  1. Thanks again, It was working fine until I flushed the system out with new fluid over the winter so I must have dislodged some gunk. I cleaned it out with a tiny piece of wire today so hopefully this will fix it. Tim:97:
  2. My fluid level is fine and the fluid is clean but where is this tiny hole???
  3. Thanks for the input. I drained about 1/4 cup of engine oil out - it was a bit overfilled. Also, bled a little brake fluid off at the slave cylinder and found that I had the clutch line laying against the coolant hose so perhaps the heat from the hose was causing the fluid to expand??? Anyway I took the bike out for a ten minute ride and it seems fine so far, we'll see how the ride home from work goes later. Tim
  4. My clutch works great until after I ride the bike for about twenty minutes, then it slips so bad I can hardley get the bike moving. I replaced the clutch and springs about two years ago. Could it be too much fluid in the reservoir or the oil level too high??? I think that I used wal-mart 10W40 when I changed the oil over the winter and I have never had problems with this oil before. Any help much appreciated! Tim
  5. Thanks for all the comments! It does handle pretty good, the suspension is lowerd about 1.5" but I lowered the rear frame section about 2". The bike is perhaps 200lbs lighter than stock. The "NOS" bottle is actually a fire extingusier painted to look like a NOS kit but is my coolant reservoir. The exhaust pipes I made from electical conduit and welded a washer inside each pipe for back pressure, with the "Jason Mod" she sounds pretty mean. The paint is Rust-Olem silver metalic (Lowes) for base coat with green metal cast by Dupli-Color (Auto Zone) for the color coat. Both are rattle cans, then I shot two coats of two part clear urathane (Tim's Garage) with spray gun. The gas tank is from a 1400 Suzuki Boluvard with the Venture fill neck welded on because I was too cheap to by a Suzuki cap. The rear fender is after market sport-bob (ebay), Also I had to use a sport bike battery as the stock monster would not fit under the seat which is off of a V-Star 1100 and drastically modified. I owe a big "Thank You" to Zagger as his 83 Venture chopper was a lot of what inspired me to tackle this thing. Also, the volumes of information on this site and the members here have been most helpful. Kudos!
  6. Well I realize that anyone who loves the stock Venture will not appreciate the mutilation that I have done to this bike but I wanted to share with you all what can be done to one of these if you don't mind wasting dozens of hours, hundreds of dollars and a perfectly good Yamaha Venture. To see the story unfold... http://www.kloppenberg.us/chopper.html
  7. Pappa Bear, That may have been my scoot. See- http://www.kloppenberg.us There are a couple of pics of the bike with the sissy bar. I made the bracket from a boat captains chair. Hope this helps, Tim
  8. Can anyone tell me which wire coming rom the TCI module goes to which coil? I have determined that number one cylinder is the left rear, number two is left front, number three is right rear and four is right front. Now, there are four wires coming out of the TCI- Orange, Grey, Yellow and White that go to the coils. I need to know which wire goes to which cylinders perspective coil. Any help greatly appreciated! Tim
  9. I'm replacing all the coolant hoses on my 83. I have scrounged all new hoses from the scrap box at work except the lower hose which has an opening of 1" on one end and 1 1/8 on the other and it's about 3 1/2" long. The Yamaha PN is 26H-12578-00-00 and they want 30.00 for it I know I should just cough up the $30.00 but thats giving in the to the man! Has anyone come up with an automotive option for this like there is for the thermostat? If I come up with one I will post it. Thanks!
  10. I have a set of modified mufflers and a fairing frame assembly listed in the classifieds if any are interested. Thank You! Tim
  11. Hey I'm cleaning out the garage and have up for sale a windshield, trunk, hard bags with brackets and a gas tank. Please check the classifieds or go to http://www.kloppenberg.us/garage_sale.html Thanks Tim
  12. Thanks for all the input. I think that I'll try to make some block off plates and see what happens. If only i could leave well enough alone!
  13. Thanks Earl, thats a lot of helpful info.
  14. Can anyone tell me what must I do to eliminate the anti dive system on my 83 Venture? I'm also interested in de-linking the brakes and would appreciate any feedback on this too. Thanks! Tim http:http://www.kloppenberg.us/motorbiketim
  15. Here is my 83 Standard, if the pic don't load you can go to http://www.kloppenberg.us/motorbiketim
  16. With the wife on the back I get around 43mpg on my 83 Venture. When I ride solo, about 38 or 39. Heavy throttle hand=poor fuel economy. Tim http://www.preachout.com
  17. My 83 turn signals quit last year. After trying flashers, fuses, etc. I unplugged the self cancelling unit and they worked fine. I have just left it unplugged. I'm not sure that the 87 uses the same system?
  18. First off I apologize if I posted this in the wrong place. I recently purchased a VFR Interceptor and will be selling my 83 Venture. It has about 38,000 miles on the clock, recent tune up, brakes, new clutch and battery. Runs and looks good. $1650.00. Located near St. Louis, MO. Tim
  19. Thanks folks, I went ahead and snaged one on ebay as I was in a panic- my bike has been apart for over a month and I'm a gettin anxious! BTW plastic body parts do not resist well to electric power saws! Tim
  20. Don't ask how I destroyed my fuel tank cover but I need a replacement. If anyone has one that they would want to sell let me know please. Tim
  21. Thanks folks for all the input. I ended up unpluging the self canceling unit (once I finally found the darn thing) and now they work fine. Tim
  22. Thanks Wilcruise, I would be interested in that manual. Tim
  23. I took my 83 Standard out for a short ride last night and the turn signals just stopped working. The lights and the indicator do not come on at all. I checked the fuse and its fine. My hazard lights work as well as everything else electrical is fine. I suppose I need to give in and buy a service manual for this thing. I have the pdf manual for the 1300 that someone here was kind enough to send me a while back, but I'm not sure if the componets are the same, as well as the wire colors etc. Here are a few questions I could use some help on. My bike is scheduled to get state inspected for license renewel next week, so I'm in a bit of a jam to get these turn signals working. Does the 1200 Standard have a self canceling device? Is there a relay wired between the switch and the flasher unit? Where is the flasher located? Electical troubleshooting is generally one of my strong points, I'm just not sure what componets this bike has and where the heck are they? Any help mucho appreciated! Tim
  24. It's no wonder they weigh a metric ton each! I hacked sawed the reverse cone thingys off the end of mine and then drilled six 1/2" holes in the back plate. Sounds and looks great! I will post a pic when I can. Tim
