  1. hehe that would be sweet.. =)
  2. Funny enough you mention that, I'm already planning a trip to TX next May to get some maintenance learnin' under my belt by some of the learned tech in this forum.. Gonna try to time it in so that on my return trip I'll be able to hit Rolling Thunder.. I'm interested in learning how to do the neck bearings, floats and valves, plus anything else that might pop up lol.. We did that 1800+ miles from here to Sky doc in 2 full days.. we likes to ride, can ya tell?
  3. Just think of the most ignorant impossible location on your bike to put a fuel filter and that's where you're going to find it.. Under the seat, near behind the coolant overflow tank.. you take the left, centre and right panels off, unbolt the fuel pump for access.. be sure to turn off the fuel valve (petcock) and be ready to catch a bit of fuel when you pull the line off the filter. I just reached down and push the filter out of the holder and push the new one back up.. BE SURE to verify the flow direction arrow when you install it.. It doesn't take me long to change one now, I've been changing them on my friends' RSV this summer.. a little preventive maintenance goes a looooong way!
  4. There's one of the ride videos I posted where you can actually hear the whine they refer to. I'll be doing some more recordings in a day or two with the Larosa pipes (loud) and you should still be able to hear the whine over the pipes..
  5. Shame.. I'm not sure if MINE is noisy (06) but it sounds the same as my buddies' 05 and 08 models..
  6. Ahh but it 'could' be as my CC did disengage a coupla times on this trip.. I'll have a boo at the link and see if this might be the case.. many thanks M8
  7. Thanks M8.. I'll be contacting them for a kit (and gasket) real soon.. Cheers
  8. LOL You think YOU have too many toys? Man, I have am Archos A500 bullet cam, SDR-S150 cam, Hero Cam and now a Hi Def Helmet Cam unit that I will be testing out later today or tomorrow. I would not suggest mounting a helmet cam on the handlebars. Depending on some cameras, the vibes will make it so blurry you won't see anything or impart a resonance to recording that the video will look like it's 'sheared' or wavy.. certain frequency vibes will do that. The Hero Cam is water proof to 30ft so I used it more often and usually mounted on the front fender of the bike.. seems to work OK, or on the helmet as you had seen in the clip, the NOTCH segment was almost a full hour long on NiCad batts but the ride up the mountain, I had used Duracells and it bailed after 11 minutes.. grrr.. The SDR-S150 is hand held and gives awesome results for the size.. up to 3 hours of recording on SD memory.. I carry enough batteries and cards to film over 20 hours.. but didn't have the helmet mount for it.. The Hero helmet cam works OK but as you can see, it does suffer from colour balancing and slow exposure correction.. The SDR-S150 is super fast and does the dark well enough. Cheers!
  9. It was too funny that it blasted rain JUST as I was putting the helmet cam on. Last time I was up there there skies were 100 miles vis and sunshine..
  10. Thanks M8.. this was my 2nd time up there.. 2 years ago I did it on a VStar and thought my head would explode.. but this time it was like.. "we're done already??" haha My buddy thought his head would explode LOL.. I purposely didn't visit the museum again JUST so I would have an excuse to go back up there next time I'm in the area. The riding video is done with a Helmet Cam (Hero).. You can see local videos here in Halifax Nova Scotia area at http://www.myvstar.ca/waverley/
  11. hi guys and gals! Just got back from a long trip down into the USA and on the way back we decided to make a small detour to climb Mt Washington on the bike.. the whole week was all sunshine and heat!! except for one day out of 12 days we were out.. http://www.myvstar.ca/washington/ Hope you enjoy the video. Cheers
  12. Insomnia sucks.. I was reading through a lot of the tech service tips for upcoming work (clutch, lubes etc), I'm the 3rd owner of my 2006 Midnight and I'm discovering much to my chagrin that the previous two owners most likely didn't get much servicing done to this bike.. So I'm going through everything with a fine tooth comb again, now that I know more about this bike.. I bought it with 20,000 miles on it, and I just turned shy of 46,000 miles on it when I got home from visiting Skydoc (leaving his house with 44,000 exactly on the clock Needless to say I'm getting my money's worth out of this bike.. I came across the articles about fixing various noises from dry clutch hub drive pins.. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1705]Rear End Noise - Yamaha TSB - VentureRider.Org[/ame] In this article, the tech alert describes how to dry fit the rear axle (minus wheel) to ensure proper alignment. If the axle binds or is difficult, they say to undo the 4 acorn nuts that attaches the final drive to the swing arm, then, aligning it to permit sliding the axle freely etc etc.. They don't mention what is used to align the final drive? What kind of shim is used then? I'm missing the point on this one here how re-tightening the acorn nuts will cause a proper alignment to happen? Can anyone clarify this? Specifically, what do you do if you slide the axle in and it binds? Thanks in advance.
  13. hehe all that 'awesome' 2nd gen power is there but ya know, the roads are slippery with all the HD oil.. Just kidding.. HD's don't leak oil anymore.. do they? I'll contact PCW Racing and order the clutch spring upgrade.. I read the tech library article on how to change a clutch stuff.. I wouldn't call it 'confusing' but never having seen a clutch taken apart on a bike before, I'm hesitant of doing it myself.. may leave it to a shop.. Its one of them things, ya know? I'm more afraid of pooching it and doing more damage and then costing me more down time and money.. However, if I learn to do this one myself, then I'll be able to help my buddies do theirs as I know some of them might be slipping as well.. Cheers!
