WHAT????? Everyone needs chrome and the more of it, the safer our scoots are!!! geeeeesh!! actually, it looks durn good mon!! -
I, for one, am with ya 110% ! And if you have no history of living in BC, you really don't know. As of a few days ago, we are now the proud holders of the title of having the lowest minimum wage in all of Canada... a min wage that has not been increased in over 8 years... isn't that just wonderful!!! I'm so skeered this thread is gonna go south ...

Amsoil is no different than other oils as far as what filter is used; however, I think Amsoil produces filters so that could have been a "sales gimmick"...??? let us know the results on your scoot re: adding the MotorKote. -
I don't know about a clutch reducer but I'd be looking into why your hand is hurting. These hydraulic clutches don't take a lot of effort or strength to hold the lever in (at least it doesn't seem that way for me) and I've ridden my son's Sporty and a few other bikes which has a cable and even those for me didn't seem all that bad albeit a bit more effort is req'd on those. All the best in your quest (no pun intended)

Hey Brad, I figured the meaning of your plates

and I thought it meant So Quiet Driving LackOfWhine Yamaha... -
Thinking about this more, I realize it probably doesn't apply to me because, I got my class 6 before ICBC came into being so I doubt those restrictions even existed way back then. If I recall correctly, ICBC was formed somewhere around 1972.
-
I just poked around the ICBC website. Some of it was contained within PDF documents.
-
Sailor, does your son have, on his license, a #13 restriction? Some "snippits" from ICBC... ** Limited-speed motorcycles – Any B.C. driver’s licence Can be operated with any class of driver's licence. Learners require a Class 6 or Class 8 motorcycle learner’s licence. Where an original driver’s licence applicant intends to operate only a limited speed motorcycle, the applicant would apply for a class 5 or class 6 driver’s licenceor a class 7 or 8 learner’s licence. Upon qualification on the class 6 or 8 road test, conducted on a limited speed motorcycle, the applicant would be issued a class 6 or 8 licence with restrictions 13 “class 6 or 8 not permitted to carry passengers” and 51 “Limited speed motorcycles only”. A limited-speed motorcycle is defined as: • No more than 50 cc engine displacement or 1.5 kw motor rating. • Does not require clutching or shifting after the drive system is engaged. • Has a maximum speed on level ground of 70 km/h. • Weighs no more than 95 kg excluding fuel and batteries. • Wheels must be 25.4 cm in diameter or more. Q. Are there any restrictions that may be placed on a Class 6 or 8 licence? Your licence may be restricted depending on the type or size of motorcycle used for your road test: • If you take your road test on a motorcycle 200 cc or less, you will be issued a licence restricting you from carrying passengers. • If you take your road test on a motor scooter, you will be issued a licence restricting you to riding motor scooters only. • If you take your road test on a trike or on a motorcycle with sidecar, you will be issued a licence restricting you to riding only threewheeled motorcycles. I hope you or your son fights this "tooth and nail". I'd sure like to know when this "restriction" came into effect.

uh...ohhhhh... careful, this one's "goin south" (political)
-
Seems like a lotta B/S to me. I got my class 6 in 1969 on a 125cc bike. There is nothing on my license that refers to any restrictions. I am going to have to look into this but on the surface it almost appears to be some sort of "cash-grab" conjured up by some pencil-pusher in our Government. And I ain't goin any further with that!! ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! Oh, and I might add that even in 1969, after getting my class 6, I carried a passenger...nothing was said then that I could not....a class 6 did not have any restrictions to pasengers to the best of my knowledge. Seems a bit strange since many of the bikes in those days were under 200cc anyway. And that makes me wonder how in the h3ll they would even know what size of bike I took my test on....I honestly doubt that was even a consideration. ggrrrrrrrrrrrrr this makes me mad! I feel bad for your son!... dang, what an ordeal.

Jeff... after changing it 5 times, has the whine been eliminated or at least reduced to an acceptable level?

It cost me $75 and it took the mechanic less than 10 minutes!! No removal of the tank.

it prolly happened so fast you didn't even notice it..... -
on "MY" computer??? ... this happens when YOU click the link...it says it might do this to MY computer??? how can that be??? :rotf: All kidding aside, something else must be causing that but you "may" get a "Please read below before entering our free Technical Support Library " page and you have to click the link at the bottom. Also, because of the above you will probably have to do a search for "clutch basket" and poke around until you find the one for changing it. You will get a few pages of results and I think the one you want is on the 3rd page. It's easy to spot as the subject is partly in Red and is titled "Removing the Clutch Basket".
-
FYI... here's a great article on replacing the basket... http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=002006&id=309&highlight=clutch%20basket Couldn't find anything similar in our own site...maybe there is.

Does anyone have a copy of this? I was involved in that discussion and I think I suggested it in one thread somewhere, maybe Cougar suggested it somewhere also. In any event, while it seems a good suggestion, possibly by the time a person got a basket that worked, the shipping costs back and forth may not be worth the effort??? I've suggested to Scott Harrison that since it appears unlikely Yamaha will try more than one basket thru the dealer, perhaps they'd entertain providing me directly with a basket and I'd swap it out myself.... his reply was " I am afraid this is not something we will negotiate or consider ". He is still pushing for my VIN number so I think I will provide it and see what comes of that. In any event, I'm eager to try this MotorKote product. If it does like others report, that might be all that is necessary to achieve an acceptable level of "whine".

Motorkote comments and tracking??

I ordered a 32oz on-line last night from the Can distributor...should be here by the weekend (I hope). That should last me quite a long time, considering the amount recommended to use in these bikes. -
After many, many days of glorious weather and riding, the weatherman just couldn't seem to extend it into the coming long weekend....we are in for cooler, cloudy, rainy days so.... it looks like I'll be sticking around the house and tackling all those little "odd-jobs" and "honey-doos" that I've been putting off for going on 5 months (basically the length of time we've had great weather). And... if I get my order of MotorKote by the end of the week, I will be changing out the oil/filter and adding the MotorKote and testing her out between the raindrops! woohoooo!

heh... mine was tight too (the OIL FILTER!) the first time so, after nothing else worked, I drilled a big hole thru it, stuck a prybar thru the hole and loosened it that way. Then, after all drained, new filter, new oil, running the engine up, checking the oil, put my tools away, etc, etc... I pulled the drain pan out and emptied it and... OMG!!! what are all those metal filings??? I freaked....thought they come out of the engine... and then I remembered drilling the hole in the filter.... :rotf: -
Install the old basket: .... Yamaha won't but the dealer will ... at a cost (they told me $50 and I had 2 weeks to decide...it's well beyond that now)
-
So, here's his latest reply... Good morning: I am afraid the 'I' basket is a bit of a myth but we have tried numerous things over the years to investigate reported noise issues. Motorcycles have inherent engine noises and certain factors are going to determine if a motorcycle's engine creates additional noise - break-in, oil used, maintenance, etc. Time and product monitoring have determined, with this specific model, that the noise as described in your e-mail is inherent. Various factors may contribute to the noise developing but changing baskets can actually increase the noise or not change it at all. Regards, Scott

I would think there would be a lot more to it than just "machine work". It would require not only that but also a lot of testing to ensure it would work all the time. And then there's the issue of ensuring that enough customers could be had to keep the cost to a figure that the market could bear. It's a "business opportunity" that would require a solid and well researched business plan and my gut feeling is that the business plan would prove it not worthwhile. On the flip-side, if it was, wouldn't one think that someone, even Yamaha, would have done this?? Winter Olympics??? never heard of it....
