  1. Thanks Dom. I had searched on drive, then on shaft, but not driveshaft. Ebay doesn't allow wildcard searches anymore so I missed this one. Sent him a message to check length & if it is correct it has a new home. Now back to that pesky shifter shaft. Gary
  2. Ok, then I need a drive shaft. My MKII shaft is 13 3/4" long. None on Ebay that I found, other than ones included with final drives, which I have a VMax geared one ready for bike. Anyone have one to sell?? Gary
  3. It will probably get me a close estimate. I will have to go dig out 2nd gen shaft tomorrow. Thanks, Gary
  4. Randy, You are correct, it is an MKI, I attached another picture of the two side by side. The MKI has a different mount bushing for the brake caliper than the MKII does. I remember I needed a longer shaft on Tweety when I went to the MKII swing arm. Micarl had one that is on Tweety now. I may be OK with the MKII spare shaft I have. That's reason I need a measurement on the RSV to Verify it. I know the shaft is the same on the final drive end, and I am fairly sure it is the same on the universal end. So that leaves length to be verified. This is one of the many questions that are coming up on this project. Don't even get me started on the shifter shaft, its gonna have to be special. Gary
  5. Can someone measure a 2nd gen drive shaft for me please?? I need overall length of it. I have reason to believe it is longer than a 1st gen (MKII) by about an inch. This is based upon measurements of the swing arms I have. If you have an extra one, let me know, fairly sure I need it. 1st picture is 1st gen, 2nd is from an RSV. Gary
  6. Would you mind saying what it cost to have plastic painted? Did you prep it? Gary
  7. I have one on mine. It does work and keeps the bike cooler in my opinion. It's easier to keep the bike from getting hot, than it is to try to cool down an overheated one. Downside is the fan runs a much higher percentage of the time, thus more drain on a charging system. I have upgraded battery, regulator & stator so it isn't a problem. Below is a clip from the VMax site about a much lower cost version of the lower temp fan switch. I have not tried it though. I bought one on Ebay for about $45 and it works fine. The thread size mentioned below is different on an MKI than it is on an MKII, I think. Gary Lower Temp Fan Switch Like many, I noticed my water temp gets very close to the redline before the fan kicks in. Once it does, it cools down nicely but I feel more comfortable with the fan coming on at a lower temperature. The thread for the switch is 16m x 1.5. Using that info, I did some searching. I found a good cheap alternative on ebay that switches on the fan significantly earlier than the stock one. The one I got was from a 1988 Chevy Sprint, part number Beck Arnley 201-1367. Closes @ 185 Deg. F; Opens @ 194 Deg. F Fits in with no problem and works like a charm. Fan comes on a lot more but the water temps don't get over half way up the temp gauge. It cost me 5 bucks plus shipping.
  8. A little birdie told me there may be some custom leather in this bikes future !! Gary
  9. For what it's worth, attached are a few of pictures of the rear AIS unit from a 2003 RSV. Gary
  10. This is gonna be a tough one, but I will guess center footpegs ??? Gary
  11. Got the logo somewhat laid out in CAD. I have to put some more fillers in to tie all the letters together yet. I have the curvature that is need to match up to the tank in the side profile. Not that I didn't think the SylveSTAR idea wasn't worthy, it would not have been understood by the vast majority of the people I am around with the bike. I couldn't find an exact match for letters, so I traced each one and rearranged them. I didn't have a lower case e or s, so I used the o to make the e, and scaled the capital S for the lowercase one. Made a v out of the y. Gary
  12. Attached are a few pictures of speakers I put into my saddlebags last year. I can't be of much help as to what speakers to get though. There is an electronics recycler place near me, and I found an HP monitor speaker set one day that looked like speakers would fit. Gave him $5 for it and they worked. Not waterproof, but i doubled up a sandwich bag and captured it between speaker & bag. I t could use an amplifier on system, when I get front & rears balanced, the volume won't go up quite high enough to overcome surrounding noise. I had a set of 2" round tweeters in year before, they were about worthless. Gary
  13. My wife is 4'11", can't see anything ahead. But she has said that it probably is better not seeing whats coming cause not much she can do about it. She looks off to sides and takes pictures. Not a lot you can do to get a shorter person up higher that wouldn't effect the center of gravity at a minimum. If you put a 'booster' seat under her, then her reach to pegs will be altered. Gary
  14. And buckeye leaves are very hard to roll !! But on the plus side the nuts are easier to get out than seeds. Gary
  15. Tweety & Sylvester characters already are on the 83 bike. Gary
  16. Does anyone know what font is used for the Royal Star badge? My day job entails CAD mechanical design and full usage of a high end 3D printer. I want to print a revised set of tank badges and rename the Hybrid to 'Sylvester'. This will be a match made in cartoon land to Tweety. 17. I have a spare unit with the brown wire. It was in my bike at one point, I marked it as good & dated it when I took it out. PM me. Gary
  18. Attached is PDF that details how to check diodes in rectifier portion of R/R. Gary
  19. Wade, Look at my posts to thread below for picture posting procedure. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44037 Gary

    Wanted

Exact same spin on filter will work on 83-93 Ventures. Gary
  21. Very nice. May need to make one of those in a couple of years. Gary
  22. A small victory today. I have a rear brake configuration that will work. Due to the RSV having a 320mm stock rear rotor, finding a suitable combination has been a challenge. I got an RSV rotor on ebay, then found out it has a very different center hole pattern than the VMax rim. Also due to the difference in the VMax rim construction, the offset wasn't close to lining up to the center of the RSV caliper setup. I got a 1st gen MKII rotor, which is a 320mm also with a floating offset design. It is very close to being centered in caliper. Bad news is it is warped, but I am working on a refund from seller, then I will find another one. Picture attached. Nothing bolted down yet, but this will work. Motor is going to be stunning for a 1st gen unit. This is a teaser, more to follow. Gary
