  1. I've bought some coils on e-bay. They are supposed to be off of a 89 venture. My problem is these coils have all the same color wires coming out of them. Red with a white stripe and a orange wire. In the wiring diagram there is supposed to be a different colored wire from every coil. Have I been taken? Are these coils off of a 89 venture?
  2. OK I going to install a 86 OEM Yamaha CB system in my 83 Standard. I installed the AM/FM system last year so that part is done. I bought a CB & Radio package deal at a garage sale last weekend. Came with CB - Antenna splitter - cables - noise filter -AM/FM Cassette radio unit - Amp unit - driver head set JM -driver&passenger CB remotes - radio remote - two speakers . Items missing so far that I know of is CB holding tray CB antenna I did some reading on the forum so that should help me some on hot wiring the CB. I have a few Q?s #1 driver intercom lead cable has a pigtail (3 wire) about midway down the cable what does it plug into? #2 Driver & Passenger CB remotes do they plug into the wiring harness?if so does anybody have a way for me to hook these up for a standard system?Might be better off for me to buy a wiring harness from a 83 royal? #3 5 pin cable from CB to amp system will I be able to hear the CB in my headset or speakers or both? #4 Will I be able to talk on the CB with my head set if so what do I key to make CB work?do not know if I have the complete system or not? Sorry for the Q's and being a pain, but I'm wanting to hook up the CB system for next years Eureka Springs meet. I like to know what I'm getting into before I start tearing the bike apart and know some on how this CB unit works. Thanks for all replys buddy Buddy
  3. I am checking out various GPS units. The boss is not going to approve a $500.00 unit. I don't care about the MP3 or XM on the Garmin. I already have both. There appear to be several in the $250-$300 range. I have two questions - First - how are you wiring these? Are you just using the lighter adpater or battery for power or are you hard wiring them? Secondly, if I'm going to be using a GPS it will most likely be riding two up with my wife. We will have communicator using the factory plug. We also have MP3 player coming through the speakers. How do you manage to hear voice prompts from your GPS? Can you tap in to the communicator line? Are these loud enough so that you can hear them anyway? Thanks for any help!
  4. never mind
  5. Does anyone know the pinout of the DIN connector on the factory CB for an 87. Thanks
  6. Hello all, I have been trying to debug a cb problem on my bike but I don't have a detailed wiring diagram so I can zoom down on possible cause. Yes.. I splitted the fairing and used dielectric grease on contacts, I didn't open all connectors just the one pertaining to the communication between the driver and the passenger. I think know which one it is because I installed a mic-mute a little while back but I may be wrong. Is it possible that the mic-mute will cause my transmit problem? Here is the symptom: The cb transmit rf level seems to be ok but the modulated audio is extremely weak so other people can hardly hear me. All they hear is noise and some time my voice in the background. The communication between the driver and passenger is working fine. I think that both transmit switches (driver and passenger) are OK and that both mics are working fine because we can communicate between driver and passenger no problem. So I am looking for some advice and also for a place where I can get detailed wiring diagram so I can follow the audio signal coming from the microphones. The Yamaha service manual doesn't help there is no way, for example, to follow the mic wiring diagram from the helmet to the cb unit. One last question... where can I find the schematics for my cb?? Thanks for your help Hermann
  7. I just installed the big horn from howards horns on my 06 RSV and it is VERY loud and great quality. I have never heard the stebel and others but my son has and says this is much louder. They actually don't give a decibel range for the horn. I used the hardware that came with the horn but they did not supply any wire...it is expensive at 150 bucks but worth the attention it attracts when I need it. After taking the stock horn off the right side, I used one of the existing holes from the stock horn mount, and used the black bracket supplied with the horn...I did not want to see any hint of a compressor so I drilled a 1/2" hole out the front of my saddlebag and mounted the compressor in the bag...a nice clean look, just a nice steel braided hose and horn showing to the rest of the world. They sent me wiring instructions for a Harley of course and wiring it that way to the relay did not work...so I found a thread on here about wiring another brand horn and it worked...just make sure the brown wire from the stock horn goes to post 86 on the relay, and the pink wire from the stock horn goes to post 85 and it will work using the existing horn button. They have several horns available but I wanted to make the most noise I can so went with the big horn.
  8. Really I love to enhance features & keep my bike on good shape. But really to get parts from responsable sources looks to be impossible. A year ago I got a wiring cabling from a 1986 VR, toghether with their fairing and structure in order to prepare to migrate it due to the headlight problem on the 83-85s with low visibility. This year I spent a lot trying to get as original as I can with an original CB radio, rider handle control and another accesories. Full FIASCO!!! CB doesn't work, CLASS reports E-4, and plastic broken. Good thing is as Electronic Engineer, I will go through this, but the only idea to re-ensamble everything back, put the OEM CB back not connected yet to the Amplifier, until I can go through this really make me seek, overall when I wast a full weekend putting all the pieces togheter. I start to believe that cheaper & better should be install a J&M system, and forget everything else. Even trying to get the 6 pin cable wiring was a PITA!!! (pain in the a...) Thanks a lot to all the supposed salers of tested parts.
  9. any of you know anything a bout them,i have one all hooked to a car am/tape player,in a tank bag, need sume sort of a wiring diag, want to try and put it on my voyager thanks lowell
  10. Does anyone know of a wiring harnes that is available to hook up trailer adapter without cutting into wiring? I knoe they make them for cars, but did not know if they are available for RSTD or RSV.

  12. OK guys need some help here, I got my Stebel Air Horn during the week from http://www.twistedthrottle.com and I got the plug and play wiring kit to go with it figuring to make it eaiser to install. Well the connections they have are different from what I have seen here, which are, connect the black wire from the relay post 85 to the ground, so I hooked up to the battery negative. Run the red wire from the relay post 30 with the built in 30amp fuse to the positive battery terminal. Run the yellow wire, from post 87 and hook up to the positive of the air horn. Next connect the ground wire to the negative side of the horn and ground it at the mounting bolt. Install the fuse next. Next run the blue wire from post 86 to the existing horn hot wire. Ok so here's the deal got it all done tried the pink wire first and the horn was quiet and was on at time of turning key on. So tried the brown wire, and same thing. SO then tried both together and got the sound I was looking for from the horn but it still, as soon as I turned the key on the horn sounded. I'm curious as to what will happen if I take the wire on post 85 and hook that up to the pink wire and just hook the brown one up to the post at 86. Any ideas or knowledge of what will make this work with the wiring kit, or am I better off just wiring it the way Larry has it? I do like the whole connection thing they include nice wire harness to plug right into the relay, makes for a clean look and easy to unplug. Anyway, any help would be appeciated, Scott.
  13. The part number is 46255. It seems ready made and cheap. I thought about using it so I could get a trailer.
  14. I just finished with all of the mounting of my tour pak and now I need to run the wires for lights. My tour pak came with lights and I added leds to the bottom edges and replaced light bulbs with leds that can brake, signal, and be running lights. Any suggestions on wiring? I thought about under drivers seat but do I need anything special or just splice. Thanks for any tips. 15. I just recently purchased a dual tourer corbin seat with heat (second hand) for my RSTD. Problem is, it came with no instructions to hook up the wiring. I believe each seat is made for a specific bike and the wiring is also. I went on the corbin web site but could not find any info (installation instructions etc.). If anyone has one and can tell me how to plug it in I would appreciate it. Thanks, Red
  16. I've got an 04 RSV and anyone who drives one knows the horn sounds like the cheapest thing Yamaha could find. Has anyone replaced theirs and were there any issues in changing it? How powerful of a horn can you install before there are some wiring issues?
