Wer made it home after only going 120 miles out of our way to get there, I took a right instead of left and we were talking away and see this sighn and I say oh _____ I am sure you have herd it before, so we turn around and make our way there, and we ended up taking the pickup and trailer because of the rain ended up didnt need it but with road construction and detours glad I did. Anyway we get there and its just what I was told nice shape no cracks anywhere needs a good cleaning and most of the dust just blew off on the way home, he said sorry about that and I said its just what I wanted to see not spotless clean. I started it up took it for a ride runs out nice let it run checked it all over, loaded it up and came home. Tomarrow is cleaning day and go for a ride. Orlin

We are going to Janesville WI, to pick a 1992 Blue Venture today, sure hope that this ends up being a better one than the one I got three weeks ago, that was doctored up with stop leak. Looks from the pics to be in very nice shape everything is there still has the cargo bags . All of the plastic is is good shape. The PO said its been a very good cycle and that he doesnt ride much anymore and wanted to get his daughter a nice scooter to cruze around town on. I will get some pics on here when I get it home and all cleaned up. Orlin

Blowen Head Gasket
OrlinEngh replied to OrlinEngh's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I talked with the place that I got the cycle from and told them what I found, and they told me to let them know what I will need for parts that they would like to help me out. And that they would not have taken it in and sold it if they had any idea that it had been doctored up. Nice to know that they are willing to help me out I told him I will send him some pics of the cycle and the head gaskets so that he knows that I am being truthfull with them. The one good thing is I will know what I have once I get it put back together. Orlin -

I will be putting in a diffrent motor I took out the 2 front plugs and I could tell that number 2 cylinder is now getting coolant in the oil so I have the motor out and now I have to get the other motor in. I had picked up a couple of parts bike a couple of years ago and the one had a good 1300 in it. So Im thinkinig by the weekend I will be riding down the road again. Orlin -
Blowen Head Gasket

I still have the engine in I was able to get the rear head off with out pulling the motor. I am not sure the front one will come off with it in. Orlin -
Well its for sure the head gasket I pulled the head today and found a gasket that was in bad shape. The heads looked good and the cylinders look good. But I am wondering about the bearings the engine still sounded good but I have no idea of how long it had been drove this way. I did find that they had put stop leak in it so I am sure the PO new about this and thats why he traded it off, Is there a way to test the other head with out pulling it . Orlinhttp://0358/

coolant getting to the oil
OrlinEngh replied to OrlinEngh's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Okay after taking the twinkie off the water pump and seeing that all looked nice and clean no sighns of coolant in the oil and draining the oil and no sighns of any there. And when I called about gaskets I got to talk with one of the guys at the Yamaha shop here in Lacrosse and he said that I could rule out a bad head gasket that I had done most of what he would have done. And his thought was air in the cooing system and a stuck needle or float in the carb and it was fule building up in the oil. Same thing that the place I got it from said and what was said on here. So I did things to get the air out. This morning the coolant was the same as when I got done yesterday. While I had the air box off I sprayed carb cleaner down into the carbs and found that number three had no change so I kept sprying the carb cleaner in and it started to work. So I took it for a short ride came home parked it and shut the fule off and the oil level stayed the same over night. Sure hope I have gotten to bottom of this going to try and get out for a test ride today. Thanks for all of the help. Orlin -
coolant getting to the oil
OrlinEngh replied to OrlinEngh's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I took the twinkie off and the rubber seals were hard but I couldnt see any brakes in them, I noticed that there had been some sealer on them, can I use these over again with alittle sealer, I havent found any of the white sludge anywhere so far it was nice and clean under the twinkie and inside and there isnt any on the filler cap for the oil, I changed the oil and let it set and idle for allmost a half hour with the drain valve turned then turned it back and the temp gauge stayed a little above the half way mark so I took it for a 12 mile ride road speed and slow and it held there untill I got home and checked the small tank and it was filling back up again and heated up to the red mark on the gauge. I drained the oil it is brown in color and not milky looking. I talked with a guy the sevice dept where I got it and he said sounds like air in the cooling system, and I may have a sticky float that is causeing the oil to level to come up. Orlin -
coolant getting to the oil
OrlinEngh replied to OrlinEngh's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I pulled the sparkplugs and none of them look like new they havent been in there that long but they look used not clean like they have been washed. I took the air cleaner off but the hose was not hooked up but i didnt see any of the white stuff on the inside of the hose. There isnt any on the filer cap for the oil either. I will take the twinkie off tomarrow and see what I find there. Orlin -
I added some coolant to the small tank it was empty the radator is full and over night the small tank was empty, and the oil level was up. I changed the oil refilled the small tank to the full mark took it for a ride and it was pushing the coolant back into the small tank to where it would over flow. There is no white smoke from the exsust and it runs fine. I am hopeing that this wasnt the reason for the PO to trade it off. I Talked with the PO and he told me that he had just put a new thermotat and cap on the radiator. There is no coolant on the floor. Am I looking at a blown head gasket or could the water pump be leaking on the inside or the cylinder water jacket joint. Orlin

How do these come out. If one goes bad will it leak coolant into the oil and not leak to the outside by the spark plug. I noticed that the coolant level went down and added some and noticed that the oil level has came up. I just got this cycle and I hope that it is not junk it still sounds good no bearing noise so maybe I have caught this early enough. Orlin

carb problem
OrlinEngh replied to pmelah's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had the same problem this spring after getting some bad gas. It may take you less time if you take it apart doesnt take that long to do it then you can spray some carb cleaner in any hole you can and clean up the slide and check the diaphram, because if its bad you are going to need a new one or do a repair to get you by for awhile, And you will want to resync the carbs when you are done. And after using heavy doses of seafoam or berrymans you may want to put new spark plugs in it can be hard on them. Orlin -
Sure do like it nice and smooth down the road, have a couple of small bugs to work out but nothing big I put new speakers in and have a good sounding system tape deck works cb works now I need to get a couple of head sets. The PO just had new thermosat and cap, carbs done tuned up and new tires and decided to trade he seen something new. Sure glad he did. He is hopeing that the new one is as good as the Venture. Orlin

I called the dealership and they gave me the PO name and number and I got to talk with PO and he told of all had been done since he got it new and where all he had been on it had a nice chat. I didnt get to mention the site to him when we talked but will be calling him back to see if he found the intercom control for the rear. Sure like the cycle I got it last Thursday and we rode most all of the weekend on it. Orlin

If you are taking 90 you will be going threw our neck of the woods we could meet you in Lacrosse or Onalaska. and if you want a place to camp for the night you could just hop on hwy14 to Viroqua 2 1/2 hour ride to our place from Madison to Viroqua and then take hwy 14 from Viroqua up to Lacrosse 1 hour and back on 90. It would you a chance to see some of Wisconsin hill country. Orlin and Sharon
