  1. Dont suppose you can link the files here for those of us that don't do the Facebook? I'd love to have one for my phone mount!
  2. On a recent road trip, I noticed that some issues were developing with my clutch. After pulling over, I discovered the reservoir was almost empty. Topped it up and made the rest of my trip with intention to investigate when i got home. After reading around on here, it sounds like I've got a bad slave. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any documentation on exactly where this is, how to test it, how to replace it or even where to find a rebuilt or new one without going to a stealership. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks! -Russ
  3. Thanks all! I didn't realize it was full hydraulic! I'll crack open the master today and see what I can find.
  4. I've noticed that my front brake has a weird hitch in the lever when i use it, almost like the cable is sticking. I bought a cable oiler but I can't figure how exactly to use it on my RSV. On other bikes ive had, there was exposed cable that I could clamp onto, but that doesn't appear to be the case here. Any suggestions or pics of how to do this?
  5. thank you for this confirmation. between the two of us, we're around the 570 mark, so i was concerned. now to figure out how much air to put in that rear shock. 😉
  6. Hey all, i've been searching all over and i'm trying to find out what the actual rider and passenger weight capacity is for the 07 Venture. the manual states 410 lbs, if I remember correctly, however i've seen some things that lead me to think this is an under-estimate. I want to take my 17 year old for a ride, but seeing as he outweighs me, i know we'll be busting that 410 mark, so i wanted to find out what ya'lls experience has been regarding the actual combined weight capacity. thanks in advance!
  7. Hey Firewood! Welcome to Venturerider! first thing i'd ask is do you have experience with bikes of this size? It's an 800 pound beast. lower center of gravity than the 1st gen but still a heavy bike. rock solid at highway speed but at low speeds can get a little scary if you aren't used to it. if you're looking for things to look for before buying one, it's just like any other bike. check the condition of the bike. tires, suspension, forks, does it look like it's been well maintained? check all fluid levels, look at the fluids, are they dark or clear? these bikes are built to last well past 200,000 miles if you take care of it. but you'll need to be the ultimate judge on it's condition and if it's worth it, to you, to pay whatever they're asking.
  8. thanks! I was unaware that this was an option! i'm assuming it's a bit more involved than just plugging something in to some spot that i'm not aware of? would any after-market Tach work? I'd love to see how some folks have implemented this.
  9. This is the first bike I've ever owned that doesn't have a Tach. In the past, I'd only use it as i was getting used to the bike and then as I got accustomed to it, i'd shift by sound. It was a bit odd getting onto this bike without that guage. Then i found in the owners manual, it's discussing checking the idle speed and it specifically calls out values for RPM. is there something I'm missing here? some magic tach that i just haven't found yet? like that darn clock that i didn't know was there until i read it in the book?

    I'm Back!

thanks ya'll! @Marcarl From looking around, it seems the only things that have changed is what some folks are riding! same group of awesome folks! @RDawson anytime you're up Bardstown way, let me know. we're planning to do some touring around the state to get me back used to being in the saddle, so i'll holler if we head your direction. got a few distilleries that way i wouldn't mind swinging by. @campfire12 @Red Ryder thank you! happy to be back with everyone!

    I'm Back!

It took me 11 years, but I'm finally back and in the saddle of a RSV. In fact, it's not just any RSV. Two days ago I purchased @Dano's 08 along with what I'm told is Aussie Annie's trailer from her first trip to the US. Really hoping to reconnect with some old friends on here, make some great new ones, and become part of this community again. I'm now in Central Kentucky, so if anyone is in the area, hit me up and we'll go for a ride!
  12. I wonder if they could drop a VentureRider logo up in there....
  13. I guess since I sold my Venture and I'm on the Silverwing, I'll round that number up to an even 34.
  14. I've thought about a 2nd gen, but I think i'm still a few years away from one. I hear that with your AARP card you get a discount at the dealer.
  15. Yup, i'm selling my 1986 Venture Royale. it's up in the classifieds. I'm sick of working on it. I don't have the time or the mechanical knowledge required to hunt down the demons. I just pray someone from here gives it a good home so I can then go get another 1st Gen that isn't going to require as much work. Maybe then I'll be able to make it to more than one meet & Eat every three years.
  16. I'm sorry, this was about trailering a bike? I thought he was asking about putting the girl on his RSV.
  17. Unfortunately the idiots aren't consolidated in one or two locations. I see them race up and down the main road through town almost daily, trying to show off. One on a busa with a throttle lock, came past me, cut close into my lane, then stood up on the seat of the bike with his arms out like a tightrope walker. All I could do is pray that I wasn't going to be the one to run his dumba$$ over when he fell off. It's nimrod's like that who give motorcyclists a bad name. One of my co-workers wants to get a bike but his warden won't allow it because one of his son's friends evidently thought jumping culverts on his Sportster was a great idea. Now his warden's labeled bikes of all kinds hazardous and is scared to death of them. Maybe we should petition to institute mandatory common sense tests before cycle licenses are issued....
  18. yeah, I unfortunately found out about the "stealth mode" a little too late. :-P
  19. i've been using Chrome at home for a while now. I agree, it's pretty speedy. however I've found that a lot of things that require you to login, specifically online banking, doesn't want to work so well. also I've gotten the message on some websites that IE or Firefox are required. Also not so big of a fan of the default page that shows my browsing history.. went to buy the wife something and she loaded up chrome and promptly asked what I was doing on a jewelry website. So much for being sneaky.
  20. Tried looking up this MSF.org... and it looks like MSF.org is Medicins sans Frontieres... this don't look like a motorcycle safety course to me...
  21. Just looked up the Stant #13758... that's the Thermostat. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Thermostat---OE-Replacement-Stant_5653266-P_133_R|GRPCOOLAMS____
  22. my 1st gen is doing this too, however it overheats first. strange thing is it's seemingly random. once after 150 mile shakedown run, once after a 75 mile shakedown run, once after 20 miles. let it sit and idle for two hours and nothing. Squidley recommended I replace the radiator cap. I looked into the OEM replacement for it. I wasn't aware that there's one I can pick up at autozone... would you possibly have info on which cap to get? and has anyone here used a non-OEM cap on their 1st gen?
  23. Sorry to hear this news, man. but hopefully now you'll have to chance to move somewhere that riding year round is an option. Good luck and if there's anything I can do, you got my number.
  24. on my '86, when I first turn the key after it's been sitting for a bit, I hear the fuel pump clicking. if I turn it off then on again, after a couple times it stops clicking. check your starter solenoid (under false cover, left side, two posts). should be able to bridge the two posts with a screwdriver and get it to turn the starter. could also try a jumper cable direct to your starter (front left side of the engine as you're sitting on it.) will have to pull off lower cowling you'll see the black wire running down with a rubber cover over the terminal. at least then you can rule out bad starter or bad solenoid. oh, and if you have to pull the starter, might as well go ahead and replace your thermostat as you'll already be right there (right side as you're sitting on it, pull exhaust pipe to get to housing). can get new thermo from NAPA for less than 10 bucks and can order the o-ring and gasket from a yammy stealership for less than 10 bucks as well. just make sure you remember which exhaust came off which side.. don't ask how I know this.
