1983 Venture Royale Bobber Project
dingy replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Look at the two picture albums linked below. The Rebirth of an 83 Venture series is the 83 I have completley rebuilt and modified motor to a VMax configuration. Rebirth of an 83 Venture The Hybrid folder is this winters project. Taking an RSV chassis and inserting a VMax configured 1300 into it. The Hybrid 1st Gen/RSV/VMax project You can also open threads I have started by clicking on link below, there is a lot of stuff there related to these two projects. On the gasket, I would think he should have one in hand when he pulls cover off for inspection prior to buying it. If it was mine & I was selling it, a stipulation of allowing the cover to be pulled would be a new gasket goes back in if you don't buy it. Gary

Yes you can. Gary

The grooving will be on the inner surface of the clip, not the exposed outer edge. You may be able to see grooving at split line. Gary

Fork protector
dingy replied to ChurchBuilder's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I thought someone here was making & selling fork boots. I haven't seen them mentioned for quite a while though. For some reason I was thinking it was one of the moderators, maybe Black Owl. Gary -
Larry, Sorry about losing your mother 1st of all. You might want to checked if that is in fact a legal requirement of your state after you have taken care of your mothers and things have settled down It sounds a little like a ploy a funeral home could possibly use when a family is vulnerable to get them to spend money for services that are not wanted. While this would not help in the case of your mother, it might give you some insight into your choice of a funeral home in the future. I am in favor of cremation, but my wife is very against it. Cremation is not mainstream yet, but of the several funerals I have been at where the individual was cremated, it seemed to be a less somber setting. The cost is what I am looking at, when I pass, I would rather my wife dispose of my body via cremation, which is much more economical than being embalmed & displayed in an expensive box, then put in a vault. I won't need the body anymore so save some money, take a cruise or a vacation with the money saved. Nobody is gonna come look at me anyways. If she goes first, then I will do what she has requested. Not because it is what I think is right, but I know her family has similar feelings. Both of my parents wanted cremation and there wishes were complied with. Gary

Looking at the post referred to it has the color codes for the rear as: Left Rear Speaker--------Red + Left Rear Speaker--------Brown - Right Rear Speaker-------Red/Yellow with a gray Strip + Right Rear Speaker-------Brown/Black - I have a front sub harness in my hand from a 2003 RSV. It does have the two color coded wires that are marked for the right speaker in it. But the left speaker pair colors are not present in the harness at the connector coming out of the Radio Master unit. The schematic shows 17 wires coming out of this connector and that is what is in the harness I have. Very possibly there was a change at some point, just relaying what is in the 2003 harness. Gary

Attached is a PDF I made of data Prairiehammer posted See if you can read it. Gary

I remember this also, but I can't locate a service bulletin that verifies it. Attached picture shows a shot of the junk block that is setting in my RSV Hybrid project. It is a 1200. Red arrow points to where I recall the blocks being center punched at. This block was marked as repaired. This is left side above middle drive cover. Gary

Not disagreeing with you Carl. The washer, however is the cause of a couple of other failures that make the transmission jump out of gear. The rounding of the dogs on the fifth gear (#13 in fiche) which engage with the second gear (#14 in fiche) is what actually causes the jumping out of gear. This wear would probably be prolonged quite a bit with a rider such as your self. Picture attached of the dogs on the 5th gear wheel from a tranny that was failing. Not very obvious, but the left side of the dog is rounded quite a bit more than the opposite trailing edge. Gary

Attached are some pictures of the cause of failure in the 1st gen MKI transmissions. 1st one has a good clip pair setting on right. Gary
-
It is not absolutely going to fail. Depends probably a lot on how hard bike was pushed in 1st-2nd shifts. Main culprit was a pair of retainer clips on the rear transmission shaft being to soft and wearing. This allowed rear shaft to offset farther than design allowed thus causing tranny to jump out of 2nd. There are other parts that get damaged when this failure is not fixed at its onset. Usual mileage number I have heard is 50,000 and higher. There is a lot of awareness about this issue, since it isn't an easy fix. It's one of the main talking points when someone is contemplating buying an early Venture. There is probably no way of finding the percentage of failures for this issue though. Even the VMax'x have a very similar issue, but not as often. Gary

Last 1985 that has 2nd gear problem had last 4 digits of 1413. Service bulletin attached One way we could start finding out production numbers of the Ventures is to post our serial #'s. That would then allow us to get a minimum production run by taking the highest # and subtracting 100 from it. Serial #'s aren't a huge risk to publish in my opinion. You can walk up to almost any vehicle and read the serial number from it. Gary

The 16 count means there are 16 of these in the motor. The shims are somewhat unique in that you would not need 16 of the same, but that is the way many parts suppliers software works. Picture is from partzilla.com site. Above 1st red block is notation 'Price is for one part' Gary

I just happen to have a fairly nice one that I got for my RSV Hybrid project and found out it wouldn't work. You can have it for what I paid for it plus shipping. It was included with other parts I got from Piinwall so shipping to me is covered. $39.95 & actual shipping to you. 6.47mm thick, 2001 RSV Gary

I think the line 'we believe is the sister to the little boy' might be a clue. Gary

Hesitation 2k-3k
dingy replied to mralex714's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Did it run OK at some point after you put the new TCI in? Then develop the bog issue. You didn't get the version of the TCI that had the cutout issue. Also look at this thread, it helps people know what bike you have. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=58880 Gary -
What if we don't want a shirt? Last year, shirts were a separate line item. My wife is not a tee shirt type. Not that she doesn't have a few, but they have craft type things on them, bears, snowmen etc. Gary

Actually, it will be just about impossible for the contents of the package to be guessed. I put a some things in there that I have had that my mom used to wok with. She has been gone since 1990 and I think Angel will find this stuff useful. I've been wrong before, but its worth a shot. Nothing kinky here don't go that way!! But maybe profitable. Gary

Oh no my friend, those fine newfangled ULTRA modern machines known as an RSV by many (and HD1AB's by some) are very unfamiliar with a shock problem, now aren't they ??????? Gary
-
Let's see who can guess exactly what's in the box first. First totally correct answer gets a steering head wrench as a prize. Angel can post what he got, should have it Tuesday. A little help, its in a shoebox size priority mailer box & weighs 8 lbs., and box is full. You can all track it, USPS.com 9405509699939633008056 Entries end 30 minutes prior to his getting it. Gary
