Hey Taz, I pulled the relay under the battery box and checked it today. Everything is clean and bright, no corrosion anywhere. The fuse looked good and checked good with the meter. The battery still checks at 12.45 volts and the engine still turns over but won't start. It was a good idea to check this. I had to take the small black cover off where the passenger boards bolt on and the big bolt that helps to hold the saddlebag to the frame had backed out completely and was only being held in by the cover. The other bolts were tight and the frame wasn't loose, but sure was surprising to find that. For those who have never checked these bolts, it might be a good idea. Jeff

Did you find the problem? I'm having the same problem right now. My engine will turn over with the freshly charged battery but not start. I have a thread on here, apparently in the wrong place, titled "Stator or what". I would certainly be interest in knowing what you find out. -
Thanks for the link, Monty, but I'm still in the dark here. As I said earlier, I had nothing happening. No lights, nothing. My meter showed 5 volts on the new battery so I took it out and had the auto parts store check it. It showed the same so they put a full charge on it and it was showing 12.83 volts. I replaced it in the bike and everything lit up immediately. It almost cranked once but then would do nothing but turn over. It's turning plenty fast enough to crank, but no dice. Obviously not getting fire. Any suggestions where to go from here?

Thanks for the info, guys. I've never done anything but ride this bike so I guess that I need to buy some meters to check voltage and etc. Any suggestions on what and where to buy them? Also, where do I find the detailed "how to" instructions that have been posted over the years? I'm having a little trouble navigating the forum. It's been quite a while since I've been on here and I may have just "unthanked" someone. If so, sorry.

Quick recap. I ride a 2006 Tour Deluxe with 41,000 plus miles on it. Last September while in Virginia I pulled in to a restaurant, shut the engine off and noticed the neutral light was dim. Bike wouldn't start so to make a longer story short, I replaced the battery and everything was fine. I had my phone and GPS running and just assumed that I had been pulling more than the stator was putting out and had drained the battery. No problems since. Fast forward to this past Friday. Had ridden from west Alabama to North Carolina, put 4-500 miles on in and around the mountains and pulled over for a stop. The engine went dead as I was stopping. No juice, very dim lights. Replaced the 9 month old battery, fired it up and ran fine for 50-60 miles. Was coming back across 74 to Robbinsville when it began cutting out some and the o/d light would flicker from bright to dim. Just west of Whittier, NC on level road it completely shut off and would do nothing. The battery was still charged so that I was able to keep my phone usuable, but my wife had to drive 6-7 hours to trailer my bike and my bruised ego home. Now I'm no electrical genius. I can wire lights and change batteries but I'm no meter man. I've spent the morning reading about stators and regulator/rectifiers and such but need some practical advice and insight. Can anybody offer any. Thanks, Jeff

You guys are negating the reason for riding the bike in the first place. It's for RELAXATION and ENJOYMENT. You can't enjoy the ride if your'e worrying about something that may never happen, which is exactly what is worried about most; things that never happen. Put the freaking car tire on and enjoy the ride!!!!!!!!! Life is short. Jeff

I'm not sure which of the Silver Stars I bought a couple of weeks ago, but in the interest of knowing just how much brighter it would be I took a photo from the drivers seat at night before and after changing the bulb........absolutely zero difference in side by side comparison. So much for $22. Come to think of it, it was kind of stupid on my part to switch. I've never been able to run faster than the stock light, anyway. Jeff -

I've been running the Kumho for well over a year now and I like it. I run 42 psi (cold) because that is where the ride seems best to me. Mid to high 30's psi seems a little wiggly, but I think it's mostly a personal decision. I wouldn't want to go any higher cold with the road temperatures being so high this time of year. I also struggled with the decision as to which tire to buy and even visited different stores to look and feel the different ones before making a decision. I personally thought the Kumho had the most flexible sidewalls, but I bought it because it is the same overall height as the OEM m/c tire and I also liked the tread pattern better. After you ride it for a while and get all the snakes out of your head, I don't think you will know the difference. I rode to north Arkansas on a fly fishing trip in June and never even thought about being on a car tire. Good luck and enjoy. Jeff

Nate, Been there, done that myself. It's not easy and it won't be over quickly because there will be lousy days and there will be better days. I won't tell you that the kids are #1 because I can tell that you already know the priorities. I will tell you to not forget to take care of yourself mentally and don't beat yourself up by playing the "what ifs" over and over in your head. There is always enough guilt to go around, so don't try to carry all of it yourself. Sometimes it helps to talk with a friend and sometimes it helps to talk with total stranger. Since I fall into that last category, if you need to talk, my cell is 205-412-3300 and it's on 24 / 7. I see that you belive in prayer, so remember, the Lord will give you the peace that only He has. Chaci is right. I know that the Baron 1 1/2" risers will not fit on 06 RSTD because I bought a set and tried it. Ended up selling them to a Venture rider. Jeff -
The day I picked up my 06 RSTD at the dealer, I went for a ride with a group of bikers. Looking over my new ride at lunch, I noticed a cut in the passenger backrest and headed back to the dealer for replacement. I came back into town through an area I was unfamiliar with and got lost in a residential area. After stopping at a stop sign, I turned right, went several yards and saw blue lights in my mirrors. The policeman was nice, but asked me if I had been drinking because I pulled out directly in front of him. He saw that I was going to pull out in front of him and he was prepared to stop. I have absolutely no idea how I missed seeing a police car, but he could have killed me and these posts might be about him. Accidents do happen and it isn't always the fault of the driver in the car. When I got home a little while ago, I was relieved to see that UPS had delivered my order. It had shipped direct from Kuryakyn. However; I had called another phone # that I found for Milwaukee Leather Outlet this afternoon and got an answering machine with a message to leave a # and they would call me back. I left two separate messages and they never returned my call. To be honest about this whole thing, I did receive exactly what I had ordered but I am very disappointed about how it was handled. They could have at least answered an email with a tracking # to ease a person's mind. Communication is good. Silence gives you an uneasy feeling. Thank you all for your support and help. Jeff

I placed an order with http://www.milwaukeeleatheroutlet.com for a Kuryakyn touring bag on March 27. I received an automated email on April 1 from shane@californialeatherwear.com saying that my order had shipped, but it did not give a shipping date or a tracking #. After four email request for a shipping date and a tracking #, I have heard zero, nada, zilch and I am beginning to wonder if I have been taken. Maybe the reason they sold this item at such a good price with free shipping is that they don't actually ship. Let's see....... yep, that's 100% profit. Anyone had any experience with this company? Jeff
