  1. Wired in some extra horns under the fairing, and added 2 switches for heated vests and a carb heater cut-off switch last night. This morning, I had problems. The cassette would play and i could change volume, but only through the speakers. None of the other settings on the unit were effective. Ejected cassette, had blank screen, and every now & then "CASS" would flash on screen. I never did cure itself all day. I will check if I messed up some connections under fairing, and also check fuse under right lower cowling but other than that I have no ideas. I'm thinking it is dealer time and check out warrenty unless someone has experience this particular problem before?
  2. I'll be getting my Zumo 660 in the next few weeks. I'll be using the AUX plug at the back of the cassette player (I already have my iPod connected there) and I want to also disconnect the power from the cassette player and use that for the GPS. Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated!
  3. The cost alone may keep me from doing this but I am considering it. I stopped by a local Yamaha dealership the other day looking for advice regarding changing out my Audio system. I use the AM/FM when in my home area and I use my Garmin/XM when out of the range of the local stations. I plug the XM into the Cassette player to use the speakers. As anyone knows who does something similar the sound is not as loud when using this method and according to the people at Yamaha there is not much that can be done about the decreased sound. Something about running one system (XM) thru the Cassette which will always play at a reduced sound. I'm trying to improve the system by looking for a FM I can listeN to at all times BY hitting a scan button. This seems to be a frutless search so far as there appears to be no system to replace the Yamaha stock system. The dealer even sent me to a local place that installs systems in cars and motorcycles and have been doing so for over 25 years. This place pretty much said I need to consider letting them take out the cassette and replacing it with a one piece system that does it all. GPS, Am/FM/CD and who knows what else. They would have to do some cutting to make it fit and a 7 in screen pops out when in use. When you turn it off it disappears back into itself. This system does not pop out for safekeeping. My question is: Will I be sorry installing something like this? Does anyone here have anything similar or have any suggestions? As a nearly 30 year police officer I'm aware of the danger of having something like this on my bike when I'm traveling and can't watch the bike all night when parked. I'm going on a 30- day ride this August and would like some decent sounds.
  4. One of my speakers was shot on my 90, so I replaced them with a new set. I got everything back together and the radio was working great. A few days later I went for a several hour ride and again the radio was working great. But after I pulled the bike into the garage the radio just stopped working along with the cassette and CB. I checked all the fuses under the battery cover and they were all good. Is there a hidden fuse somewhere else that I should check? Or is there a wire that might have come loose? Thanks, Al
  5. I just wanted to say that I did the cassette removal mod yesterday and it's great! I made a nice little lined pocket to hold my ipod and whatever else. Thanks to the others who did this before me and posted the info online.
  6. There was a thread a while back about hooking an mp3 player in and somebody posted about one that plugged right into the cassette player. I searched ebay and found one from Hong Kong that was 16.00 with shipping. I decided what the heck for 16 I would try it. It took about 20 days to get it. I tried it out a little while ago and it seems to work. I am sure not recommending it since I haven't had it that long and it is from China but I thought I would post a link for it for other people to look at if they wanted. 8. 2003 Venture. Haven't seen this exactly in search of posts. Has anyone removed cassette and replaced with aftermarket audio? I realize would require losing door and trimming opening to fit. I hate stock audio system. Don't use CB or intercom. Would give away stock audio unit to anyone interested. Just looking for advice, I don't need to re-invent wheel (just maybe audio system). Thanks for any input!
  9. been working on this for a couple of weeks..........i added gauges where the cassette was...still kept the mp3 jack...........just did a test run....wadda ya think.......

  11. Hi does anyone have for sale or know where to get a cover for the tape deck on a 86 royale
  12. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-G4SJtTbnPc]YouTube - My cousin on a yamaha touring bike.[/ame] Check out the commet about the cassette tape, LOL
  13. Hi to all, Just received my cassette deck but having trouble sliding it into place? I removed it with the face plate on but won't go back in. Trying hard not to break dash. Screaming Red:think:
  14. I talked to the Stealer this morning about my CB not working. It is an intermittent problem. I can hear everyone else talking...can not transmit. I can hear my passenger talking... she can not hear me. I thought maybe a problem with the headset and Mic, traded mine out for my wife's ...same thing. I am also having another problem with changing radio stations. The bike is an '04 RSV with about 30,000 miles on the clock. I also complained about the cassette door hanging closed. I don't use the cassette player but I do use the Aux jack for Sirius radio and for my MP3 player. Also mentioned that whenever I get the horn wet, either by washing the bike or getting caught in the rain...the horn quits working. The Dealer told me to call him back on Tuesday with the mileage and the se`rial numbers from the bike.... said that he would have to contact Yamaha for warranty info, cuz the warranty has "levels" on the audio equipment. Anyone ever heard of this???? and what can I expect? I thought the warranty was bumper to bumper unlimited milage for 5 years. I feel like he's setting me up to screw me out of some money. Any comments?
