  1. So when are you learned Venture gurus coming up to the northern areas? ; )
  2. Oooh very very nice.. I live in Nova Scotia and would ride out a day or two south to gather up with others for such an event.. So much I'd love to get done to my bike but shy to do it myself without seeing someone else do it.. (show me and I learn).. Currently up here, I install leveling links and RK pipes for other RSV riders.. same as me, they wouldn't find it that hard but if you never saw it done before you are shy of it.. Please DO drop me a line if anyone is having a Maint Day in Mass or north to Maine etc.. I'd LOVE to attend and learn!! Good on ya, gents!
  3. The Gold Emulators are great for race bikes and riding on nice roads.. but if you have the typical roads, the Gold Emulators are counter productive because of how they are supposed to work, you actually get a sharper and harder dampening feeling so you feel more of a jarring sensation when you hit bigger bumps.. I had them in my VStar and pulled them out after a while, installing Prog Springs which did the job much nicer.. Dunno if that has anything to do with your current ailment but tossed it in as a 'maybe" ?
  4. How did you find their fitment compared to others? Thus far, most helmets I've tried will work in the XL size, but a few fit best at Large.. Does the KBC seem to follow a standard fitting size? I think this might be the one I'd be looking at.. Thanks again
  5. Oooh super bonus! Thanks M8
  6. You REALLY gotta love this Venture community... Nice and impressive.. As long as you're on two wheels with bugs in your face or windscreen it doesn't matter what you ride, but riding a Venture REALLY makes it special.. Warms the heart, doesn't it.. Cheers to all who responded to the gents call for aid..
  7. MANY thanks! The little added gems like that make a huge difference.. Much appreciated..
  8. Thanks M8, this is what they went by to tighten it the first time.. I was looking for the how to get to the bearings and repack them guide.. Sorry I should have specified more clearly. Is the Yamaha service manual fairly accurate in this aspect? Cheers
  9. You gents seem to know the full skinny on how this is all done.. Is there a thread, article or a 'how to' I can show the mechs on how it should really be done, something that doesn't leave much to interpretation? I'd rather not take it to the local Yamaha shop as they don't service a lot of RSV there and the horror stories abound.. I'd take a road trip out to see you guys to have it done 'expertly' but I think it's too far to go lol.. Thanks in advance..
  10. Thanks M8, I'll have a look at them if I can find one locally..
  11. A good interesting read Sky_doc.. Many thanks.. sent you a PM. Cheers
  12. Now that looks like just what I'm looking for.. if only I can find one locally to try out.. Helmetcity ships to Canada as well.. bonus! Thanks for the tip!
  13. The ideal thing is to find one locally, try it on for size and then order one from online if you can get it to the door at an amazing price.. However.. just trying to find one egads
  14. Thanks Tom.. I'll check into it.
  15. Thanks M8..
  16. the bike just turned 40,000 miles.. after they tightened it, the bike handled SO much better and wobble was gone.. it was very much out of adjustment as they had to turn it a lot, they said.. When the bike was up on the hoist and we did the bounce check, it bounce over 6 times, it was that loose.. They said they had to do a quarter turn to tighten it up so that the bars would bounce once and settle into the resting position.. (they followed the instructions found throughout these forums etc) When they had it up and loose, they turned the bars back and forth, feeling for any flat spots.. it was THAT loose to start with.. I'm just starting to feel it come back just once in a while, indicating to me that perhaps it's time to get it done up properly this time. I'm the 3rd owner of this bike, bought it when it had 20,000 miles on it just a year ago.. after all the maintenance I've done to the bike thus far, I'm getting the feeling the previous two owners didn't really get much tender lovin care to the bike as they should have..
  17. Hard to find helmets in this area.. seems they only want to carry cheaper brands.. few selections.. I'm lookin..
  18. Looks like it's brake pad change time coming up soon in the front.. most likely in the rear as well.. Instead of the Yamaha pads.. what's the general consensus on the EBC Double-H Sintered Brake Pads? Do people feel they perform better? Last any longer? Thanks in advance.. Cheers
  19. Hi guys, after some nice help from the lads here about tightening the steering neck bearings as a temp fix to some steering wobbles, it seems that now I'm going to have to get them either repacked or replaced.. The techs who did the tightening stated that they did not feel any flat spots so the bearings should be good as is.. just needs repacking and proper tightening.. fun.. I was perusing various cycle sites and came across this one.. listing bearings.. what's the thought on these? (if I needed to replace mine after all) http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/14/138/21652/405/PITEM/All-Balls-Steering-Stem-Bearing-Kit-2006-Yamaha-Royal-Star-1300-Venture-Parts.aspx
  20. Hey guys, I'm doing a whole lot of riding on my Venture and enjoying every minute of it.. wow.. what a fantastic bike.. I am searching for a GREAT touring helmet.. one that will easily and nicely accept comms, comfortable, quiet and lightweight.. The 3/4 helmet I currently use places the speakers too high up into the helmet so that they are sitting above your ears.. weird setup.. I can't wear a full face or modular (full face composite) type helmets due to the fact that last year's reconstructive surgery left me with my chin so far forward that I can't wear those anymore.. so strange.. (but I'm not strange looking, honest) Any recommendations from thems who rides a lot? The local shops only seem to stock the same junk helmets that don't seem to fit or lack the nice touches a person wants for long range riding.. ya know? Cheers
  21. Add a passenger.. you'll want to strangle yourself after all THAT confusion hehe
  22. My biggest curiosity is how would one discover if his shock is devoid of oil even if it holds air? I'm the 3rd owner of the bike and feel the previous owners didn't properly maintain the bike, so I'm wondering if the shock might have splooged it's oil out on one of them.. As I said, it holds air but not sure if it's in good shape.. ya know?
  23. HA, had THAT happen to my VStar as well.. I had the Chubby Air filters on (round K&N filters directly on top).. couldn't figure out what had happened until I sorted it out.. I ended up having to use the special BANG feature of the bike today on a road trip.. A cager decided to play silly bugger with us on the open highway.. playing the matching speeds game to annoy us.. until I hit the kill switch.. BANG.. he wasn't around much longer.. scared the beggesus out of him..
  24. This evening, I just turned the 40,000 miles mark on my 06 Midnight.. I'm the third owner and bought the bike with 20,000 miles on the ODO and I've apparently put more on the bike than the two previous owners.. Seeing how we have a short riding season here, I'm guessing that's quite decent.. But I ride for medicinal purposes as well..
  25. Het there in Speedy River.. I used to live in Moosejaw of all places.. The audio problem might seem weird and intermittent right now but if it persists, check the cabling as it comes from the handle bar unit down through and around the front of your neck.. Mine was basically 'choked' off and squeezed that hard by other cabling and hoses in that area that it ceased working all together.. Once I rerouted the audio cable so it wasn't squeezed anymore, its been working perfect since.. As much as possible I don't push my fuel limits down if I can help it.. every once in a while I'll test it where I know I'm within a few miles of a gas station.. and it's relatively constant now after I had changed my fuel filter..
