I didn't mean to get your dander up. I think most everyone on here is still running the first ct that they have put on. I know that I am so I don't have any experience with any tire other than the Federal 165/80R15. This tire has a higher profile but it is the closest to the original mc tire, exactly the same as I measured it. It's the only one they make in that size so I guess that means it's also the highest quality one they make. I paid $55 for the tire at a dealer in Mississippi and $20 to get it mounted here where I live. It is rated as a 40k mile tire on an auto. The photos on the site flb_78 gave you will show the difference in tread design, and yes, like you, I suppose it could have some effect on performance, but again I haven't tried any other. You can read the post by the different owners and guess as well as any of us. It's like learning to ride your first bike. You can read all you want, but your'e going to have to get on it to see if you like it.

I think all of your questions can be answered by reading the "Darkside" post. There are photos as well. As far as I know, those of us running car tires are using two or three different makes. The biggest difference as I see it is in the overall height of the tire. The higher the profile or aspect ratio, the more flexible the sidewall. I'm running a 165-80/15 and I am tickled to death with it. You simply have to compare the notes and decide which you think will be best for you. After reading the posts, if you still have questions, I will be glad to tell you my experience and what I know, though I'm no expert by any stretch. Good luck. Jeff

Don, we don't know each other but that doesn't matter. That's great news. I've just had a good friend diagnosed with cancer and he starts treatment this week. I'll be sure to remember you when I pray for him tonight. Jeff

Is that taking a gamble with the insurance?...Has ANYONE darksider or not considered this? I've considered it many times, but not as many as I've considered the possibility of getting hit by a car or having any other kind of accident on the bike. But I still get on it. As far as the original post in this thread, heck, I wasn't comfortable for a lot longer than 350 miles on the first motorcycle tires I was on. Maybe I can remember that better than some others since I've only been riding three years. I'm still learning about two wheels and I hope I continue to learn as long as I ride. As I have posted elsewhere, it did take me a little while to get used to the ct, but 90% of that was mental, since I had been told to expect to crash and burn in the first curve that I came to. I was so scared that I rode for 1,000 miles in a straight line until I was forced to make that dreaded U turn and come back home. LOL Anyhow, now that I have approx. 2,000 miles on the tire, I really like it. I think that it is more a matter of taste and feel just like choosing the make or model of bike you ride. When my best riding buddy first put a ct on his Honda VTX 1800, I tried as hard as I possibly could to get him to change, but he wouldn't do it. I don't know why he is so stubborn and continues to ride that Honda. Seriously, I would never try to influence anyone to change to a car tire if they didn't want to. While I personally think that you are at least as safe on a ct as you are on a mt whether on a wet road or dry one, this is a decision everyone should make for themselves. Whatever we ride, let's ride together safe and enjoy life. Jeff

Somewhere near the end of all the stamped message on the side of the muffler, it should say "cat" or catalytic. Mine did. If you drill the rear cones out with a hole saw all the inside pipes should slide right out. Cut the pipes off 1-2 inches on the "inside" side of the cones, weld them back in place. Leave the mesh wire and insulation in place. Then it won't matter if one had a cat in it and they sound great. That's the way it worked on the 06 set I have, anyway. Jeff

06 roadking exhaust catalyic converter?
Grey Ghost replied to Brian D.'s topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My understaning is that 05 and newer have a cat in one muffler and should not be run stock on our bikes as it would cause uneven pressure on the engine. I have a set of 06 that I modified as follows. Take a hole saw that is somewhat larger than the small outlet pipe on the rear of the mufflers and saw through the rear cones. The inside pipes will then slide out easily. The one with the cat will be of a different configuration than the other, but they will both slide out without any trouble. When they are removed, you will see a cylinder of mesh wire holding insulation against the outer walls of each muffler. Leave these in place. Cut the small pipes off the cones 1-2 inches from the cones and weld the cones back in place. These are a little louder than the stock Harley mufflers, but they aren't too loud. I have a set of stocks, but these are my favorites. They sound like a 57 Chevy with glasspacks on. They will talk if you crank on it. Good luck. Jeff -
Next time, pour the concrete mix in dry and tamp it down. In two days it will have absorbed moisture from the ground and will be harder than a skillet handle. This also allows you to nail or screw stringers and boards immediately and will not cause the concrete to crack at the corners of the post like it will if it hasn't had time to cure properly. I have built several fences and decks over the years and have never had this method to fail.

I guess you realize that you just opened another can of worms, don't you? Some of these guys knew that the car tire would attract all kinds of nails, screws and other flat causing paraphenalia. And that plug, well I guess you know that is going to cause blow out causing you to cross the median, hit a tanker truck head on, causing an explosion that is going to crispy fry two vans full of old people from the home who were on an outing just to enjoy themselves. That should get things started.

flb_78, will you please post what you find about the 175/55 or 65? I will be replacing my rear tire soon and I have been looking at the car tire option. That's how I found this forum in the first place. Thanks, Jeff

I have a local dealer who ordered a Radial on Friday for me to look at. I left the note on my desk and I don't remember for sure the size. I think it is wider that what y'all are using but according to him I don't have to take it if I don't think it will work. I also talked with a company in Tennesse who sells tires for old vintage cars and motorcycles. He is the one who had asked me for the width of the wheel. I am supposed to call him back Monday or Tuesday with that info and he will try to match it up with a tire that should work. Jeff
