  1. So now that you got the popping to stop, it's time to start the bike and then remove the plug wire to see if it make a difference in the running. You may have a bad plug, but I'm guessing that you have a partial plugged idle circuit and that you'll notice a difference when you remove the plug wire. I use a long handled needle nose pliers to remove the plug wire, otherwise I have a shocking experience.
  2. Is the head stripped or the threads?
  3. I've just been very quiet, didn't even send Eileen an email,,, but now I'm getting tempted,,, calling us clowns,, you have a lot of nerve.
  4. When you replaced the vacuum hose did you reinsert the restricter that was in the old one? Also, you might want to start your sync from scratch. For that you need to make sure that #1, the left front cylinder (as you sit on the bike) is your lead cylinder, so that is the one adjusted with the idle screw, then the one behind it is adjusted accordingly to it. Same on the right side and then the right side to the left side. Often times things get mixed up, and one tends to have the left rear cylinder closed right off and then can't get things synced up, it almost works, but not quite. So look inside the left front carb, and watch the butterfly down inside as you turn on the idle screw, make sure it's open, not much, but it needs to be open. Then with the left side sync screw, do the same for the rear carb. Now start the bike and sync the left side, but don't turn down the idle just yet. Make sure they are both drawing the same before you adjust the idle. Then go to the right side. Sync the rear with the front and then the front to the left side front. Hope I got it right.
  5. Shouldn't you be doing a continuity test across those 3 wires to see if there's a short in the stator? 1&3,,,, 3&2,,,,,1&2 type thing???? But them what do I know,,, I don't even change tires.
  6. Somebody has to cover for 'im!
  7. Another 2 things to help with getting it up,,,,,, grease the center stand pivot points and if you can, air up the rear shock to full. Then put down the CS, right foot on the CS handle, grip the bike to balance it, rock it side to side to have it set on both legs, and then give it a good shove with your foot,,, your right foot!
  8. I am not American, although I respect and love you guys, but when you start fooling with the National Anthem then I have a problem, not a real serious problem, just a little problem. The Star Spangled Banner is a song written with particular words and music and so is identified as such. The same goes for our Canadian Anthem or any other for that matter. Sing it how you will, respectful, with gusto, happy, or sad, but leave it intact. If we can change the music, then why not adjust the words, and if we can change it a little today, what's stopping us from making more changes tomorrow. Did these boys put on a good display, yes I really enjoyed the input, but they weren't singing the National Anthem the way I know it,,,,, wonder which country they were signing for. No need to get all tied up over my comments, it's just the way it's in my heart, and I just said it.
  9. I just knew I'd get somebody confused on that one,,, didn't think it would be Dan though, I thought it would have been some young feller.
  10. Praying for you two, blessing that all may go well.
  11. I wouldn't be running, I'd be riding a first gen!!!!! and I'd being doing 90 before I could get it out of 1st gear.

Wishin and prayin for Art, thanks for keeping up with him,,,, that's what makes a friendship.
  13. Put them up on ebay,,,,, carefully used, not even used by an old lady, never let me down, just like they used to make, they don't make them like this, all worn in, break resistant, water proof,,,,, and the list can go on.
  14. Just so you know, the same oil is used for the motor, clutch and transmission. Drain one, you've drained them all. Now there is a screw at the bottom of the middle gear cover that lets out oil if removed so there is a wee bit left in the transmission when you do an oil change, but not enough to worry about.
  15. There's a small screw hidden way back in this hole, that is your air mixture screw. It might have a brass plug to keep you from playing with it, so you'll have to drill a small hole in the plug, then insert a screw to be able to remove it. Once you can get at it, then start the bike and turn the screw out a turn or two. If that helps your problem you can either leave it and be happy, or you can remove it and clean inside there with some carb cleaner. To remove the screw is tricky, turn it until it is free from the threads and then suck it out with a turkey baster or some such tool. There are 3 parts and you'll need them all for reassembly. The screw, which has a very fine needle on the end, a spring seated on the screw and a rubber coated washer on top of the spring (sits between the spring and the engine). Be careful to find the washer and put it back in. Once done cleaning, put the spring and the washer back on the needle valve (screw) and turn it back into place. DO NOT turn in tight, only very carefully until it comes to a stop, don't worry, if you are careful you'll feel the stop. Now turn it back out 2.5 turns and try the engine again. You may need to adjust the screw some what, first to get the cylinder to fire, and then to get it to run as best as possible. This is all done by ear and feel, so enjoy.
  16. Hey, this poor guy is trying to come up with a design for a mudflap,,, anybody got any ideas??? obviously maybe not, but hey, we can try again.
  17. I think Brantford Motorcycle gets after market parts for the clutch, want me to check for you? http://www.barnettclutches.com/locator/international.aspx?country=canada
  18. That is starting to look good, bet now that you've got back at it, you want to see it get done,,, huh!
  19. Did you try to adjust the idle mixture screw on that cylinder?
  20. What??? you mean you really have them all firing now, or is it just that you think they are?
  21. Maybe a link on this thread would be helpful as well.
  22. The clear coat went bad, all started to go hazy and break up, so I did the front forks again with a different clear coat and it went funny as well, so that's why I went the Classic Cloth route,,,, also have tried Mothers, Autosol and a host of other potions, none worked as well as CC. They all seemed to clean to some extent, but none had staying power so to speak.
  23. I would start with cleaning the switch, it can get dirty and foul up, but I can't see that has anything to do with the running light part, that is a different circuit. Check your bulbs to make sure they are in right and are clean. You may also have a ground problem, so while you have it apart run a wire from the ground, outside portion of the socket, to the battery and see if it then works.
  24. We did, that's why he thinks it was worth 2 bits, that's 2 quarters or 50 cents, and I think he's stretching that a fair bit, maybe even more more than one fair bit, getting right into the second bit, which may not be so fair, or not fair at all,,, but then he used to live close to Swifty, who has things in his living room and that might have something to do with it,,, or may not, depends on how you look at it I suppose.
  25. Well I sure hope you have this one right, don't want to make him any older than he is already. So. if she's right,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Dan, wishing many more healthy ones for ya. Take the day off and enjoy getting aged.
