Be sure to post some pics when you get your trike back. I would love to have one someday. My wife might be more willing to ride with me on three wheels. She's not so comfortable with two. Jeff
-
As I recall, the other tires were shorter, but I'm not sure. I'm really not even sure what I had for lunch today. Oldtimers began setting in a few years ago.... or maybe it was last week. Jeff
-
Hey, that's not fair running two at the same time, but that is a great looking trike. Jeff

Then the fact that his was an Avon and yours was a Dunlop may have something to do with it. Also different road surfaces and conditions can contribute. I don't know, just guessing. My degree is in lumber, not rubber. LOL Jeff
-
Possibly, you have been running a lower psi than pegscraper, thus a wider wear pattern. My m/c tire wear was very similar to his. Jeff

There are three (BF Goodrich, Khumo & Federal) that I know of that different people are running now. I don't think any of us have been running one long enough to have changed brands yet. I know that I haven't so I can't compare the different makes. Personally, I chose the Federal because my research showed that it was the closest (almost identical) in overall height to the original motorcycle tire, thus keeping the speedometer the same. Jeff

They are wired for brake lights only. I had already replaced my rear turn signals with a set of front turn signals that allow them to work as running lights and turn signals. Jeff

The pros are this: A car tire will last many times longer than a motorcycle tire. The original Bridgestone tire that came on my RSTD was worn out at less than 4 thousand miles. My Federal car tire now has twice that milage on it and shows no visible sign of wear other than the rubber strings on the tread has worn off. The cons are this: You have to figure out where to spend the money you will save not buying motorcycle tires. And you have to put up with the consternation of the people who have never tried the car tire but are absolutely sure that it will not work going around curves. (Something about leaning too far over and you will crash and burn. But I think that was just a rumor started by the same guy who was sure Columbus was going to sail over the edge of the world.) There was so much agony and gnashing of teeth with some members every time a post concerning car tires was made that we have been banished to the dark side. But that's OK, it's nice and quite over here. If you decide to cross over, welcome. Jeff

Hey wait, Ray I see that your are in Destin. Never mind contacting gunboat about this, I'll just ride done and explain it to you in person. We had snow here this morning. Destin is a lot better place to discuss this. Jeff

Bigboy, I've been running the Federal for several months now and I also run 40-42 lbs psi. It never made sense to me to "break in" a tire and reduce the psi. I've never broken in a tire on a car or motorcycle. These just handle better with the higher pressure in my opinion. Good luck. Jeff

Sure Bryan. Anything that helps a fellow rider should be shared. This is the link to the bulb. http://www.bulbamerica.com/SILVER-EXT-R-MR16-50w-Colored-in-Red-light-bulb-3264-prod.htm?category_id=451 The lights come complete with wiring, fuse and switch. I obviously didn't use the switch and the only other thing I bought was some shrink tubing to cover the wiring from the housing. If I can help any other way, let me know. Edited to add photo. Jeff

Got them wired up last night and man, are they bright !!!! Shouldn't have any problem being seen when I brake now. I'm happy with them for the less than $25 I have in them. Jeff
-
I'm sure they could be mounted to the license plate holder if it is sturdy enough. As I said, they can be adusted to angle up or down. I plan to angle these slightly up so that they can be seen easily and the 55 watt bulbs are very bright.

I saw a post here the other day on Platinum Burners from Wal Mart for running lights, so I took a look at what they had. I noticed these small chrome lights for $15 a pair and had an idea. I don't really need any additional lighting on the front, but I have been thinking about more visible brake lights. Sure enough I was able to locate red bulbs on the net that are replacements for the white ones. ($2.75 ea) I started trying to figure where to mount them and tried a couple of locations. This is what I ended up with. I tried them turned up and then turned down. I like the down position better. These lights have small brackets that are adjustable up and down, right and left. No drilling or anything. I simply removed the mounting bolt that came with the lights, removed the nut holding the turn signal, added the new light and put the stock bolt back in place. Took less than 5 minutes to put them both on, but I haven't wired them yet. If I like it, great. If not, well, I blown 20 bucks for a lot less before. Jeff

The same thing just happened to my wife's secretary to the tune of over $500. Pay Pal notified her of the upcoming charge. After confirming with her husband that he had not purchased anything thru them she notified them that it was a bogus charge and to not honor it. Three days later Pay Pal charged her account anyhow. When she contacted them trying to find out who the receipient of the money was, they told her that they could not release that information without a court order. She then reported it to the athourities. That was last week. I'll let you know the latest when I talk with her this morning. After seeing all this, I am cancelling my account. Jeff

You can get them at your local Ace hardware. Saw them the other day. They have different styles.

Good one. It's sacrifices like the ones of that family that made this country free and keeps it free. My thanks and appreciation to all who have sacrificed with time, blood or life. Jeff

I don't know if I personally would catergorize Harley as greedy. It just makes sense that if you have something that is in that great of demand, you price it accordingly. That is, raise the price until you meet some resistence either by slower sales or from the competition. Obviously, the competition hasn't been too bad for them. Just look around at the next large gathering of bikes and see what's in the majority. I don't ride one and they really don't appeal to me asthetically, but I do admire their ability to market them.

I..... Never mind...

ediddy, just be glad that you're from Bulldog country. They really make it tough on the folks who wear orange. LOL Jeff

Welcome Gregg. I'm running the Federal ct on an 06 RSTD. I had hoped that I would get better fuel milage with the ct, but I couldn't tell any difference at all at first. What has made a tremendous difference is slowing up. I've gone from 42 mpg running 70 & 75 to over 49 mpg running 55 & 60 a couple of times. 47 1/2 to 48 is common now and I never thought that I would see that kind of milage with this bike. Don't see ever going back to a mt now. Jeff

Drivers Back Rest for Stock seat
Grey Ghost replied to Deacon's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have had the Utopia for a year now on my 06 RSTD and wouldn't leave home without it. Simple to install and if I get tired of one position, I simply reach around behind with my left hand and adjust it while driving down the road. Jeff -
I would think they should offer you a better deal than that. I paid less than 12 for my 06 in October of 07 still in the crate from Lake Hill Motors in Corinth, MS with no set up charge. I know it's new and the warranty is still good for the full term, but it's a two year old bike. Just my 2 cents. Jeff

Texasrices, I have a friend who has a Valkyrie for sale if you are interested. He also has an 03 VTX 1800 for sale. Jeff

I think it looks great. So, out with it. How'd you do it? Jeff
