  1. Dave, Where did you find the BikeVis and Podmod for $84??? The last time I looked the only place to order was from England, the stuff was priced in British pounds at way more that $84, and they wanted separate shipping for the BikeVis and Podmod which raised the price another $30 or so. I would be interested but not if I have to pay separate shipping of $30 for a one ounce part. Mel
  2. Welcome to the forum Humbucker. You might find the Venture History an interesting read. (Top line, third item from the left.) It is about seven pages or so of interesting information on the Ventures. There is also an earlier thread on known problems with the second gen RSV that might be helpful. Don't let anything there scare you off. Every bike has known issues, this forum is just honest enough to get a list together. Really nothing that is a deal breaker for most people. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1067 Good luck with your decision. Mel
  3. Very nice clip, Jack. Oshkosh is always a fun time. A "brand X" Captain friend (Wkboard) and I rode up, spent the day and then rode home to the Chicago area a couple years ago. It made a great day. I once had the opportunity to fly a UAL 727 in to put on display for the day. The Captain was a member of the USA acrobatic team that went to Russia. That was more than a few days ago. It's almost as much fun sitting around talking about airplanes as it is talking about motorcycles. Thanks for the video. Mel
  4. Maintenance - yes, wash and wax - no way, Alan, although I do windshields occasionally. Mel
  5. I have the maintenance manual, but it's often easier to search electronically. Thanks for the post. Mel
  6. I'm pretty sure Alan will forgive me. If not I'll help him with his next brake and clutch fluid change. That will surely get me out of the dog house! Mel
  7. Thanks guys for the answers. I read the book once, but didn't remember the system. I most often ride solo and like a soft ride so the preload stays on zero. The idea looked promising, but I wondered if it worked what the pressure output would be. I think I am back to looking at mini-compressors. Thanks again--to everyone except Alan (wkboard). What good is a Venture rider friend who knows nothing about Goldwings? Mel
  8. I currently ride a 2008 GW. http://www.stopngo.com shows a hose that supposedly connects to the GW compressor for the shocks that allows airing up a flat tire. Any one know anything about this? Where is the connection located? How difficult to make? Seems to me that it would be much nicer to carry one of the hoses rather than a mini-compressor. On the web site select motorcycle, then scroll a little past half way down to see the item. There is a six foot hose and a ten foot hose. Any idea if the six foot one gives plenty of reach for both tires? Thanks for any thoughts. Mel
  9. How many miles per peanut you get on that thing? Mel
  10. I believe it did change from Headset to Speakers when I recently changed my battery. You might want to double check the volume also after changing back to HS before putting the helmets on. Mel
  11. Do you have a link to where you found the best price? I have thought about the water cooled liners before, but haven't done anything about it. Mel
  12. I have the BreakaWay on my Suzuki Boulevard. It is very nice. Smooth and a feature that I especially like that some of the less expensive ones don't have is that the front break trips the lock to the release position. Good luck on your search. Mel
  13. Wayne, I agree with Goose, you need to set both the TV and the DirecTV settings. On my wife's kitchen Vizio the setting in under Menu, Setup, then the third item down is called Wide. It offers three choices, Normal, Wide, and Panoramic. I believe you will want Wide selected. If you have the DirecTV HDDVR the setting is Menu, Parental-Fav's&Setup, System Setup, HDTV (select it) then Video (select it). Under Screen Format select "Original Format". Go back to TV Ratio and select Widescreen 16:9. Finally on the Sat box itself there is a button labeled RES. Press it until 1080i is selected. You may not be able to select 1080i unless the box is connected to the TV with an HDMI cable I can't remember for sure. I hope this helps get you going. Mel SevenFour
  14. There is indeed power in prayer. I am so glad it worked out. I hope this turns out to be a job that you enjoy greatly not just interim work. Mel

    Ahhhhh

Well you timed your trip just right. The big billfishing tournament is over. http://www.loscabosbillfishtournament.com/ We were there just before the tournament and no captain would take us anywhere near a marlin, etc. We fished for tuna. Excellent eat though, catch it in the morning and have a local restaurant cook it that evening. Have a great time! Mel
  16. Kerry, Let me add my welcome from the Chicago area. I hung around with this group for a couple of years before actually joining. (I'm not sure what that says about my intelligence or sanity ???) I still have my Boulevard in the garage - and just added a 2006 Midnight Venture. Both are a lot of fun and even more so when out riding with these people. Most of my family are in Texas somewhere so maybe we will meet eventually at a M&E. And I would be glad to be a friend to any of the VentureRider.org folks. Mel
  17. I appreciate the info. I'll try again at the local locksmith. Mel
  18. I wanted a spare key for travels on my '06 RSMV. A friend said that ACE Hardware had the blanks. I had them cut two keys and both were unable to work the ignition switch. They would operate the trunk and the saddle bags, and turn the ignition from Lock to Off and Off to Lock but would not turn the ignition from Off to On. I went to the dealer who said I might not really want an extra key. The blanks were $46 from Yamaha. I don't remember the Owner's Manual saying anything about a chip in the key, but that much for a key doesn't make sense otherwise. Anyone have the word? Just curious. Mel
  19. Tom, I am indeed enjoying the bike -- a lot already. I am looking forward to some warmer weather so I can really get on and ride. Thanks for putting the listing in the classifieds. Mel
  20. I bought it and rode home. Walt, I know exactly what you were saying about the weather. Unfortunately I had obligations both Friday and Saturday --- so I took my rain suit, and I wore it the whole way home. I had one stretch of about one hour that was totally dry, the rest of the time it was misting if I was lucky and raining when I wasn't. I almost got an Iron Butt. Rode 1033 miles from Tuesday evening at 5:00p.m. until Wednesday at 9:00p.m. I just value my sleep too much I guess.
  21. Alan, I too am excited about getting on a Venture soon. I am leaving tomorrow to fly to IAH then to GPT or MOB to view the 06 RSMV. If all checks out I will return by Thursday on the bike. Monty, I ride all year. If the weather is nice in January, I ride as long as there is no ice on the roads or a ton of dry salt piled everywhere. But you're right, rust is usually a problem for vehicles here at some point in time because of the salt on the roads. The current owner assures me there is no problem with rust now so I guess I'll deal with whatever comes down the road. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/images/smilies/fingers-crossed-emoticon.gif Mel
  22. Gentlemen, Thanks very much for your input. I think I will try to go take a look this next week. If all goes well I may be riding a RSMV shortly. Mel SevenFour
  23. Yea, I should have just about two years exactly remaining on the five year warranty. I was also a bit concerned about the electrical system, whether the salt air might cause corrosion or not. Any thoughts? Mel
  24. I am considering a 2006 RSV with about 16,000 miles and always garage kept. It is located right on the Gulf Coast. Do you think rust could be a problem? In a car I would be a little leery about rust developing sooner rather that later, but what about a bike? Is there anything extra that should be checked on the visual inspection prior to purchase? Thanks for your input! Mel Griffin SevenFour
