concerned about is the removal of the rear lowering kit. It sure feels awful high with the stock shock links back in. I may make a set that is somewhere in between stock and Baron's size. Any ideas on this????? All that is left to do is replace the winshield with a Clearview shield. Hopefully that will be in when I return from work around the 15th of April. (Just why does work have to get in the way of riding??????) Thanks to everyone that was able to help through the Tech section. I was awful quick to go look up things that I was not sure of. Ride safe.
  5. Just as a headsup.. be aware that the Super Tech (WalMart) filter has changed. All seems to be the same, except that the bypass valve is no longer the caged spring-disc-seal but the plastic button-spring type similar to the Fram... pics at Link HERE (need to join to see pics but unlike this site, membership is free) SDB/Jim
  6. used SEA FORM to clean the out side of the carb, this 93 vr need more than soup,409 used to work pretty good but i thank they have changed thir formly
  7. Do I need to remove the tank to change out the plugs, I have 9k on the bike and not sure if they have ever been changed or not. Also what should they be gaped at?? Thanks
  8. Over the Christmas break I will be starting up the wood stove in the garage and changing the coolant in my 2nd gen. Venture. I have not done this service before. I guess I will follow the service manuals guide lines. Is there anything to watch out for or should do or not do? I will also change the plugs which I have done before. I am close to 40,000 miles on the bike. I did the splines this past summer when I changed the rear tire. Any in put?
  9. Would like to know if anybody has changed out their 1157 bulbs over to led 1157 ? Reason I'm asking is I changed out my two brake light bulbs over to Led which put out a lot more light and less draw on battery but in turn it sets off the light indicator on the dash stating I have a bad bulb. So has any body came across a Led bulb that does not set off the indicator light? I already changed my trailer over to led so now I would like to do the same for the bike. buddy
  10. Started the bike up today for the first time in about two weeks, would not run without choke on. Check the air filters, changed the plugs still no help. Runs like on two cylinders. Anyone had this problem???? Any help is appreciated. Brent
  11. It was my impression that the 1stGen clutch covers were all the same from 83-93 1200/1300. Then ran acrossed this item on Ebay. CLUTCH I can't believe that yama-mama changed the cover in any way, but here's a seller that says the one he just bought on Ebay doesn't fit. Whatcha think???
  12. Need a little help. Changed left rear exhaust donut, got it back together, checked plugs, all tan on porcelain. Has been sputtering at idle, pulled off the breather, upon rev up and back down, am getting a backfire (fuel, no fire) from the left rear cylinder. Doesn't do it constantly, only once per blip. Pulled plug wires one at a time, LR doesn't make much change, LF is definate miss, RF is questionable, same as rear. Doesn't seem to affect operation, pulls good with a good twist of the right wrist, even with rider on back. Doesn't seem like a clean burn out of the exhaust, either. It just feels like it is missing. Oh, also have gas on under side of breather box on left side, can't find source. Not dripping, just coated. 1 more thing, changed stator and regulator, is 14.6 at the battery too high? I have a couple spare regs to try. Help is appreciated. Will be back shortly, going back into garage to put plastic back on. Thanks in advance, Dan
  13. Ok... I just changed out my stator on my 86. I get it back together, all buttoned up... and changed the oil while I'm at it... fire it up! Hmmmm... What's that knocking noise from the left crankcase cover?? I don't have any leftover parts, so any ideas??
  14. I posted this before...tried a couple things..problem still exists. First of all, it ain't the woman on the back coz I've had 3 different ones and I really can't believe they all squeal exactly the same and at exactly the same time! Here's the problem... when doing a tight right curve such as one of those you'd find in a freeway on/off ramp at a good clip (around 100 km/h), I get this squealing/whining sound. It only appears under this condition and it seems that if I'm not leaning quite enough or leaning too far, it goes away. In other words, while making the corner, I change the lean angle of the bike and the squeal goes away...put the lean angle back to what it was and there's the squeal again. This doesn't happen in a left curve. It's also less obvious without a passenger (but still exists). It also doesn't happen doing the same curve at a slower speed. Here's what I've done... changed both front and rear wheel bearings. Changed rear rotor. Cleaned and re-greased rear wheel. All internal components in rear wheel appear in good shape. Anyone experience this and/or have any clue what might be causing this? Thanks.
  15. :sign67:I've gotten some pretty good advice so far, so lets try again. '89vr. new clutch (yamaha oem). Changed fluid and bled-no air. New oil(when clutch was changed. After the bike warms up, the clutch STILL slips when I get on the throttle. I am fresh out of ideas. By the way, I cleaned out the little hole in the clutch resevoir. I feel like I'm bangin' my head against a wall on this.
  16. When cruising down the road, everything sounds and feels great, until I get to 70 MPH. From 70 mph to 80 mph it feels like the bike is beating itself to death. Over 80 mph it smooths right out. Put in a tankful of Seafoam, changed the spark plugs and wire caps. Changed the oil and filter and synced the carbs. Replaced the fuel filter last year. The only solution I can think of is it probably needs a valve adjustment. According to the manual, it should have been done at 26K and I have just over 31K on the bike. Does this sound right? In reading the manual it is a job that I don't think I can handle by myself. Any and all suggestions appreciated!! :confused24: :confused24:
