And Yamaha didn't kill a rather successful, albeit poorly marketed Venture only to resurrect it a few years later. 1st as a Royal Star, then the 2nd Gen Venture. Lets not forget the extremely popular VMax that was stopped in 2007 and then brought back a couple of years later. And how about Yamaha's narrow approach at naming their products. That annoying VMax snowmobile that is always coming up on Ebay searches comes to mind. Gary

There are so many Royal Star/2nd gen Venture/VMax punchlines to this story bouncing around in my head right now. Gary

Probably at least has a leaky rear shock like some Ventures due to how low it is setting. Gary

Valves will float at 8300~8500 on a stock 1st gen. Been there, done that. I have hit over 10,000 with modified motor and no float. Gary

Not that this isn't a REALLY cool sounding idea, but it sort of sounds scary. The digital display sounds great, but the touch screen part is where it gets blurry. There is the potential for something like this to lead to distracted driving, which is often very bad on a bike. Not trying to be a wet blanket, cause I would be one of the ones to want one for the wow factor, but it will have its potential hurt factor. Gary

At some point in a guy's life it comes down to this... http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/ATT000161.jpg Four guys have been going to the same fishing trip for many years. Two days before the group is to leave, Ron's wife puts her foot down and tells him he isn't going. Ron's mates are very upset that he can't go, but what can they do. Two days later the three mates get to the camping site only to find Ron sitting there. The tent is set up, firewood gathered, and dinner cooking on the fire. "Geez Ron, how long you been here? How did you talk your missus into letting you go ?" "Well, I've been here since last night. After dinner at home yesterday evening, I was sitting in my chair and my wife came up behind me and put her hands over my eyes and said, "Guess who ?'" I pulled her hands off, and she was wearing sexy brand new lingerie. She said had been reading 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and she had a devilish look in her eyes. She took my hand and led me to our bedroom. The room had candles and rose petals all over. On the bed she had handcuffs, and ropes ! She told me to tie her up and cuff her to the bed, so I did. Then she said, "Do whatever you want." So, here I am !

Running 2 batteries
dingy replied to azuogu1's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Kinda correct, sort of wrong. The stator output is RPM dependent. The higher the RPM's, the faster the magnets on the rotor move past the coils in the stator and more energy is produced. On a 1st gen, vicinity of 2,500 RPM's will give maximum usable output based on Regulator/Rectifier rating of 26 amps. Anything past that is shunted to ground. Gary -
Running 2 batteries
dingy replied to azuogu1's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
There will be no increase in amps in a sense. You will have more amp/hour capacity though. Amperage is a function of voltage supplied divided by circuit resistance. You could have a million amp hour battery (rated at 12v, really over 13v) and the current pulled from this huge supposed battery would be the same as in your battery now. But, you would be able to pull that current for a longer time before battery discharged. Flip side of this is you also then have a longer charge time, as the R/R & stator output has a max limit. This being said, it is the R/R in combination with the stator output capacity that limits your avaliable amp/hour capacity, not the battery itself. Think of the battery as a sponge. It supplies needed power to start bike, which squeezes water from sponge. Then once motor is running, the R/R & stator start putting that drained water back in sponge for next start. The excess going back into sponge (battrey) is what is left over from the needs of the systems operating while bike is being operated. The higher the RPM, to a point, the more current put back into the system. If motor is idleing, there will still be a drain on battery as R/R & stator do not supply enough power at low RPM's to run lights, TCI, etc. Gary -

2nd oil drain plug on 1st gens
dingy replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Battery acid had ran down right side of block. This need an aggressive clean up to look good after coating. Strippers work good on most things, but block and head have many pockets that are difficult to clean out well enough for powder coating. Even after chemical treatment, I glass bead everything before poder coat. Sand is much core aggressive, but it does clean up parts well. Gary -
2nd oil drain plug on 1st gens

I referred to bolt as a 14mm in error, it is a 17mm head. 12mm I.D. copper crush washer under it. Not at the putting back together stage. Sandblasting block & heads in preparation for powder coating. Time consuming, sand blaster pulls 60 gallon air tank down fast. And the paint & clear coat is not easy to get off. Gary -
2nd oil drain plug on 1st gens

Yes, both 14mm hex head drain & the allen head drain on middle drive cover. These are both almost at the mid line of the middle drive cover, left rear side of motor. Gary -
Actually 36 of the of the 62 post to this thread, were by an owner of an RSV. Since math isn't apparently one of your virtues, that is a tad more than 58% of responses are RSV'ers. That's OK, you are in the majority in more ways than one, 70% of all statistics are made up on the spot by 64% of people that produce false statistics 54% of the time they produce them. Gary

Send me an address. I have a junk head that has a few buttons on it that are still good. Gary