  15. Hey all. I ran into a problem late last night that confused me and I was wondering if anyone has come across the same problem and possibly found a fix. Mother, one of our fine Canadian friends, has provided me with a cable that plugs into the DIN connector in place of the Cassette deck. It has a switch that toggles back and forth from AM/FM to the cable, and an 3.5mm headphone jack. I hooked mine up late last night. Got GREAT audio quality from my Garmin. But when I flipped the switch back to AM/FM I only got audio on one speaker (right) and it was very very quiet. I had to turn volume up all the way and even then was only moderate for a quiet garage. Should have been blazing loud! ?? I did notice that when I unplugged the Garmin's 3.5mm headphone cable, the audio volume from AM/FM doubled but was still quieter than what it should be. Any one have any thoughts?? Really don't want to stick the Cassette deck back in..
  16. I am playing with a couple ideas for the 1st Gen. stereo. I am looking for a couple dead cassette players. All I am looking for is an intact casing and top bezel. I don't care about the buttons or the cassette door. JB
  17. Thought some of you might be interested in this. Its posted at "thinkgeeks.com" Looks like a niceclean and portable MO3 solution for the Venture antiquated cassette ? http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/front/standalone_or_car_cassette_mp3_player.jpg http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/alt-image-zoom.gifZoom http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/alt-image-more.gifMore Images Will the cassette tape ever die? In between the beloved LP record and the now familiar CD, there was another music media format - the cassette tape. It was very popular during the 80's and one thing that definitely made it standout was that, unlike a LP, you could easily record onto a cassette tape. Before that your recording options were primarily limited to reel-to-reel tape machines, which were usually pretty large and sometimes not so friendly. Being able to record onto cassette tape also lead to the ever popular "mix tape" - which was usually a collection of kick ass songs you'd give to your wannabe girlfriend or someone else you were trying to impress. http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/other/standalone_or_car_cassette_mp3_player_embed.jpg This MP3 player is built into a standard cassette tape, letting you use it as either a uniquely old-school-style MP3 player, or with any car cassette or cassette player to play your music. You will have no problems listening to hours of your favorite songs via the built-in SD card slot, and you can easily change to different songs if you have multiple SD Cards. If you are into retro style looks but with a new technology upgrade, this is a MP3 player worth adding to your gear.
  18. Well many of you know that I have been thinking of buying a 09 Harley Ultra. Well it is a very nice bike with quite a few upgrades but at this time even selling the RSV Im not really in the mood in this economy to add another Payment when what I have is problem free. Therefore it is time to play. Instead of getting a note for 10 grand as I have lots of friends in the painting business Im thinking tiem for custom paint. No I wont tell you what it will be but a few may be able to guess. In addition to that I think the rearend swap and definitely seat work. If Corbin wont rework the seat for me then Rick will get to work his magic as well. Cassette player will get the boot and make the storage pocket. Did I mention I hate the Cassette player!!! One other thing I have in mind if money goes good is that I would love to powdercoat the wheels in Chrome or something different. It is time for a change and since I sold the Honda a few months ago I really need a project!! Wish me luck!
  19. Cassette players are so.....80's! Is there anything I can use to replace this worthless chunk of weight. I would really like something simple like an MP3 player, and have it work with the existing intercom system, heck while I'm at it I'd ditch the CB too.
  20. The door on the cassette deck popped open and now won't stay closed. Short of using duct tape to keep it closed, can anyone tell me how it latches and what I can check?
  21. Does anybody know where I can purchase the cassette cover plate for the 1st Generation? Somehow mine mysteriously left my bike!!
  22. Hi to all, I have a 99 RSV and my cassette deck will not eject, I can hear a beep sound coming from radio when I hit the eject button but nothing. Woundering if anyone else has experienced this. Screaming Red
  23. Hi to all, I have a 99 venture and on the weekend my cassette would not eject. When I hit the button I could hear a beep through my radio. Has anyone else experienced this before? Screaming Red
  24. Well I finally finished the horn install & the cassette uninstall. I now have the perfect spot to store & operate my ipod. Dan (DNBoll)
  25. I purchased a 2006 RSV last month and have a few questions: 1. What type of communications devices are recommended that mesh with the on-board intercom? We have 3/4 helmets. I was quoted a price of $300 at the dealership for a set and I'm hoping to find something more reasonable. 2. Is there a "fix" for setting the cruise control at speeds greater than 80mph? 3. The door for the cassette player sticks, and won't open without quite a bit of effort. Is there a way to correct this problem? Is there a CD player available that would fit in the same space?