  14. Thanks M8.. I'll check it out. Cheers!
  15. Thanks buddy, riding at those revs and speeds is great for 'hair on fire riding' however for the casual cruising it's a little asking for too much to run at 65 in 2nd gear for hours.. ?! Cheers
  16. Hmm twice now, 1st time it happened almost cost me an accident involvement and tonight it happened again but just a puzzlement. The first time I wasn't sure what had happened but twice? Hmm here's what is happening, hopefully someone could lead me in the right direction for help.. 1st time it happened, I was cruising along at 60 to 70 mph in 5th, and went to pass a car (2 lanes same direction) but out in behind of me a sports car traveling super fast came up on me very fast.. wow, caught ME by surprise! So I dropped the hammer in 5th gear and there was a very noticeable lack of acceleration and a higher rev of the engine and eventually, things started to speed up.. This wasn't the typical too high a gear for the need, it was different. 2nd time this happened, I was cruising along at 55-65 mph in 5th.. just needed to scoot around a slow moving vehicle so I dropped it in 4th and dropped the hammer... and the same thing happened.. wow.. I've never felt this with any of the bikes I've owned and I'm thinking that perhaps my clutch is dying (why not, everything else on this bike has eventually died and been replaced lol).. I climbed Mount Washington no probs, and the bike slows down properly with engine de-acceleration.. I cannot duplicate this symptom in low gear.. like dropping the hammer in first gear doesn't give me the same symptoms but it's not as spirited as when I discovered my rev limiter a while back.. So, what do you think is wrong here, and what are my options to get this working properly again? No warranty on the bike here in Canada but there is when I visit the USA. Thanks in advance!
  17. Now you know why some people are beaten for no apparent reason... LOL Good one though
  18. My friend has them on his bike and it's like night and day to rubber lines.. no flex.. Where did you get your lines from?
  19. Even the tech who fixed the bike was puzzled by that.. I had showed him the signals flashing fast before he went on to do his trouble shooting.. and he was puzzled that the problem had disappeared as he never did anything else to the bike but replace the pump.. that's all.. And he couldn't trace anything back.. The only thing he thought might have been possible is that the ignition module might send a signal back through something that makes it happen like that.. but who knows. All I know is that I'll be very observant when ever a shut down ever occurs again on this bike.. the first time was the fuel filter, this time the fuel pump.. too much strain on the pump trying to suck fuel through a fouled filter for so long.. (take note: a clean filter may extend the life of your fuel pump
  20. Its the other way around here.. Amsoil is abundant while the mobil is sooooo hard to find lol 20W40 then it is?
  21. I got home from our long trip to PA where I experienced a weird shut down which turned out to be a weird fuel pump issue. I was emailing a friend about it and he details to me how his bike is shutting down on the side of the road but restarting again after a few minutes. Strangely enough, I asked him if his signal lights are flashing fast to which he replied he 'thought' they had but they are not consistent. He's pretty sure they flashed rather fast when he was pulling over onto the shoulder when the bike conked out. I sent him the info of what happened to mine so he can see about getting his fuel pump checked out. I'm tempted to call the Yamaha tech reps to find out if these fast flashing signals are a trouble shooting diagnostics.. Hmmm I'm happy to report that after the fuel pump was replaced on my bike, it's been awesome and working so well that we even climbed Mount Washington on the way home.. Just had to do it because it was there.. (note: it's a much easier climb up now as they paved the last part up to the summit now.. there is only a short dirt section left.. but it's so easy to climb now.. )
  22. Eh, Salut la.. I was thinking of switching over to Amsoil as I do a lot of riding and tend to change my oil a lot.. I had used Amsoil in my VStar with no probs.. How do you find it in the RSV? Cheers from Halifax
  23. haha I can relate, wouldn't want to run my Larosa's on a long road trip but they are fun for local rides and such.. on and off in 10 minutes or so.. nice.
  24. Still haven't found anything suitable for a touring helmet and I need to replace mine soon.. woo.. On the recent road trip into the USA I finally got a chance to try a lot of helmets and discovered that Bell helmets don't fit my noggin properly.. Additionally, I had reconstructive surgery to my head and face last summer that REALLY left me with a weird shaped face and head apparently.. The Bell you listed there won't close over my face as my nose is in the way.. I don't have a long schnoze but my chin and nose are now located too far forward.. Ok I have a BIG head.. (XL) sigh..
  25. I have the same thing on my 06 Midnight, started JUST before our road trip to see Skydoc in PA.. I did discover which general area mine is located in and if I jam a "ShamWow" (yeah, they do work!) between the rear seat and the lower plates under the right rear speaker, the buzz-rattle goes away.. but I can't figure out just exactly is making the noise.. I'll save that for this winter when I can pull it all apart properly.. However, my cure for that rattle is to re-install the Larosa pipes back on.. What rattle, what whine? What's that ringing noise in my ears though?? (ear plugs a must) Addemdum... I went riding last night and that frikken buzzing / rattling noise was bugging me so badly, I pulled over on the side of the road and gave the hinge bolts an extra turn and voila.. buzz gone.. dang.. wished I had thought of it earlier!! thanks! =)
